A Design Of Experiments Approach To Deck Flow Characterization On An Aircraft Carrier, Yugapriya Sivanesan Wing

A wind tunnel model of an aircraft carrier was used to make air wake measurements. Particle image velocimetry measurements of turbulence intensity were made on a center plane intersecting the angled deck of the aircraft carrier. The factors of interest for the study were model pitch, yaw, island location, and island type. Two island types were used, a representative shape of current designs and an ideal streamlined airfoil shape. Each factor was studied at two levels in order to provide linear models using a Design of Experiments factorial design.
