An Fpga Based Implementation Of The Exact Stochastic Simulation Algorithm, Phani Bharadwaj Vanguri Dec 2010

An Fpga Based Implementation Of The Exact Stochastic Simulation Algorithm, Phani Bharadwaj Vanguri

Masters Theses

Mathematical and statistical modeling of biological systems is a desired goal for many years. Many biochemical models are often evaluated using a deterministic approach, which uses differential equations to describe the chemical interactions. However, such an approach is inaccurate for small species populations as it neglects the discrete representation of population values, presents the possibility of negative populations, and does not represent the stochastic nature of biochemical systems. The Stochastic Simulation Algorithm (SSA) developed by Gillespie is able to properly account for these inherent noise fluctuations. Due to the stochastic nature of the Monte Carlo simulations, large numbers of simulations …

Energy Modeling Of Wireless Sensor Nodes Based On Petri Nets, Ali Shareef, Yifeng Zhu Sep 2010

Energy Modeling Of Wireless Sensor Nodes Based On Petri Nets, Ali Shareef, Yifeng Zhu

Graduate Student Scholarly and Creative Submissions

Energy minimization is of great importance in wireless sensor networks in extending the battery lifetime. Accurately understanding the energy consumption characteristics of each sensor node is a critical step for the design of energy saving strategies. This paper develops a detailed probabilistic model based on Petri nets to evaluate the energy consumption of a wireless sensor node. The model factors critical components of a sensor node, including processors with emerging energy-saving features, wireless communication components, and an open or closed workload generator. Experimental results show that this model is more flexible and accurate than Markov models. The model provides a …

Enhanced Cal Poly Super System Simulink Model, Matthew Ogden Mcfarland Aug 2010

Enhanced Cal Poly Super System Simulink Model, Matthew Ogden Mcfarland

Master's Theses

The Cal Poly Sustainable Power for Electrical Resources (SuPER) project is a solar power DC distribution system designed to autonomously manage and supply the energy needs of a single family off-the-grid home. The following thesis describes the improvement and re-design of a MATLAB Simulink model for the Cal Poly SuPER system. This model includes a photovoltaic (PV) array, a lead-acid gel battery with temperature effects, a wind turbine model, a re-designed DC-DC converter, a DC microgrid, and multiple loads. This thesis will also include several control algorithms such as a temperature controlled thermoelectric (T.E.) cooler, intelligent load switching, and an …

High Resolution Simulation Of Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging, Cindy G. Romero Jun 2010

High Resolution Simulation Of Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging, Cindy G. Romero

Master's Theses

The goal of this Master’s thesis is to develop a more realistic simulation of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) that has the ability to image detailed targets, and that can be used for Automatic Target Recognition (ATR). This thesis project is part of ongoing SAR ATR research at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) sponsored by Raytheon Space & Airborne Systems and supervised by Dr. John Saghri.

SAR is a form of radar that takes advantage of the forward motion of an antenna mounted on a moving platform (such as an airplane or spacecraft) to synthetically produce the effect of a …

A Comparison Of Software Engines For Simulation Of Closed-Loop Control Systems, Sanket D. Nikam May 2010

A Comparison Of Software Engines For Simulation Of Closed-Loop Control Systems, Sanket D. Nikam

Theses

A wide array of control system design and simulation software engines is available in market. It includes MATLAB-Simulink, LabVIEW, Maple-MapleSim, Scilab-Scicos, VisSim and Mathematica-Control Professional Suite (CPS). Among all of them MATLAB-Simulink is dominant and widely used software engine. The main aim of this study is to implement different state space control methods for non-linear Furuta pendulum system in each one of them and to compare performance against MATLAB-Simulink.

Different parameters like learning curve, interoperability, flexibility, control design tools, documentation and tech support are considered for efficiency comparison. It is shown that MapleSim has multi-body intuitive physical modeling (acausal) approach …

Behaviors Of Real-Time Schedulers Under Resource Modification And A Steady Scheme With Bounded Utilization, Refi̇k Samet, Orhan Fi̇kret Duman Jan 2010

Behaviors Of Real-Time Schedulers Under Resource Modification And A Steady Scheme With Bounded Utilization, Refi̇k Samet, Orhan Fi̇kret Duman

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this article we present an analysis for task models having random resource needs and different arrival patterns. In hard real-time environments like avionic systems or nuclear reactors, the inputs to the system are obtained from real world by using sensors. And it is highly possible for a task to have different resource needs for each period according to these changing conditions of real world. We made an analysis of schedulers for task models having random resources in each period. Since feasibility tests for usual task models are just limited to some specific schedulers and arrival patterns, we made our …
