The aging underground pipelines in the United States, which include sewer and water supply systems, have exceeded their design lifespan and will have to be renewed or replaced to continue providing these vital services to communities. Two methods can be used to replace the pipes: open-cut and trenchless technologies. Trenchless methods offer several advantages in urban areas: a small work area, lower operational and maintenance costs, and fewer negative impacts on the surrounding communities. This dissertation investigates the use of wastewater from various treatment stages in concrete production to promote sustainable construction practices. Concrete prepared with potable water (PW) served as a control, while wastewater from plant final effluent (FE), chlorine contact basin (CL), secondary clarifier effluent (SC), primary clarifier effluent (PC), and bar screen effluent (BSE) was evaluated.

A comprehensive testing program was implemented to assess performance, including compressive strength tests, water absorption measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results showed that wastewater from advanced stages (FE, CL, SC) had minimal impact on strength and durability, …

Single and group sets of anchors with high-strength steel-headed studs type (F1554 Grade 105) were cast in place within concrete specimens of different amounts of steel fibers and varied edge distances. Bioenergy obtained from anaerobic digestion of lignocellulose biomass is one of the promising candidates to help move towards a fossil fuel free future. Agriculture waste has up to 90% lignocellulose content, and the eight leading US crops produce over 500 million tons of residue each year. The first specimen had four panels with monolithically poured grade beams around each panel, while the second specimen had two panels with monolithically poured grade beams supported by additional steel beams. The second specimen also included carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate retrofitting under one of the panels. The slabs were supported by concrete block masonry piers with various contact conditions. This study investigates the tensile properties and ductility of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) reinforced with high-strength steel hooked fibers with a tensile strength of 445 ksi (3,070 MPa) and compares its tensile performance to that of UHPC reinforced with commonly used high-strength smooth steel microfibers with a tensile strength of 2,160 MPa (313 ksi). Highway slope failure is globally a momentous issue. Highway slope failure poses a significant issue in transportation infrastructure. Several factors can contribute to slope failures, including geological conditions, weather events, and human activities. Weather events like heavy rainfall, cyclic shrinkage and swelling can trigger slope failures constructed on high plastic clays.
