We use the method developed by Elnahhas and Johnson ["On the enhancement of boundary layer skin friction by turbulence: An angular momentum approach," J. Fluid Mech. 940, A36 (2022)] and Xu et al. ["Decomposition of the skin-friction coefficient of compressible boundary layers," Phys. Fluids 35, 035107 (2023)] for the decomposition of the skin-friction coefficient to integrate the mean temperature equation for high-Reynolds-number compressible boundary layers and arrive at an identity for the decomposition of the wall-heat flux. This article investigates the six-degree-of-freedom (6-DoF) entry trajectory optimization problem in a Human-Mars entry, powered descent, and landing mission. During the entry phase, aerodynamic forces are employed to decelerate the vehicle. Instead of being treated as a point mass, both translational and rotational motions of the entry vehicle are considered. Specifically, the 6-DoF rigid body motion of the entry vehicle is modeled using the unit dual quaternion representations to avoid highly nonlinear terms in the flight dynamics expression originally based on the flight-path coordinates. The modification of asphalt binder with natural rubber latex (NR) significantly improves the rutting and fatigue resistance of asphalt mixtures. However, NR-modified binder is prone to low workability and wettability due to its high viscosity. Therefore, this research focuses on examining the influences of silane and wax-based additives on the wettability of natural rubber-modified binders and the binder-aggregates adhesion performances. The discontinuous Galerkin time-domain (DGTD) method accelerated by local time-stepping (LTS) and parallel techniques is employed to analyze the time-domain shielding effectiveness (TDSE) of metallic enclosures. The detailed formulations and implementation procedures of the DGTD method and LTS and parallel techniques are introduced. Numerical results validate the correctness of the proposed method. Moreover, the influence of various design parameters of the metallic enclosure, including aperture dimensions, wall thickness, spacing of aperture arrays, etc., on the TDSE are analyzed by the proposed method. The goal of the trade-off design method presented in this study is to achieve newly targeted performance requirements by modifying the current values of the design variables. The trade-off design problem is formulated in the framework of Sequential Quadratic Programming. The method is computationally efficient as it is gradient-based, which, however, requires the performance functions to be differentiable. Artificial intelligence is gaining tremendous attractiveness and showing great success in solving various problems, such as simplifying optimal control derivation. This work focuses on the application of Neuroevolution to the control of Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) cohorts operating at uncontrolled intersections. The proposed method implementation’s simplicity, thanks to the inclusion of heuristics and effective real-time performance are demonstrated. The resulting architecture achieves nearly ideal operating conditions in keeping the average speeds close to the speed limit. Applying thin metallic coating layers on the surface of polymeric parts or structures (metallization) that is generally performed via electroplating process aims to improve both mechanical integrity and design aesthetics. The Pearl River brings fresh water and nutrients into Lake Borgne regulating conditions for oyster growth in estuarine waters. However, there are no flow measurement stations installed on East Pearl or West Pearl either at the river outlets or after the upstream bifurcation of the Pearl. This study aims to model the Lower Pearl River to understand the flow dynamics in the major branches, and to determine the final outflow distribution into the Mississippi Sound, aiming to improve river forcing for ocean models studying estuarine dynamics of the Mississippi Sound.

Commercial welding filler wires have less strength than hot-press-forming (HPF) steels. As the 2.0 GPa-HPF steel sheets have been released, their lap welding characteristics were investigated using gas metal arc welding in this study. The base metal was 1.1 mm-thick 2.0 GPa-HPF steel sheets, and three filler metal wires considered in this study (W540, W920, and W980) had tensile strengths of 540, 920, and 980 MPa, respectively. In this paper, a dual-stator axial flux permanent magnet machine with a spoke-type rotor for electric vehicle applications is investigated. The rotor PMs are positioned in a spoke-type field-concentrating arrangement, which provides high flux concentration. Two stators—one stator configuration with double-layer wound coils and another without winding—are employed. The usage of single-layer wound coils is possible in this topology, and by using this type of winding it is possible to implement advanced in-slot cooling systems. The project consolidated multiple geotechnical data sources into a unified database accessible to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) staff, enabling informed decision making and improving project outcomes. Smart homes and virtual power plant (VPP) controls are growing fields of research with potential for improved electric power grid operation. A novel testbed for co-simulation of electric power distribution systems and distributed energy resources (DERs), is employed to evaluate VPP scenarios and propose an optimization procedure. DERs of specific interest include behind-the-meter (BTM) solar photovoltaic (PV) systems as well as heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. This project entails designing, simulating, and verifying analog circuits that can perform essential computing functions for power systems applications. The project aims to remedy critical challenges associated with handling calculations digitally, namely, time and power. This project's scope includes creating a library of circuits in SPICE that can be used to model and simulate complex mathematical equations. From these SPICE models, the circuit can be constructed physically, where the solution can be generated in less time using less power than doing the computation digitally. The portable laser communication device (PLCD), is a low cost system used to set up networks in data isolated regions via an optical line-of-sight communications protocol. This project investigates the adverse effects of the Doppler Shift on a LoRa waveform transmitted from a Low Earth Orbit Satellite or LEOSAT. This work is on behalf of Project OWL, who will use these results to justify further investment into developing a LEOSAT for their communication network.
