Study Of The Cracking Reaction In Ethylene Reactant, Atchariya Anantapanyasut
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In this thesis, the main objectives were to study the cracking of ethylene, comparing between thermal cracking and catalytic cracking reactions. The ethylene and nitrogen which atomic ratio 1:1 were used as reactant feed on Al2O3, zeolite-Y and silica-supported tungsten catalysts at 723 K and 25 atm. The inert SiO2 was used to represent the thermal cracking. The catalysts were characterized by NH3-TPD. The product distribution was clearly different between the thermal cracking and catalytic cracking. Thermal cracking produced the olefin products while catalytic cracking produced paraffin products.

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Silica supported tungsten catalysts were physically mixed with different acidic material types (similar particle size ≈ 53-106 µm) as an extra support and compared with the case as bi-support. All catalysts were tested in the metathesis reaction of ethylene and trans-2-butene to propylene and characterized by XRD, NH3-TPD, FTIR-pyridine, UV-vis, Raman, SEM-EDX, TPR and TPO, systematically comparing with reference catalyst, which were physically mixed with SiO2 as the extra support. Adding acidic material resulted in an increased total acidity of the catalysts. Moreover, it could improve the WOx dispersion on the surface and increase the active site precursors. These led …

Effect Of Citric Acid On Hydrodesulfurization Activity Of Dibenzothiophene And 4,6 Dimethyldibenzothiophene Over Como Catalyst On Al2o3-Zro2 Support, Pawinee Sintarako
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The effect of citric acid on the HDS activity of DBT and 4,6 DMDBT on CoMo/γ-Al2O3-ZrO2 catalysts has been investigated. It has been found that the CoMo/γ-Al2O3-ZrO2 physically mixed with 10wt.% of ZrO2 shows the highest HDS conversion of DBT in the presence of pyridine. The addition of ZrO2 as a secondary support obviously suppresses the influence of pyridine on HDS activity of DBT over CoMo/γ-Al2O3 based catalyst. The synergistic benefits of ZrO2 and citric acid on HDS activity of DBT and 4,6 DMDBT over CoMo/γ-Al2O3 catalyst are not found. The modification of CoMo/γ-Al2O3 catalyst by citric acid can inhibit …

Electrochemical, Interfacial, And Surface Studies Of The Conversion Of Carbon Dioxide To Liquid Fuels On Tin Electrodes, Jingjie Wu
Theses and Dissertations
The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) into liquid fuels especially coupling with the intermittent renewable electricity offers a promising means of storing electricity in chemical form, which reduces the dependence on fossil fuels and mitigates the negative impact of anthropogenic CO2 emissions on the planet. Although converting CO2 to fuels is not in itself a new concept, the field has not substantially advanced in the last 30 years primarily because of the challenge of discovery of structural electrocatalysts and the development of membrane architectures for efficient collection of reactants and separation of products. An efficient catalyst for the electrochemical …

Microfluidic Electrical Sorting Of Particles Based On Shape In A Spiral Microchannel, John Dubose, Xinyu Lu, Saurin Patel, Shizhi Qian, Sang Woo Joo
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Faculty Publications
Shape is an intrinsic marker of cell cycle, an important factor for identifying a bioparticle, and also a useful indicator of cell state for disease diagnostics. Therefore, shape can be a specific marker in label-free particle and cell separation for various chemical and biological applications. We demonstrate in this work a continuous-flow electrical sorting of spherical and peanut-shaped particles of similar volumes in an asymmetric double-spiral microchannel. It exploits curvature-induced dielectrophoresis to focus particles to a tight stream in the first spiral without any sheath flow and subsequently displace them to shape-dependent flow paths in the second spiral without any …

Optimization Of Uv-Led Curable Printing Material For Applications In Direct Writing Systems: Inkjet, Reverse Offset, And Micro Dispensing Gpd, Ada Judith Ortega Varela
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
The quality of a product fabricated by direct writing methods will depend greatly on the properties of the printing material and its compatibility with the printing process. Although multiple advances in developing printing inks and pastes with novel properties are being made, the potential those can bring to electronics is hindered by their stability and performance during the printing process. In this study a UV-LED curable acrylic material was used to test the optimization of inks and pastes for three of the most common direct writing systems: Piezo-type Inkjet, Reverse Offset Roll to Plate, and Micro Deposition. The viscosity of …

This project is a focus on characterizing the process for actualizing three dimensional structures out of a carbon nanostructure composite via a direct print additive manufacturing process. Manufacturing parts additively enables for realization of geometrically complex shapes that often times cannot be manufactured any other way. The specificity of a material's properties have to be such, that the processing method can precisely place and bond material to itself in a highly repeatable manner. Commercial materials for additive manufacturing are have been optimized with these goals in mind and, therefore, often times lack the rigor and robustness for many applications.

The effect of adding Re to Nb-based alloys and is intended to analyze in depth the microstructures of Nb based alloys with Re, Si and Cr additions, in atomic percentages. The binary alloys (Nb-5Re, Nb-5Si and Nb-5Cr) reveal the formation of a single phase, NbSS, NbSS+ Nb3Si and NbSS+NbCr2 respectively. The formation of the single phase was confirmed by TEM studies for the Nb-5Re alloy. Addition of Re to form ternary alloys, has helped in the formation of Nb5Si3 and (Nb, Re) Cr2, in Nb-5Re- 5Si and Nb-5Re-5Cr respectively. Quaternary alloy Nb-5Re-5Si-5Cr has Nb5Si3, NbCr2 and NbSS. The oxidation behavior …

A Circuit-Based Algorithm For Two-Phase Flow At The Pore Scale In Porous Media, Todd Dorethy
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Models of two-phase flow in porous media are of practical interest in many fields of science and engineering such as in oil recovery and hydrology. For this class of problem, an immiscible fluid is injected into a single-phase, porous medium to evict its valuable, native fluid. Because the aim is to amass as much of the indigenous fluid as possible, models attempt to output reliable flow regime patterns depicting how well the invading fluid displaces the native fluid.
Flow regime patterns generally depend upon the geometry of the domain, stimulation at the boundaries, and properties of the invading and native …

Most of the studies to explore the impact of distracted driving have been descriptive in nature; i.e. the research is conducted in naturalistic settings to evaluate the performance of the driver with and without distracters. However simulation models can also be used that predict the workload for driving tasks. Using concepts from process modeling, baseline models of driving tasks can be created for different driving sequences that include the associated fine motor, visual and cognitive human resources. These models can then be used to evaluate incidents of workload overload caused by different distracters, from both the internal and external vehicle …

Improving Scoliosis Rehabilitation, Ryan Neufeld
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses - Archive
Scoliosis, a disease that mainly affects children, is a deformity of the spinal column in all three dimensions. Treatment for scoliosis aims at straightening the spine with minimal discomfort to the patient. Current treatments involve wearing a polymeric brace that based on its design, exerts force on the spine in order to straighten it. The shape of the brace and the locations where the brace should apply forces are defined based on the experience of the orthotics specialist. Currently used braces are not equipped with sensors to monitor the loads generated and possibly aid in the rehabilitation process. The rehabilitation …
