Protein hydrolysate was prepared from Paddy (Volvariella volvaceae) mushroom. Hydrolysis uses commercially protease available Protamex ™ with enzyme concentration of 0.1% (w/w). Hydrolysis was performed at three different temperatures (room temperature, 40 °C, and 50 °C) with different incubation periods (60, 90, and 120 minutes). Enzyme inactivation was done in 90 °C for 3 minutes. Yield and degree of hydrolysis ranged from 94.76% to 99.55% and 19.06% to 24.59%. Protein solubility was about 89–11,8%. The longer time of hydrolysis, the darker the color of protein hydrolysate. Protein hydrolysate which has hydrolysis at 50 °C for 120 minutes has the highest …

Diafiltration by means of the ultrafiltration system of probiotic fermented Mung beans (Phaseolus radiatus L.) concentrate has been performed to reduce or eliminate salts and smaller impurities than the nominal cut-off of the membrane of 20,000 nominal weight cut-off (NWCO). In this work a flexible design of multi-nozzle arrangement of water mist fire suppression system was studied. The source of fire was a 65 mm diameter cooking oil fire. An investigation on the impact of nozzle arrangement on the temperature profile of fires was conducted. The occurance of oil splash due to the application of water mist was also studied. The water mist systems developed in the present work can effectively extinguish cooking oil fires and prevented them from re-ignition. This paper presents an efficient Differential Evolution (DE) based solution for harmonic elimination pulse-width modulation (HEPWM). The aim is to solve for the set of transcendental equations that determine the switching angles of the HEPWM waveform. The objective function of the DE is designed to minimize (to near zero) the selected harmonics and at the same time allows for the fundamental component of the output voltage to be controlled independently. To verify the method, simulation is carried out using MATLAB simulink. The computed switching angles are applied to a three phase voltage source inverter. Typical results are shown and discussed.

The induction motor is widely utilized in industry and exists in a plethora of applications. Until the last 20 years or so, it was primarily used in an open-loop fashion (i.e., balanced sinusoidal voltages, constant load torque and viscous friction) with its inherent stability counted on to allow operation over a wide range of operating conditions. The dynamic performance of dc-dc power electronic converters is mainly determined by the output filtering capacitor and inductor, control loop(s) compensator(s), and the voltage conversion ratio. Normally, a larger capacitance and/or a smaller inductance are not recommended because of the extra cost and size of the capacitor and/or the increment of the inductor current ripple. The capacitor current feed-forward method has gained popularity due its fast dynamic response, simpler structure, and less sensing losses. This paper presents the development of a real-time hardware/software laboratory to interface a soft real-time power system simulator with multiple unified power flow controllers (UPFC) via hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) to study their dynamic responses and validate control and placement approaches. This paper describes a unique laboratory facility that enables large-scale, soft real-time power system simulation coupled with the true physical behavior of a UPFC as opposed to the controller response captured by many other real-time simulators. The HIL line includes a synchronous machine, a UPFC, and a programmable load to reproduce the physical dynamics of the UPFC sub-network.

This paper proposes a single carrier (SC) receiver scheme with bandwidth-efficient frequency-domain equalization (FDE) for underwater acoustic (UWA) communications employing multiple transducers and multiple hydrophones. Different from the FDE methods that perform FDE on a whole data block, the proposed algorithm implements an overlapped-window FDE by partitioning a large block into small subblocks. a decision-directed channel estimation scheme is incorporated with the overlapped-window FDE to track channel variations and improve the error performance. the proposed algorithm significantly increases the length of each block and keeps the same number of training symbols per block, hence achieving better data efficiency without performance …

To reduce the product development time and achieve first-pass silicon success, fast and accurate estimation of very-large-scale integration (VLSI) interconnect, packaging and 3DI (3D integrated circuits) thermal profiles has become important. Present commercial thermal analysis tools are incapable of handling very complex structures and have integration difficulties with existing design flows. Many analytical thermal models, which could provide fast estimates, are either too specific or oversimplified. The concept of effective spatial bandwidth (EBW) is introduced for periodic domains. The EBW is applied to the incident and scattered fields along the boundary of an infinite circular cylinder. The scattered field is formulated using the method of auxiliary sources (MAS). In MAS, monopoles on an auxiliary surface (AS) are used to model the scattered field. It is shown that the EBW of the incident field can provide some insight regarding the placement of poles for the MAS scattered field model. Example simulations are provided to demonstrate the usefulness of EBW with respect to monopole placement rules in MAS.

