The generation of atmospheric pressure nonequilibrium plasma using electrical discharges is an active area of research due to its significance in a wide spectrum of applications including medicine, combustion, and manufacturing. In our attempt to create a helium plasma jet in a pin-plane discharge with a constant current source, we observed self-pulsating behavior. We present the results of the electrical, optical, and spectroscopic measurements carried out to characterize the discharge. The duration of the discharge is a few tens of nanoseconds, and the repetition rate is in the few tens of kHz. The effect of the gap distance and gas …

Process Optimization And Quality Control In Manufacturing Of Frp Composites By Vartm, Mohamed Emadeldin Omar Abdelhadi

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Railroad tank cars, being one of the most used means of transportation of hazardous material across the country, have not been structurally upgraded for a long time. Thus, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) agency, released a rule for safer transportation of highly hazardous and flammable liquids by railroad to enhance the design specifications of both the new and existing tank cars in May 2015. A multifunctional composite jacket is proposed as a new material to structurally enhance the railroad tank cars to withstand any accidents that could happen en route. …

Processing, Characterization And Performance Of Ceramic Liners For Hydrogen Gas Turbine Engines, Fahim Faysal

Graduate Studies Theses and Dissertations 2026

Advanced ceramics and ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are known for their endurance at high temperatures. This study investigated the fabrication and testing of two material systems: silicon carbide nitride (SiCN) reinforced with yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) fiber manufactured through polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP), and 3D-printed alumina (Al₂O₃) ceramics. The CMC thermal stability at high temperatures was explored through a hydrogen torch test. The CMC surface could withstand a temperature of 1,400°C for 10 minutes during the torch test. Furthermore, the internal surface of a hydrogen combustion chamber was coated with CMC to assess its applicability as a protective barrier against …
