Scheduling algorithms are implemented in hardware in high-speed switches to provide Quality-of-Service guarantees in both cell-based and packet-based networks. Being able to guarantee end-to-delay and fairness, timestamp-based fair queuing algorithms, which include SCFQ, WFQ, WF2Q and WF2Q+, have received much attention in the past few years. In timestamp-based fair queuing algorithms, the size of timestamp and period determines the supportable rates in terms of the range and accuracy. Furthermore, it also determines the scheduler's memory in terms of offchip bandwidth and storage space. Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) is a broadcasting system used by transportation agencies to disseminate vital real-time traffic information to motorists. Each transmitter is restricted by the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to an average broadcast radius of three to five miles. Most commonly these transmitters are located at major highway intersections, such that motorists may take alternate routes in case of congestion or emergencies.

This work presents the analysis and design of an isolated flyback converter, without feedback from the load side. The converter is controlled from the primary side using the switch voltage and innovative control circuit topologies.
A detail study of the flyback circuit is undertaken including all known parasitics. Random numbers have conventionally been used in a range of applications such as numerical analysis, lotteries and computer simulation and as cryptographic keys. The algorithms used for the production of random numbers are termed pseudorandom, as the numbers produced are not truly random as they emanate from a deterministic periodic source that is they are predictable if a subset of the sequence is known. However, for most applications these pseudorandom number sources are entirely suitable.

Considering a compensated High Power Amplifier(HPA), in order to keep linearity for amplification, Input Back-Off(IBO) of the HP-A, has to be increased for handling a high PAPR. Traditionally beam steering in phase array antenna systems is achieved using tunable phase shifters or switched feed networks. Here, a tunable patch antenna element is suggested as a novel alternative to a combination of a radiating element and a phase shifter. A conductor backed coplanar waveguide patch antenna is chosen due to its suitability to mounted external tuning elements, using varactor diodes. The scalar time-dependent equation of radiative transfer is used to develop a theory of bounded beam wave narrow band pulse propagation and scattering in a medium characterized by many random discrete scatters, which scatters energy strongly in the forward scattering direction. Applications include the scattering of highly collimated millimeter waves in vegetation and optical beams in the atmosphere. As MPEG2 becomes the heart of most digital video applications, the need to edit an MPEG2 bitstream video in compressed domain has increased. To realize this need, two major technical issues must be resolved: decoder buffer and segment extraction.
In the decoder buffer issue, the edited stream must ensure that the buffer would not overflow or underfiow as the result of the editing. This thesis invented a mathematical model that could describe the editing task and predict the editing effect on the buffer. Future generations of Si technology will require ultra shallow junctions (tens of nm) in the drain and source regions of MOS transistors. Fabrication of such shallow p-type junctions requires implantation of boron at ultra low energies (< 1 keV), below the limits of standard ion implantation technology. A proposed solution involves implantation of B10Hx+ ions in which boron atoms carry less than 10% of the beam energy.

In this work, feasibility of using low cost, low resolution sensor for high performance brushless dc (BLDC) motor speed control is investigated. Conventional control, using a tachometer or high resolution encoder, suffers from drawbacks such as high cost, large physical volume, and high sensor processing bandwidth. On the other hand, sensorless BLDC motor, appealing in its hardware simplicity, does not provide sufficient fast performance. Using a standard low resolution sensor, such as a hall sensor or commutation encoder, a compromise between cost and performance can be obtained. Ultra-high precision positioning is of strategic importance to modern industrial processes such as semiconductor manufacturing. Traditional drives with mechanical transmission elements exhibit nonlinearities such as friction, backlash and hysteresis which limit the system performance significantly. The magnetic leadscrew in this work belongs to the class of contactless drives which overcome the above mentioned limitations of contact-type drives. The operation is based on leadscrew/nut coupling but unlike mechanical Ieadscrews, the threads of the nut and the leadscrew are aligned magnetically and do not come in contact. Thus, "hard" nonlinearities are substantially reduced resulting in high precision and high resolution.

The oscillatory potential (OP), a signal component of the electroretinogram (ERG), was investigated to determine correlation of the OP and pathological conditions of the inner retina. Large transients characterize the ERG. Such transients stimulate a filter's natural response. Since these responses can co-occur with the OP, a distorted OP will be extracted. A proposed signal windowing and padding technique for conditioning the ERG signal has been implemented for the extraction of a ntnimally distorted OP.

In particular, three distinct materials have been considered here - Erbium oxide, alumina and quartz. Erbium oxide has unique selective line emission, which gives a high emittance at a particular wavelength and low emittance in the rest of the infrared spectrum. It has applications in the design and development of thermophotovoltaic (TPV) generators. Dual frequency bi-orthogonally polarized antenna to be used in Global Positioning System applications operating in Li (1575.42 ± 10.23 MHz) and L2 (1227.60 ± 10.23 MHz) Bands has been studied. To ensure compatibility with existing applications, the antenna size is limited in dimensions to 4.120" x 4.680" x 1.250" including the radome. Orthogonally placed two dual frequency probe excited patches were designed using a high dielectric constant substrate (ε r = 9.8 and thickness of 250 mils, Rogers TMM10i material) to obtain vertical and horizontal polarization for each band. Two data hiding / watermarking techniques for grayscale and color images are presented. One of them is DCT based, another uses DFT to embed data. Both methods were implemented in software utilizing C/C++. The complete listings of these programs are included.
