Energy storage technologies are key to increased penetration of renewable energies on the distribution system. Not only do they increase availability of energy, but they contribute to the overall reliability of the system. However, the cost of large-scale storage systems can often be prohibitive, and storage needs to be sized appropriately, both to fill the energy gaps inevitable in renewable energies such as wind and to minimize costs. Transport electrification is becoming the mainstream as a means to improve efficiency, performance, andsustainability of transportation systems. Electrical vehicles (EVs) can help to de-carbonise the environment, but a downside isthe technical issues presented to the low-voltage distribution network. To quantify the stochastic nature of transport-affectedelectrification, probabilistic load flow is employed. Monte Carlo-based simulation is applied to accommodate the probabilisticuncertainties associated with variable EV charging patterns. In order to overcome the drawbacks associated with conventional bulk lithium niobate photonic, thin-film lithium-niobate-on-silicon has been pursued recently. This work presents contributions made to electro-, and nonlinear-optic applications of this technology. For electrooptic applications, detailed modeling and design guidelines of optical and radio-frequency parameters of ultracompact modulators are developed and their accuracy in predicting the high-speed performance of such devices have been verified by comparison with experimental results. Novel design techniques and pathways for ultrahigh-speed (sub-terahertz) operation of such modulators, achieving up to 400 GHz modulation bandwidth, are also presented. The optical constant of bulk metal is used to determine the dispersion of the local field under one-dimensional (1D), two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) confinement. 3D confinement, expressed as ε mic 2 (ω3D), corresponds to the dielectric loss spectra of spherical particles with a diameter, d, much less than the wavelength of the beam used to measure the spectrum (d << λ). Excellent agreement with the results of Mie theory and experimental data for solid colloids within alkali halide crystals was observed. The function expressed as ε mic 2 (ω1D) allows the measurement of spectral micro-characteristics in the frequency range of the longitudinal collective motion of the free electrons. This corresponds to the spectrum of dielectric losses of bulk plasma oscillations. The function ε mic 2 (ω2D) describes the spectra of the dielectric losses of surface plasma oscillations in thin metal films. It is shown that the peak positions of ε mic 2 (ω3D), ε mic 2 (ω2D) and ε mic 2 (ω1D) spectra for simple metals, viz. alkali metals as well as Al, Be, Mg, Ga, In, Sn and Si, are in agreement with experimental results from electron-energy-loss spectroscopy and various optical techniques.

A printed edge-fed counterpart of the wire Bruce array antenna, for frequency scanning applications, is presented in this paper. The unit-cell of the proposed antenna consists of bowtie and semi-circular elements to achieve wide bandwidth from below 22 GHz to above 38 GHz with open-stopband suppression. The open-stopband suppression enables a wide seamless scanning range from backward, through broadside, to forward endfire. A sidelobe threshold level of −10 dB is maintained to evaluate efficient scanning performance of the antenna. The effects of a high background count and a microsecond dead time interval on a gated InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche photodiode (SPAD) during microsecond luminescence decay registration are discussed. It is shown that the background count rate of the SPAD limits its use for time-resolved and steady-spectral measurements, and that a “pile-up” effect appears in the microsecond range.

Introduction: A method that utilizes nanosecond bipolar cancellation (BPC) near a quadrupole electrodes to suppress a biological response but cancels the distal BPC at the quadrupole center, i.e., cancellation of cancellation (CANCAN), may allow for a remote focused stimulation at the quadrupole center.

Objectives: The primary object of this study was to outline the requirement of the CANCAN implementation and select an effective quadrupole configuration.