We present a parallel implementation of a histogram-based particle filter for object tracking on smart cameras based on SIMD processors. We specifically focus on parallel computation of the particle weights and parallel construction of the feature histograms since these are the major bottlenecks in standard implementations of histogram-based particle filters. The proposed algorithm can be applied with any histogram-based feature sets—we show in detail how the parallel particle filter can employ simple color histograms as well as more complex histograms of oriented gradients (HOG). This dissertation presents the design of a next-generation wireless sensor network node. The node incorporates many new and innovative technologies such as an ultra-wideband radio which allows very low-energy communication, a low-power radiation detection front end, and an efficient implementation of dynamic voltage scaling which improves the energy efficiency of the integrated processor. The complete design is integrated on a single chip for maximum power savings and minimal size.

In this paper, two different control methods for Z-source inverter are examined. The Simple Boost and the Maximum Boost control methods of the inverter are analyzed and compared each other using simulation with MATLAB/Simulink. The Simple Boost control with independence relation between modulation index and shoot-through duty ratio is also simulated and analyzed. The selection of high modulation index and shoot-through duty ratio can reduce the inverter’s dc link voltage overshoot and increasing power delivery capacity of the inverter.

A Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) neural network-based approach for estimation of the voltage stability L-index in a power system with Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs) is presented. We report on the embedding of a domain specific language, (X)HTML, into Haskell and demonstrate how this superficial non-context-free language can be represented and rendered to guarantee World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) compliance. Compliance of web content is important for the health of the Internet, accessibility, visibility, and reliable search. While tools exist to verify web content is compliant according to the W3C, few systems guarantee that all produced content is compliant. A color CCD (charge-coupled device) camera is used as a chemical detector to quantify fluorescence emission intensities from two kinds of optofluidic device platforms. the fluorophores responsive to oxygen are immobilized in photo-patternable hydrogel matrices. the first device is a hydrogel sensor array formed within a commercial silicone elastomer imaging chamber. the second one involves a double-chamber fluidic device composed of a permeable membrane layer and dry film photoresist layers. the results suggest that digital color imagers, in combination with a simple color separation method, can serve as the high-quality chemical detectors for fluidic biosensors and biological culture platforms. © …

Steady-state characteristics analysis for the deep-sea running mechanism with planetary gear train which is designed to adapt to complex terrain in the deep-sea hydrothermal sulfide and rich-cobalt incrustation survey area is based on articulated steering radius. The articulated steering radius formula of the deep-sea running mechanism is derived from the geometric relationship, considering the wheel side slip angle. Based on the formula, three types of steering steady-state characteristic analysis, understeer, neutral steer and oversteer, are made for the mechanism. The transmission property of metallic films with two-dimensional hole arrays is studied experimentally and numerically. For a triangular lattice subwavelength hole array in a 150 nm thick Ag film, both cavity resonance and planar surface modes are identified as the sources of enhanced optical transmissions. Semi-analytical models are developed for calculating the dispersion relation of the cavity resonant mode. They agree well with the experimental results and full-wave numerical calculations. Strong interaction between the cavity resonant mode and surface modes is also observed.

This paper presents a constructive method to design stabilizing controllers for a class of second-order uncertain nonlinear systems whose input parts may vanish at the origin. A sufficient condition for the existence of stabilizing state feedback controllers is provided. Under the small control property, a formula is proposed for constructing continuous stabilizing feedback laws. In the case that the small control property does not hold, another formula for constructing continuous state feedback controllers, with small control magnitude near the origin, to achieve robust practical stability is presented.
