Comparison Of Ignition Delays And Liquid Penetrations Of Jp-8, Synthetic Jp-8, And A Jp-8 Surrogate Under Diesel Engine Conditions, Kyle Yeakle
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
The U.S. Army and many NATO affiliates have adopted a ‘one fuel forward fuel policy’ (OFF). The goal of the OFF policy is reducing the logistics and cost involved with providing fuel for military vehicles. With this policy, the logical choice fuel is military grade jet petroleum, JP-8, because of the fuel constraints of turbo-jet engines. This requirement has made it necessary to run military compression ignited engines on JP-8. To reduce the Army’s reliance on petroleum based fuels an alternative fuel, synthetic JP-8, derived from coal and made in the Fischer-Tropsch production method is allowed to be blended up …
Design, Fabrication And Analysis Of An Auxiliary Power Unit On A Heavy-Duty Truck To Power The Hvac Systems Of The Truck During Driver Off-Duty Conditions, Rohan Milind Kalurkar
Design, Fabrication And Analysis Of An Auxiliary Power Unit On A Heavy-Duty Truck To Power The Hvac Systems Of The Truck During Driver Off-Duty Conditions, Rohan Milind Kalurkar
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Currently, one of the biggest challenges the world is facing is energy insufficiency. One of the contributors to energy consumption in United States are the idling semi-trailer trucks. In May 2001, President Bush issued The National Energy Policy in which he directed The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) to reduce the idling of trucks. This was done in order to reduce energy consumption by lowering fuel consumption and emissions coming out of semi-trailer trucks in the United States of America.
This project deals with the efforts of installing an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) as a device …
Experimental Study, Modelling And Controller Design For An Rcci Engine, Naga Nithin Teja Kondipati
Experimental Study, Modelling And Controller Design For An Rcci Engine, Naga Nithin Teja Kondipati
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Low Temperature Combustion (LTC) has got widespread attention over the past two decades in the field of Automotive Research and Development due to it’s potential for achieving higher efficiencies with near-zero engine out NOx and soot emissions. Among all the LTC strategies Reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) has shown the most promising results due to it’s precise control over combustion phasing and heat release rate. However, RCCI being a dual-fuel stratified combustion, precise control over the injection timing of direct injected fuel and in-cylinder fuel reactivity of the mixture needs to be controlled effectively in order to achieve gross indicated …
Design And Fabrication Of A Suspension Rig, Abhijith Geo Philip
Design And Fabrication Of A Suspension Rig, Abhijith Geo Philip
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Owing to its placement under the vehicle body, the suspension system is one of the parts of the vehicle which are difficult to comprehend completely, albeit being a vital component. For demonstrating the working of a suspension system, a physical model in which one can actually see the movement of all the components would be a great tool. A Mustang II independent front suspension system was purchased from Heidts Engineering Performance and a rig that can emulate some of the real world situations of vehicle suspension action was designed and fabricated. All the components are accessible and conditions like bounce, …
Evaluation Of Angular Distribution Of Incident Field At The Transmission Loss Window In Michigan Tech’S Reverberant Chamber, Abhishek Thyagarajan
Evaluation Of Angular Distribution Of Incident Field At The Transmission Loss Window In Michigan Tech’S Reverberant Chamber, Abhishek Thyagarajan
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Transmission Loss prediction accuracy is highly dependent on a good understanding of the angular distribution of incident field on the panel. Traditionally, the incident field has been assumed to be either completely random (equal probability of incidence at all angles from 0° - 90°) or field incidence (where the field is assumed to be completely diffuse between 0° - 78°). Studies1-3 have shown that these models are not completely representative of the incident field. This incident field is studied in the Michigan Tech Transmission Loss suite using two different methods in this study; beamforming and acoustic intensity. The beamforming method …
Design Of A Mobile Underwater Charging System, Brian R. Page
Design Of A Mobile Underwater Charging System, Brian R. Page
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are extremely capable vehicles for numerous ocean related missions. AUVs are energy limited, resulting in short mission endurance on the scale of hours to days. Underwater Gliders (UGs) are able to operate on the order of months to years by using nontraditional propulsion methods. UGs, however, are unable to perform missions requiring high speed or direct forward motion due to the nature of their buoyancy driven motion. This work reviews the current state of the art in recharging AUVs and offers an underwater recharging network concept at a significantly reduced cost to traditional methods. The solution …
Competition Vehicle Based Intake Manifold Design, Joshua N. Matiash
Competition Vehicle Based Intake Manifold Design, Joshua N. Matiash
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
A competitive vehicle in Formula SAE needs to be easy for unskilled drivers to extract the maximum performance from. This requires a predictable and manageable torque curve. This report details the development of an intake manifold for a Formula SAE car from a vehicle-based approach to produce this manageable and predictable torque. The current vehicle was instrumented and driven on a representative track to determine the usage of available torque. Based on these findings an ideal torque curve was chosen that favored increased torque at upper engine speed ranges and decreased torque at lower engine speed ranges. A 1-D engine …
Comparative Analysis Of Locally Available Materials For Treadle Pump Seals In Senegal, West Africa, Brennan Tymrak
Comparative Analysis Of Locally Available Materials For Treadle Pump Seals In Senegal, West Africa, Brennan Tymrak
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
For rural farmers in Senegal, West Africa, pulling water for irrigation can be a laborious but necessary task during the dry season to earn income from vegetable gardening. Traditional water pulling methods are inexpensive but require great physical effort, while modern machines decrease the labor burden but at a high financial cost. This study looked at an intermediate water pulling technology, the treadle pump, and how it could be improved to become more desirable for use in agricultural irrigation. A treadle pump was built and tested during field work in a rural Senegalese village. Observations from field testing prompted a …