Abstract—Lead germanate glass samples co-doped with different Er3+/Yb3+ concentrations were prepared and the color variation of the up-conversion emissions in these glasses was observed using a 980 nm laser pump. unable and ultrabroadband mid-infrared (MIR) emissions in the range of 2.5–4.5 μm are firstly reported from Co2+-doped nano-chalcogenide (ChG) glass composites. The composites embedded with a variety of binary (ZnS, CdS, ZnSe) and ternary (ZnCdS, ZnSSe) ChG nanocrystals (NCs) can be readily obtained by a simple one-step thermal annealing method. Businesses are employing distributed generation techniques, such as wind turbines, to decarbonise their electrical energy supply by reducing their dependence on fossil-fuel-generated energy. This study investigates the effectiveness of a company making a €3,500,000 investment in a 3-MW on-site wind turbine to supply some or all of their factory electrical loads. The results should benefit the investing company and other potential investors by evaluating the economic, environmental, and social outcomes of the investment. A case study methodology was used. The proposed learning technique can be used in fMRI data analysis to infer a group-level brain network from a group of subjects or to uncover brain network differences among individuals with different brain conditions. Examination of lung function for diagnosis and monitoring of diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma can be performed with a variety of pulmonary function testing (PFT) techniques. The most commonly prescribed of these procedures are spirometry and whole-body plethysmography. However, these active participation tests depend on forced breathing maneuvers, may be physically exhausting, might not produce enough information, and are susceptible to being subject-dependent. Any attempt to scale pressure and volume of nonthermal plasma usually leads to instabilities due to the formation of localized space charge. The control of the plasma is limited by the discharge geometry, type of excitation, and gas composition. This article explores the possibility of controlling the space charge in a discharge with a spatially and temporally varying electric field. To understand glacier fluctuations and document regional glacier-state trends, glacier-boundary detection is necessary. Debris-covered glacier (DCG) mapping, however, is notoriously difficult using conventional geospatial technology methods. Therefore, in this research for automated DCG mapping, we evaluate the utility of a convolutional neural network (CNN), which is a deep learning feed-forward neural network. Mitotic cell detection is one of the challenging problems in the field of computational pathology. Currently, mitotic cell detection and counting are one of the strongest prognostic markers for breast cancer diagnosis. The clinical visual inspection on histology slides is tedious, error prone, and time consuming for the pathologist. วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้นำเสนอการวางตำแหน่งที่เหมาะสมของตัวขยายแสงเอสโอเอเพื่อขยายระยะทางของการสื่อสารทางแสงในการเชื่อมต่อโครงข่ายศูนย์ข้อมูล 100 กิกะบิต โดยใช้ดับเบิ้ลยูดีเอ็ม 4 ช่องสัญญาณในช่วงความยาวคลื่นในแถบความถี่โอ (1295 nm, 1300 nm, 1305 nm, และ 1310 nm) ด้วยอัตราการส่งข้อมูลช่องสัญญาณละ 25.78125 กิกะบิตต่อวินาทีตามมาตรฐาน 100GBASE-LR4 คุณภาพสัญญาณภายหลังการแทรกตัวขยายแสงเอสโอเอจะได้รับผลกระทบจาก (1) การเสื่อมโอเอสเอ็นอาร์เมื่อกำลังขาเข้าตัวขยายแสงเอสโอเอมีค่าต่ำ, (2) ผลกระทบรูปแบบบิตเมื่อกำลังขาเข้าตัวขยายแสงเอสโอเอมีค่าสูง, และ (3) เอ็กซ์จีเอ็มเมื่อใช้ขยายหลายช่องดับเบิ้ลยูดีเอ็ม เพื่อระบุการวางตำแหน่งที่เหมาะสมของตัวขยายแสงเอสโอเอ วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ได้ประเมินคุณภาพสัญญาณจากแผนภาพรูปตาและรูปคลื่นของสัญญาณแสงรวมทั้งกราฟอัตราความผิดพลาดบิตและกราฟช่วงไดนามิก ซึ่งวัดจากการทดลองสองชุดคือ (1) ชุดแรกใช้อุปกรณ์วิจัยเพื่อเปรียบเทียบผลการทดลองกับการคำนวณผ่านโปรแกรม MATLAB ได้ และ (2) ชุดสองใช้อุปกรณ์เชิงพาณิชย์เพื่อบ่งบอกความรุนแรงของผลกระทบทั้งสามในลิงก์ดับเบิ้ลยูดีเอ็มที่ใช้จริง ผลการทดลองชุดแรกสรุปได้ว่า (1) ผลการทดลองใกล้เคียงกับผลการคำนวณอัตราความผิดพลาดบิตภายใต้ผลกระทบหลักของการเสื่อมโอเอสเอ็นอาร์ (2) ผลกระทบรูปแบบบิตไม่สามารถถูกคำนวณได้เนื่องจากเป็นผลกระทบแบบไม่เชิงเส้น โดยขึ้นอยู่กับเวลาฟื้นฟูของตัวขยายแสงเอสโอเอและลำดับไบนารี่การสุ่มแบบเทียมที่ใช้งาน, และ (3) การวางตำแหน่งที่เหมาะของตัวขยายแสงเอสโอเอคือ 40 กิโลเมตรจากภาคส่ง อีกทั้งผลการทดลองชุดสองสรุปได้ดังนี้ผลกระทบทั้งสามก่อให้เกิดโทษกำลังที่ต่างกันในการส่งข้อมูลอย่างไรก็ตามการวางตำแหน่งที่เหมาะสมของตัวขยายแสงเอสโอเอในการทดลองนี้คือระยะทาง 40 กิโลเมตรเช่นเดียวกับการทดลองแรก ท้ายสุดเมื่อส่งข้อมูลทั้งสี่ช่องสัญญาณผ่านเส้นใยแก้วนำแสงระยะทางดังกล่าวและตัวขยายแสงเอสโอเอ พบว่าอัตราความผิดพลาดบิตมีค่าต่ำกว่า 10-12 พิสูจน์การรับส่งข้อมูลตามมาตรฐาน 100GBASE-LR4 ได้
