Nucleation And Crystal Growth Of Pt Electrodeposition On Poly Crystal Au Microdisc Electrode, Zhi-Yong Tao, Pei-Fang Liu

Based on the Fleischmann's model of nucleation and crystal growth for electrodeposition combined with the Barradas-Bosco's adsorption-nucleation model for electrochemical phase formation, the chronoamperometry was well fitted for Pt deposition on polycrystalline Au micro disc electrodes (30 μm in diameter) in different H2PtCl6 concentrations at different over-potentials. The initial stage of Pt deposition in dilute H2PtClcould be interpreted by the model of H2PtCl6 adsorption combined with instantaneous nucleation and two-dimensional cylindrical growth. The rate constant of the two-dimensional growth increased linearly with overpotential. Then the deposit grew layer by layer …

Electrochemical Reduction Of Nitrobenzene On The Wc Electrode In Acidic Solution, Chun-An Ma, You-Qun Chu, Ying-Hong Zhu, Zhi-Hua Xu

Journal of Electrochemistry

The tungsten carbide (WC) electrode was constructed by using polyterafluoroethylene as binder. The electrochemical behavior of nitrobenzene on the WC electrode in acidic solution was investigated by cyclic voltammetry, linear scan method and chronoamperometry. Experimental results showed that WC electrode had good activity for the electrochemical reduction of nitrobenzene, and the electrode process was controlled by diffusion and electrochemical stepssimultaneously. The apparent active energy of the electrode process is 23.7kJ⋅mol-1, while the active energy of the electrochemicalstep is 10.91kJ⋅mol-1.

Preparation And Electrochemical Performance Of New Composite Seperators For Lithium-Ion Batteries, Hu Cheng, Hong-Yan Du, Yong Yang

New composite seperators for lithium ion batteries were prepared by coating PEO mixed with nanosize SiO2 onto microporous polypropylene(PP) seperators. Highly conductive electrolytes were prepared by soaking them in an electrolyte solution. With these composite separators, the lithium ion cell consisting of Li anode and LiNi0.8Co0.2O2 cathode were assembled. The high initial discharge capacity and good capacity retention were obtained through the cell.

The active material of secondary alkaline zinc electrode with barium additives was prepared by a chemical reaction method and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrochemical performance of various pasted Zn electrodes was investigated by cyclic voltammetry, charge/discharge method and electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) technology. The addition of barium can synthesize a compound barium zincate with the molecular structure of BaZn(OH)4·xH2O and improve the discharge performance. The electrocatalyst, Pt/MoO3 synthesized by solid state reaction, was used for the oxidation of methanol in direct methanol fuel cells. The X-Ray diffraction and cyclic voltammetry were employed to investigate the performance of the material. It was shown that the typical diffraction peaks for Pt appeared in XRD. And a good electrocatalysis for methanol oxidation was observed. The peak potential of the methanol oxidation appeared at ca. 0.63V(vs.SCE) and the peak current density for the oxidation was 78.1 mA⋅cm-2.

TiO2(B) Nanobelts were synthesized by using the "Soft chemical"method. The products were characterized by means of transmission electron microscope(TEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), Raman spectrum and energy dispersive spectrum(EDS). Galvanostatic charging and discharging tests showed that lithium-ion intercalation/deintercalation occurred reversibly in the TiO2(B) nanobelts electrode, and a high capacity (265 mAh·g-1) can be obtained. The results suggested that TiO2(B) Nanobelts might be a promising negative electrode material of second Lithium battery.

This paper describes the methanol permeability characterization of SPEEK membranes and their feasibility for DMFC application. The SPEEK membranes showed a significant lower methanol permeation than Nafion 115 determined from voltammetric methods. An increase in open circuit voltage was found in the performance of SPEEK membranes in DMFC. The power density of the cell using SPEEK membrane was considerably poorer than that of Nafion 115. If modified properly, the SPEEK membranes can be chosen for DMFC application based on this study.

Tape cast method was applied to prepare green sheets of Ni/YSZ anode supported YSZ thin film. After isostatic pressure treatment and cosintering, the YSZ film on the Ni/YSZ anode was gas-tight dense, and 15~30 μm thick. The area of the composite film was over 100 cm2. A Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9 (CSO) interlayer was sintered on to the YSZ electrolyte film to protect La0.6Sr0.4CoO(LSCO) cathode from reaction with YSZ at high temperatures. Titanium oxide films have photo-electrochemical anticorrosion effect. We investigated the TiO2 films prepared by anodization method to protect for 45# carbon steel in man-made seawater(3%NaCl). Various parameters, including voltages, electrolytes nature and concentration of electrolyte were examined. The polarization curves and of TiO2 and coupling photo-current curve between TiO2 film and 45#  carbon steel were measured.

