There are currently more than 572,000 registered pilots in the United States, ranging from commercial UAS pilots to commercial manned aircraft. Although pilots are registered in each of the 50 states, where they live and reside can be seen through various forms of geospatial statistical analysis in a geographic information system. This talk explores spatial patterns of the FAA U.S. Airmen database through hotspot and cluster-based analysis of the database.

The DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will now have a registry of approved trainers that entry-level truckers must use, Class A and Class B CDL applicants will have separate standards, and there are new requirements for certain endorsements. Restricted access U-turn (RCUT) and J-turn intersections are fairly new to Indiana. In the state system, four constructed J-turns have been in service for at least a year. Since 2016, the State of Indiana has awarded $400 million in Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) funds to support local road and bridge projects throughout Indiana. Several projects have applied pavement recycling processes to rehabilitate and reconstruct urban and rural road-ways utilizing INDOT-developed specifications for full depth reclamation (FDR), cold in-place recycling (CIR), and cold central plant recycling (CCPR). This presentation covers how these construction processes were implemented with these grants to fix many pavements across the state.

This is the story of a very aggressive construction season in Marion County, Indiana, resulting from extreme winter damage on and around I-465: how we bundled the contracts into lettable packages, overcame a rainy May and June with schedule modifications, and accomplished so much while protecting the workers. This project involved the downtown section of SR 44, which was relinquished by INDOT to the City of Franklin. Reconstruction was funded through a relinquishment agreement, feder-al-aid funding applications, and local monies. It was a total reconstruction project of over $13 million, built in nine phases over a 4-year span. The project passes through the heart of downtown historic and business districts. This presentation will review all of the coordination and challenges of the project.

Keeping the variety of wheels a-turnin' . . . and a-turnin’ safely in Angola, Indiana, was key when designing the streetscape improvements to Maumee Street, a federal truck route running through the heart of the downtown district. Today, safety challenges have been addressed, and pedestrians stroll along the ADA-compliant sidewalks (originally designed more than a century ago to accommodate the loading and unloading of horse-drawn buggies) adjacent to vehicular traffic that includes a large volume of semi-trucks.
