Investigating The Effects Of Altitude And Flap Setting On The Specific Excess Power Of A Pa-28-161 Piper Warrior, Tjimon Meric Louisy
Theses and Dissertations
The high number of General Aviation (GA) accidents attributed to Loss of Control suggests that GA pilots are lacking low speed awareness and are unable to appropriately recognize when the aircraft is in a low energy state. There is, therefore, an urgent need for the development of an energy management system which is applicable to GA aircraft that can alert the pilot in situations of low energy conditions and recommends to the pilot the appropriate corrective action to restore conditions to a safe energy state. This will require the development of an algorithm that governs this energy management system that …

Numerical modeling was also performed to study the lightning associated with gigantic jets by using a stochastic lighting propagation model. Finally, this dissertation focuses on the …
A First-Principle Power And Energy Model For Evtol Vehicles, Max Skuhersky
A First-Principle Power And Energy Model For Evtol Vehicles, Max Skuhersky
Theses and Dissertations
A number of well-established aircraft manufacturers, such as Airbus, Boeing, or Bell, along with new startups have begun developing flying prototypes of electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing vehicles (eVTOL). To certify this emerging type of air mobility vehicles for commercial use, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is considering adjusting currently used certification procedures for small aircraft to include eVTOL vehicles. One of the hurdles to this approach is that eVTOL vehicles are neither able to glide like a small, fixed-wing aircraft, nor to autorotate, like a helicopter, if the batteries are depleted. Therefore, active energy management and energy awareness by …

Dynamics Of Spacecraft Orbital Refueling, Casey Clark
Dynamics Of Spacecraft Orbital Refueling, Casey Clark
Theses and Dissertations
A quantitative collation of relevant parameters for successfully completed experimental on-orbit fluid transfers and anticipated orbital refueling future missions is performed. The dynamics of connected satellites sustaining fuel transfer are derived by treating the connected spacecraft as a rigid body and including an internal mass flow rate. An orbital refueling results in a time-varying local center of mass related to the connected spacecraft. This is accounted for by incorporating a constant mass flow rate in the inertia tensor. Simulations of the equations of motion are performed using the values of the parameters of authentic missions in an endeavor to provide …

Numerical And Analytical Modelling For Droplet Evaporation Resulting In Convective Flow Cooling Verified By Experimentation, Adwaith Ravichandran
Theses and Dissertations
The temperature of a gaseous convective stream can be reduced by injecting a colder liquid into the stream. The extent to which this gas temperature can be reduced depends on the amount of liquid being injected into the gas flow domain, rate of energy transfer (heat) from the gas phase to the liquid resulting in evaporation and the length of the domain itself referred to in this study as a “mixer”. This study proposes the use of a non-dimensional Damkohler number that relates the liquid residence time and the liquid life time which could serve as a yardstick to determine …
