An innovative method to measure the angular velocity using circularly polarized antennas is proposed. Due to the properties of circular polarization, the angular velocity is frequency modulated (FM) on a wireless carrier. This enables a low-cost precise continuous measurement of angular velocity using a standard FM demodulator. The hardware can be easily adapted for both high and low angular velocity values. The paper presents an analytical approach to the determination of losses in each of the sub-systems of the Photovoltaic (PV) Permanent Magnet DC Motor (PMDC) drive water pumping system with and without maximum power tracking. The losses of the system at varying heads are firstly, determined using parameters from the data sheets and then validated by experimental results. The results are used to establish the head and the flow rate optimal operating point of the system.

The selenium (Se) templates and hollow platinum (Pthollow) nanospheres with different sizes were controllably synthesized by adjusting the concentration of sodium dodecyl sulphonate (SDSN) (CSDSN, μmol·L-1) which was used as a surfactant. Accordingly, the Pthollow nanospheres modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode (Pthollow/GC) was prepared. The morphology and composition of Pthollow nanospheres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. Comparison In Factors Affecting Electrochemical Properties Of Thermal-Reduced Graphene Oxide For Supercapacitors, Peng Xiao, Da-Hui Wang, Jun-Wei Lang

In this paper, thermal-reduced graphene oxide (T-RGO) materials are synthesized by modified Hummer’s method, followed by thermal reduction under argon atmosphere at different temperatures. Electrochemical investigations show that, for T-RGO electrodes, good electrical conductivity is necessary and the surface functional groups play more significant role than the specific surface area in determining the electrochemical capacitance. The T-RGO obtained at 900 °C (T-RGO900) with a relatively high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area (314 m2·g-1) and a high electrical conductivity (2421 S·m-1) shows a low specific capacitance of 56 F·g-1. As a cathode material for sodium ion batteries, NaMnPO4/C nanocomposite is successfully synthesized by the combination of spraying drying and high temperature sintering methods. The crystal structure of the as-synthesized phosphate material is confirmed as the natrophilite NaMnPO4, which possesses orthorhombic symmetry and Pmnb space group. It is shown that the precursors are hollow spherical particles and the obtained product consists of micro-scaled secondary particles, which are composed of NaMnPO4 nanocrystallites (tens of nanometres) and amorphous carbon networks. Organic–inorganic hybrid films composed of polyaniline/nickel hexacyanoferrate (PANI/NiHCF) were fabricated on platinum substrates using unipolar pulse one-step electrodeposition. The deposition mechanism of hybrid film was proposed: Due to high potential of unipolar pulse electrodeposition, which avoided the reduction of Fe(CN)63-, the films with high electrocatalytic property and “insoluble” form of NiHCF were achieved. In this work, the possible structures of solvent-ion complex, resulting from the electrostatic interaction in the propylene carbonate (PC) base electrolyte of lithium ion battery, have been investigated using the density functional theory. The calculated results show that the structure of solvent-ion complex depends on the solvent number. In the PC base electrolyte, maximum number of PC solvents that coexist in the Li+-solvent sheath is four. Additionally, the salt anion exists in a complex with the positively charged alkyl group of PC rather than in a free state. The calculated results give a good explanation to the reported …

Glucose oxidase (GOx)-gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) composite was synthesized by the one-pot enzyme reaction in the mixture solution of NaAuCl4, GOx and glucose, and a Nafion/GOx-AuNPs/glassy carbon electrode was fabricated by the cast-coating method to examine the direct electrochemistry of GOx and the biosensing performance on this electrode. Such a GOx-AuNPs composite showed good direct-electrochemistry activity and bioactivity of GOx, probably because the enzyme-mediated AuNPs are close to the redox active centers of GOx. This research addresses the numerical distortion of features due to the presence of clouds in an image. The research aims to quantify the probability of a mismatch between two features in a single image, which will describe the likelihood that a visual navigation system incorrectly tracks a feature throughout an image sequence, leading to position miscalculations. First, an algorithm is developed for calculating transparency of clouds in images at the pixel level. This letter compares the propagation properties of Wireless Body Area Networks for three different locations (head, foot and waist) of the hub/internet gateway on the human body. The wireless channels between the hubs and four nodes (chest, back, and upper arms) are measured on a female and a male subject performing push-ups and squats. A framework using spider plots is used for cumulative performance description. We present a MoS2 biosensor to electrically detect prostate specific antigen (PSA) in a highly sensitive and label-free manner. Unlike previous MoS2-FET-based biosensors, the device configuration of our biosensors does not require a dielectric layer such as HfO2 due to the hydrophobicity of MoS2. Such an oxide-free operation improves sensitivity and simplifies sensor design. For a quantitative and selective detection of PSA antigen, anti-PSA antibody was immobilized on the sensor surface. The conventional distance estimation system only uses a constant speed and a constant level of road elevation to estimate the driving range of a vehicle. This technique leads to low prediction accuracy. In this project, a new estimation technique namely the Contour Positioning System (CPS) for an electric vehicle is proposed. This study proposes a new method for evaluating the damage of aging offshore platforms, based on dynamic tests. The proposed method involves a new damage indicator for reducing the effects of occurred damages accumulated before the first measurement. There is a growing awareness of the importance of using clean and environmentally friendly sources of energy. This paper presents the development of an intelligent energy saving heat pump for a water heater with a fuzzy logic controller that analyzes the heating efficiency of the heat pump heater. The fuzzy logic controller is employed for developing a heating algorithm to raise the efficiency of the heat pump heater and suppress unnecessary heating at high temperatures. Micro and Nano-electromechanical sensors (MEMS and NEMS) provide a means of actively sensing minute changes in the surrounding environment. Small changes in temperature, momentum, and strain may be sensed in passive modes while greater sensing possibilities exist in active modes. Theoretical femto-gram resolution mass detection and heated element sensing methods may be used while volatile organic compound (VOC) sensing may be achieved when combined with a functionalization layer or device heating. Advanced Digital Signal Processing Based Redefined Power Quality Indices, And Their Applications To Wind Power, Md Moinul Islam

This dissertation proposes a time-frequency distribution (TFD) based new method to redefine the power quality (PQ) indices for the assessment of PQ disturbances typically present in electric power systems. The redefined PQ indices are applied to various types of synthetic and real-world PQ disturbances in order to verify the efficacy and applicability of the proposed method. The case studies show that the proposed method provides actual results with respect to the existing TFD-based transient PQ indices, and provides much more accurate results than the traditional fast Fourier transform (FFT) based PQ indices under stationary and nonstationary PQ disturbances. The hydrostatic pressure mechanical seal has many advantages, and it can be used in rotating machines with lower speed. Based on the externally pressurized stable gas lubrication theory, the control equation of end face flow field for hydrostatic pressure mechanical seal with orifice compensation was established. The functional extremum algorithm and the finite element method were used to solve this equation. The effects of gas film thickness, air supply pressure, throttle orifice number and diameter, on face opening force and gas film stiffness were discussed in detail.
