Fusion-Features And Visual-Dictionary Image Recognition Methods For Apple Classification In Smart Manufacturing, Ahsiah Ismail
Fusion-Features And Visual-Dictionary Image Recognition Methods For Apple Classification In Smart Manufacturing, Ahsiah Ismail
Student Works (2020-2029)
Smart manufacturing enables an efficient manufacturing process to optimize production. The optimization is performed through data analytics that requires reliable and informative data as input. Therefore, in this research, two image recognition feature extraction methods namely Curvelet Wavelet-Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (CWGLCM) and Fuzzy-Spatial Pyramid Matching (F-SPM) are proposed to provide reliable inputs for vision-based apple classification in smart manufacturing. Feature extraction is one of the major steps that could influent the efficiency of the manufacturing process. The CW-GLCM method is a feature extraction of fusion-features with Decision Tree classifier, while the F-SPM method uses a visual-dictionary based method to …
Evaluation Of A Bulge Reduction Technology For Corrugated Fiberboard Containers Under Static Compression, Daan Peleman, Jay Singh, Koushik Saha, S. Roy
Evaluation Of A Bulge Reduction Technology For Corrugated Fiberboard Containers Under Static Compression, Daan Peleman, Jay Singh, Koushik Saha, S. Roy
Journal of Applied Packaging Research
This research examines the effect of top-to-bottom static compression load on the bulge of RSC containers. The study compares a control regular slotted container (RSC) constructed with corrugated fiberboard to tape-reinforced designs. The bulge reduction, achieved using various tape placements and conditioning environments, were measured. Currently, no research on the effect of reinforcement tape towards reduction in the out-of-plane displacement (bulging) of the corrugated fiberboard panels has been undertaken. Samples related to four different container designs, varying by presence, quantity and the position of the reinforcement tape on the vertical panels, were tested and analyzed. The study involved the use …

Sports Analytics: Putting The Fun Back Into Analytics, Walt Degrange
Operations Management Presentations
With the recent success of sports teams heavily using analytics (Dodgers, Patriots, Capitals, Warriors, Leicester City F.C.), does this mean that analytics has gained a foothold in the sports world? I use a k-means clustering model to determine if performance since 2015 in the four major US sports can support this question. And is there a career path that a high school student can use to become a sports analytics professional? This presentation attempts to answer that question by exploring all the areas of the application of analytics in sports. The final point the brief makes is that by using …
Civilian Pepper Spray For Self Defense: Understanding User Perception And Impact Of Design On User Performance, David Strybel, Anil R. Kumar
Civilian Pepper Spray For Self Defense: Understanding User Perception And Impact Of Design On User Performance, David Strybel, Anil R. Kumar
Faculty Publications
Pepper spray is widely used in the US, and is marketed as an effective self-defense device. While pepper spray can be useful in deterring an attacker, many pepper spray owners do not have any experience using it. There is a dearth of published studies that focus on civilian pepper-spray use, not to mention first time pepper-spray users. A study to analyze pepper-spray designs with first-time users, to see how the design, specifically the safety mechanism, affects response time and overall performance would be helpful. The study was conducted in 2 parts – a survey to understand user perception, and a …

Change Management: Increasing The Odds Of Adoption, Travis Mcneal
Operations Management Presentations
With rapid changes happening all around, organizations are finding themselves in positions where they need their workforce to adapt to new ways of working (technology, structural, process). Organizations develop strategies, programs and projects intended to address these changes. Unfortunately, history is littered with strategies and programs that fail to live deliver on expected results. This has led to the recent rise and proliferation of Change Management as a practice and skill set. Often times, however, Change Management theory is given preeminence over practicality. This webinar will explore practical and actionable ways you can take to immediately increase the odds …

3d Printing For Solving Part Obscolescence, Ayman G. Alqarni
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this research was to highlight the issue of parts obsolescence and to highlight the possibility of using alternative methods to overcome parts shortage. Specifically, this thesis sought to answer the research question: is the three-dimensional printing technology (3D) an applicable approach to overcome part obsolescence. The research question was answered through data research and survey analysis. Notwithstanding, the diminished manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS) management and other existing approaches, such as forecasting, contracting, and reverse engineering (RE), were discussed briefly in the literature review and profoundly in chapter IV to differentiate among applicable existing solutions toward …

Identification Of Transition Matrix Of Controlled Objects Under Parametric Uncertainty Condition, Uktam Farkhodovich Mamirov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
The questions of formation and construction of algorithms for identification of elements of the transition matrix of controlled objects in conditions of parametric uncertainty are considered. To identify elements of the transition matrix, we suggest using a custom model based on the type of Kalman filtration equations. Algorithms for stable calculation of a pseudo-inverse matrix using matrix decomposition are analyzed. Regular algorithms for solving argumentative problems of minimization of the identification quality criterion are given. These algorithms allow us to regularize the problem of adaptive identification of the transition matrix of an object based on regular methods for minimizing functionals …

Structural – Parametric Analysis And Synthesis Of Glass Furnace Condition Observer, Utkir Uktam O‘G‘Li Kholmanov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
A modified Kalman filter of the glass cooking process is synthesized, taking into account perturbations in the form of a sequence of colored noises. The possibility of expanding this filter by noise filters to improve functioning in the presence of low-frequency disturbances is studied and a corresponding estimation scheme with additional noise filters is proposed. The results of the simulation allow us to assume that low-frequency disturbances in the glass furnace act at the input and affect the state of the control object.

University Startup Accelerators: Startup Launchpads Or Vehicles For Entrepreneurial Learning?, Lynn E. Metcalf, Thomas M. Katona, Jonathan L. York
Industrial Technology and Packaging
Over the past decade, universities have invested heavily in startup accelerator programs; however, their role in the university entrepreneurial ecosystem is ambiguous. Are university startup accelerators intended to educate or are they created to facilitate business starts and to contribute to regional economic development? In contrast, most private-sector startup accelerators serve a consistent and differentiated role in the entrepreneurial ecosystem—they provide programming and resources to startups to increase the probability of a return on investment. Understanding the role of university startup accelerators is an important precursor to evaluating their impact and whether or not the return is worth the considerable …

Procedure Formalization For Constructing An Adaptive Control System With A Reference Model Based On The Lyapunov Function, Tulkin Vafoqulovich Botirov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
Discusses the formalization of the procedure for constructing an adaptive control system with a reference model based on the Lyapunov function. It is shown that the asymptotic stability of the extended system of differential equations guarantees accurate tracking of the desired output signal of the model. At the same time, the expediency of analyzing the asymptotic stability of the system in extended space using the Lyapunov function is shown. The above algorithms help to stabilize the computational matrix inversion procedure and thereby increase the accuracy of estimating the adjustable parameter in an adaptive control system.

Modeling the structure of a distributed network can be based on the architecture of an associative infocommunication network, which displays the processes and mechanisms of interaction of components in the corresponding nodes of the structure. It is shown that for the description and functional representation of a distributed network, it is appropriate to apply decomposition for the field of software engineering, the purpose of which is to create theories that interact with each other according to well-defined rules. A conceptual representation of the distributed space behavior model is given. The paper discusses the modeling of the evolutionary search.