Investigation of the resident site and the adsorption phase structure of thiolates is of fundamental importance for understanding the formation of self-assembled organic monolayers on metal substrate surfaces. In the present study, we have investigated adsorption of methanethiol, CH3SH, on the ferromagnetic Co (0001) surface using density functional theory calculations.We find that the dissociative adsorption of CH3SH forming an adsorbed methylthiolate (CH3S) and an adsorbed H atom is energetically favorable, and that the CH3S molecule adsorbed at the threefold fcc and hcp hollow sites is most stable. Ice patterns generated by rapid freeze prototyping or a molding process can be used to make ceramic investment molds for metal castings. Due to the use of ice, the ceramic slurries must be poured around the pattern and cured at sub-freezing temperatures. Four types of laboratory tests have been performed. Specimens were attained from four lithophysal zones of the welded Topopah Spring Tuff unit at Yucca Mountain, Nevada: upper lithophysal, middle nonlithophysal, lower lithophysal and lower nonlithophysal zones. Two types of tests are conducted to study time-dependent behavior: constant strain rate and creep tests. Sixty five specimens from the middle nonlithophysal zone were tested at six strain rates: 10 , 10 , 10 , 10 , 10 , and 10 . Test durations range from 2 seconds to 7 days. This investigation is focused on the evaluation of stress corrosion cracking (SCC), hydrogen embrittlement (HE) and localized corrosion susceptibility of Alloy HT -9 in neutral and acidic solutions at 30, 60 and 90°C. Constant-load and slow-strain-rate (SSR) testing techniques were used to evaluate the SCC and HE behavior of this alloy by using smooth and notched tensile specimens. Hydrogen effect on the cracking behavior was evaluated by applying cathodic (negative) potential to the test specimens. This investigation is focused on the evaluation of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and localized corrosion behavior of Type 422 stainless steel in aqueous environments at ambient and elevated temperature. The results of constant load SCC testing using smooth specimens showed no failure in the neutral solution but a threshold stress of 97 ksi was observed in the 90°C acidic environment. SCC testing by the slow-strain-rate test method indicate that the time-to-failure, true failure stress and ductility parameters were gradually reduced with increasing temperature, showing more pronounced effect in the acidic solution. The electrical resistance of a constrained domain wall in a nanojunction is investigated using micromagnetic modeling and ballistic conductance calculations. The nanojunction represents two ferromagnetic electrodes connected by a ferromagnetic wire of 10 nm in length and of a few nanometers in cross section. We find that the anisotropy of the electrodes favors a localization of the domain wall within the constriction (wire) revealing a positive domain-wall resistance. An applied magnetic field moves the domain wall toward one of the electrodes and reduces its width. This compression of the domain wall leads to a sizeable enhancement of the domain-wall resistance.

As indicated in the original proposal, the primary objective of this task was to evaluate the effect of hydrogen on environment-assisted cracking of candidate target structural materials for applications in spallation-neutron-target (SNT) systems such as accelerator production of tritium (APT) and accelerator transmutation of waste (ATW). The materials selected for evaluation and characterization were martensitic stainless steels including Alloy EP 823, HT-9, and Type 422 stainless steel. Permanent magnets with the general composition Pr9 (Fe0.95Co0.05)85.5M0.5B5, where M denotes a transition metal, have been produced by melt spinning. The effect on the microstructure and magnetic properties of eight different alloying elements has been examined. The grain size and distribution have been correlated to the maximum energy product obtained. The grain size of the Pr9 (Fe0.95Co0.05) 85.5B5 control alloy was determined to be 17.5 nm, and it was found that the grain size was not significantly reduced compared to the control …

Abstract—The coercivity of cellular Sm-Co based permanent magnets is investigated by model calculations. The grain boundaries responsible for the pinning coercivity are modeled as planar inhomogenities with arbitrary cross-sectional geometry. The calculation yields a physically transparent integral equation for the pinning energy, whose derivative is the pinning force. The theory rationalizes experimental data on a semiquantitative level, but without adjustable parameters, and bridges the gap between smooth concentration gradients and abrupt interfaces. Explicit results are obtained for sinoidal profiles, for very thin grain boundaries, and for profiles intermediate between attractive and repulsive pinning. Highly coercive granular SmCo/CuTi films were produced by thermal processing of sputtered SmCo5 (CuTi) multilayers and investigated experimentally and theoretically. Electron microscopy shows that the processed films consist of spherical grains that have diameters of 5–10 nm and are embedded in a matrix. Highly textured (001) FePt:C nanocomposite thin films, deposited directly on thermally oxidized Si wafers, are obtained by multilayer deposition plus subsequent thermal annealing. Nanostructures, crystalline orientations, interactions, and magnetic properties are investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetic force microscopy, and magnetic measurements. The formation of the ordered L10 phase is confirmed by XRD, and only visible (00 ) peaks indicate a high degree of the (001) texture. TEM observation reveals that FePt grains are embedded in the C matrix and appear to be well isolated.

Magnetic properties and nanostructure of FePt : C cluster-deposited films with C volume fraction of 7%, 14%, 33%, and 45% have been studied. As-deposited FePt : C films were prepared by a multilayer method in which FePt layers were deposited from a cluster source employing a gas-aggregation technique and C layers from a normal sputtering gun. In the as-deposited films, FePt clusters with fcc structure are embedded in the C matrix. The initial magnetization processes in melt-spun Sm-Co alloys with remanent ratios above 0.7 have been studied. Alloys of (Sm(1/(6+x) Co (5+x)/(6+x) ) 94Nb3C3 (x = 067, 1.7, 2.3 and 3) alloys modified with Nb and C were melt spun at wheel speeds of 20 and 40 m/s, and the compositions span the range between the Sm2Co17 and SmCo5 stoichiometries. In this article, a novel and efficient approach for modeling radio‐frequency microelectromechanical system (RF MEMS) resonators by using artificial neural network (ANN) modeling is presented. In the proposed methodology, the relationship between physical‐input parameters and corresponding electrical‐output parameters is obtained by combined circuit/full‐wave/ANN modeling. More specifically, in order to predict the electrical responses from a resonator, an analytical representation of the electrical equivalent‐network model (EENM) is developed from the well‐known electromechanical analogs. Then, the reduced‐order, nonlinear, dynamic macromodels from 3D finite‐element method (FEM) simulations are generated to provide training, validating, and testing datasets for the ANN model.
