Hobbyists and companies across the globe invest money and resources into remotely operated vehicles (ROV) to further expand underwater knowledge. Each ROV includes a controller that operates motors and monitors other crucial system vitals. The ROV Controller project makes the process of designing an ROV simpler and more affordable by providing a multi-purpose programmable controller.

In this work, a DC-DC converter is designed for an electric vehicle. The DC-DC converter is designed to provide 500W with a 200-400V input and a 12-15V adjustable output. Electric vehicle sales are beginning to increase in popularity and the need for DC-DC converters to siphon power from the tractive system is not yet fully satisfied, especially for single-seater class vehicles. Additionally, improving performance in efficiency without sacrificing wide input voltage range can benefit future DC-DC converter designs. For the past twenty years, fans of the Star Wars movies have been building their own replica robots or “droids” that they fell in love with on the big screen. This project takes an existing design for the BB-8 droid and integrates sensors that can detect people and then interact with them. This design uses six IR sensors and one main 8x8 IR sensor grid to be able to detect the closest person and turn BB- 8’s dome towards them as though they are looking at them.

This project explores the rapidly expanding area of AC direct drive for LED lighting. AC LED driving does not use typical DC-DC converter-based driving but uses semiconductor switches and a linear regulator to activate a number of LEDs proportional to the input voltage at any given time. This allows bulky, expensive magnetics to be eliminated from the system. The purpose of this document is to fully define our design solution and explain our manufacturing and testing results. Our project’s goal is to find a way to allow Danny Knutson, a retired Navy pilot and incomplete quadriplegic with limited use of his arms and an impaired sense of balance, to enter and exit his recumbent tricycle without any discomfort for him or his aide. A data acquisition system (DAQ) was designed based on the use of a STM32 microcontroller. Its purpose is to provide a transparent and low-cost alternative to commercially available DAQs, providing educators a means to teach students about the process through which data are collected as well as the uses of collected data. This thesis describes an experimental study and modeling of the current-transconductance dependence of the ALD1106, ALD1107, and CD4007 arrays. The study tests the hypothesis that the I-gm dependence of these 7.8 µm to 10 µm MOSFETs conforms to the Advanced Compact Model (ACM). Results from performed measurements, however, do not support this expectation. Despite the relatively large length, both ALD1106 and ALD1107 show sufficiently pronounced ‘short-channel’ effects to render the ACM inadequate. As a byproduct of this effort, we confirmed the modified ACM equation. With an m factor of approximately 0.6, it captures the I-gm dependence with sub-28% maximum error …

The senior project report documents the process of replacing the network of resistors inside an elliptical machine with a DC-DC buck-boost converter. The buck-boost DC-DC converter accepts a wide input range of 5-60 Volts, with an output of 36 Volts for the most efficient use of the already available microinverter. The microinverter reclaims the lost energy and safely distributes it back to the electrical grid. The addition of this project reduces heat emissions from wasted energy and shrinks the carbon footprint of its users.

Many commercial businesses operate out of multi-story office buildings. These companies often use many Wi-Fi access points to set up their own wireless network. IT personnel determine proper Wi-Fi access point placement using Wi-Fi strength maps. Conventional Wi-Fi strength maps only provide a two-dimensional view representing the wireless access point's effective range. The signal quality and strength measurements do not include changing vertical elevation. Efficient network layout in a multi-story building requires a system calculating signal quality metrics in three dimensions.

In this thesis, a prototype ECG monitor was developed that is integrated into an elastic shirt and takes a 3-lead ECG for over 5 days. The high-quality measurements can be used to identify markers indicative of various detrimental heart conditions. Measurements recorded by the device are encrypted and stored onto a micro-SD card. Current Holter monitors are expensive and have functional lives less than 48 hours; however, extended duration monitoring has been proven more useful in diagnosis. The device designed demonstrates that ECG measurements can be taken over longer durations without sacrificing quality, comfort, or device cost.

In this work, a modified boost converter design has been implemented in a multiphase configuration with a condensed topology. The modified aspect of the design has already been proven to drastically reduce input current ripple by about 40% in a single-phase implementation. By placing two modified boost converters in parallel with interleaving main switches (multiphase), the input inductors and modified capacitors of the modified topology can be reduced to just one of each, lowering the number of components, size, and cost. Additionally, multiphase DC/DC converters lower input/output voltage and current ripples while delivering more power compared to single-phase converters. By …

The delivery of high power and smaller footprints through a non-isolated topology demands for the use of multiphase topology in DC-DC converters. Multiphase reduces the ripple observed on both the input and output waveforms; however, it may not be enough to connect to sensitive power sources such as renewable energy sources. A single-phase modified boost converter demonstrates the ability to acquire very minimal input current ripple by addition of passive components. People enjoy vinyl music’s warm sound, user participation, and nostalgic feel, but the large physical size and seemingly immobile system requirements prevent vinyl turntables branching into digital music dominated realms. USB ports power many important everyday devices. A USB powered turntable increases record player adaptability, versatility, and portability thus expanding usable turntable scenarios. The manual turntable plays seven to twelve-inch vinyl at 33 1/3 or 45 rpm. It includes a stylus, magnetic phono cartridge, tonearm, 45-rpm adapter, motor, audio output, and several setting switches and knob for easy use.

The Digital Guitar Effects Pedal assists guitarists in creating music by implementing several useful functions. The pedal takes an analog input signal from an electric guitar, performs digital operations on it, and outputs a modified analog signal to an external guitar amplifier. Pedal functions include: an easy-to-use instrument tuner, a looper which records and plays back music segments, a tap tempo mode allowing easy synchronization with other instruments, and various guitar effects (distortion, echo, and vibrato, among other examples). The pedal user interface displays the current selected function, and allows easy switching between effects.

Today's modern digital audio systems are pushing performance boundaries. Most high quality audio digital to analog converters are capable of 24 bit, 96 kHz conversion. Professional audio interfaces frequently use 24 or 32 bit 192 kHz sample rates. These systems are able to achieve dynamic ranges greater than 100 dB, and distortion on the magnitude of single parts per million.
