Effects Of Steel And Polypropylene Fiberson The Fire-Resistant Performanceof High Strength Concrete, Chutimon Sektheera
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In high-temperature conditions, high-strength concrete (HSC) is often vulnerable to explosive spalling and mechanical degradation due to its dense matrix and low permeability. Enhancing the thermal and mechanical performance of HSC is therefore critical for improving its structural integrity under fire exposure. This study investigates the effects of steel (ST) and polypropylene (PP) fibers on the mechanical properties and fire resistance of HSC exposed to elevated temperatures. Experimental variables included different fiber types and dosages, with concrete mixtures incorporating ST fibers (0.5–1.0% by volume) and two types of PP fibers: macro fibers (0.5–1.0% by volume) and micro fibers (0.05–0.10% by …

Self-Consolidating Concrete Design For Drilled Shaft Structural Applications, Grady S. Caton
Self-Consolidating Concrete Design For Drilled Shaft Structural Applications, Grady S. Caton
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) is a relatively new concrete technology which allows the concrete to be placed without the need for manual or machine vibration. This innovation reduces labor costs, construction times, and can provide a smooth, finished surface. However, this technology is used in the United States primarily in the precast and prestressed concrete industry. The utility of SCC in structural applications, such as areas of dense reinforcement or locations where complex geometry makes consolidation impossible, is also advantageous. In this study, a series of SCC mixtures were developed both with and without fly ash replacement. These mixtures were then …

Comparing In-Situ Liquefaction Triggering Procedures For Sites In Arkansas, Sagar Barua
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
There currently exists a significant amount of uncertainty when designing piles for bridge foundations in liquefiable soil. Currently ARDOT engineers use a Standard Penetration Test (SPT) based liquefaction spreadsheet developed 10 years ago to evaluate liquefaction triggering. Since this spreadsheet was developed, updates to the liquefaction triggering procedures have been published making the spreadsheet out-of-date. Moreover, additional methods of liquefaction evaluation using cone penetration test (CPT) and shear wave velocity (Vs) provide added means of evaluating liquefaction potential. This thesis updates ARDOT's liquefaction triggering evaluation methodology with the newest procedures and incorporates additional empirical liquefaction hazard estimates such as the …

Machine Learning-Based Tool To Predict The Retroreflectivity Of Pavement Markings Throughout The U.S., Ipshit I. Idris
Machine Learning-Based Tool To Predict The Retroreflectivity Of Pavement Markings Throughout The U.S., Ipshit I. Idris
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Retroreflectivity plays a crucial role in pavement markings as it enhances nighttime visibility for drivers. Yet, due to budget constraints, many U.S state agencies rarely monitor retroreflectivity of their markings, and instead, restripe markings based on visual inspection or fixed schedule. Addressing this, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) introduced a new final rule, effective September 6, 2022, that established a new minimum standard for pavement marking retroreflectivity. This rule requires state agencies to implement a method within four years for maintaining pavement marking retroreflectivity at or above minimum levels. The ultimate objective of this study was to assist state agencies comply …
