Charged Particle Imaging Methods For Cd Metrology Of Sub 22nm 3d Device Structures, Aron Joel Cepler Jan 2013

Charged Particle Imaging Methods For Cd Metrology Of Sub 22nm 3d Device Structures, Aron Joel Cepler

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Critical dimension scanning electron microscopes (CD-SEMs) are used to perform highly accurate dimensional metrology on patterned features. In order to ensure optimal feedback for process control, it is necessary that these tools produce highly reproducible measurements. As the smallest device features continue to shrink, and new challenging high aspect ratio (HAR) structures are being introduced, gaps are appearing between process control measurements that are necessary for high volume manufacturing and the capabilities of the CD-SEM. Two possible routes for solving this problem include improvement of the existing CD-SEM technology or the replacement of the CD-SEM.

Using a high-throughput polymerization and screening platform, a chemically defined, synthetic polymer grafted coating that supports strong attachment and high expansion capacity of pluripotent stem cells has been discovered using mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells as a model system. This optimal substrate, N-[3-(Dimethylamino)propyl] methacrylamide (DMAPMA) that is grafted on 2D …

Plasma-Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition Of Ruthenium-Titanium Nitride Mixed-Phase Layers For Direct-Plate Liner And Copper Diffusion Barrier Applications, Adam James Gildea Jan 2013

Plasma-Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition Of Ruthenium-Titanium Nitride Mixed-Phase Layers For Direct-Plate Liner And Copper Diffusion Barrier Applications, Adam James Gildea

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Current interconnect networks in semiconductor processing utilize a sputtered TaN diffusion barrier, Ta liner, and Cu seed to improve the adhesion, microstructure, and electromigration resistance of electrochemically deposited copper that fills interconnect wires and vias. However, as wire/via widths shrink due to device scaling, it becomes increasingly difficult to have the volume of a wire/via be occupied with ECD Cu which increases line resistance and increases the delay in signal propagation in IC chips. A single layer that could serve the purpose of a Cu diffusion barrier and ECD Cu adhesion promoter could allow ECD Cu to occupy a larger …

Ruco To Extend The Scalability Of Ultra-Thin Direct Plate Liners, Daniel Verne Greenslit Jan 2013

Ruco To Extend The Scalability Of Ultra-Thin Direct Plate Liners, Daniel Verne Greenslit

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

In traditional semiconductor technology a sputtered copper seed layer is used to improve the adhesion, microstucture, and electromigration characteristics of electrochemically deposited (ECD) copper. The seed layer is deposited on top of a Ta/TaN stack. The Ta layer acts as an adhesion and nucleation layer for the copper seed and the TaN serves as a diffusion barrier for the Cu. As the line widths continue to shrink, scaling each of these layers becomes more difficult. It would be advantageous for the interconnect to be composed of as much copper as possible, transitioning from the traditional liner seed stack to a …

Kernel Density Metric Learning, Yujie He, Wenlin Chen, Yixin Chen Jan 2013

Kernel Density Metric Learning, Yujie He, Wenlin Chen, Yixin Chen

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

This paper introduces a supervised metric learning algorithm, called kernel density metric learning (KDML), which is easy to use and provides nonlinear, probability-based distance measures. KDML constructs a direct nonlinear mapping from the original input space into a feature space based on kernel density estimation. The nonlinear mapping in KDML embodies established distance measures between probability density functions, and leads to correct classification on datasets for which linear metric learning methods would fail. Existing metric learning algorithms, such as large margin nearest neighbors (LMNN), can then be applied to the KDML features to learn a Mahalanobis distance. We also propose …

Parallel Real-Time Scheduling Of Dags, Abusayeed Saifullah, David Ferry, Jing Li, Kunal Agrawal, Chenyang Lu, Christopher Gill

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

Recently, multi-core processors have become mainstream in processor design. To take full advantage of multi-core processing, computation-intensive real-time systems must exploit intra-task parallelism. In this paper, we address the open problem of real-time scheduling for a general model of deterministic parallel tasks, where each task is represented as a directed acyclic graph (DAG) with nodes having arbitrary execution requirements. We prove processor-speed augmentation bounds for both preemptive and non-preemptive real-time scheduling for general DAG tasks on multi-core processors. We first decompose each DAG into sequential tasks with their own release times and deadlines. Then we prove that these decomposed tasks …

Simple Analytic Performance Models For Streaming Data Applications Deployed On Diverse Architectures, Jonathan C. Beard, Roger D. Chamberlain, Mark A. Franklin

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

Modern hardware is inherently heterogeneous. With heterogeneity comes multiple abstraction layers that hide underlying complex systems. While hidden, this complexity makes quantitative performance modeling a difficult task. Designers of high-performance streaming applications for heterogeneous systems must contend with unpredictable and often non-generalizable models to predict performance of a particular application and hardware mapping. This paper outlines a computationally simple approach that can be used to model the overall throughput and buffering needs of a streaming application on heterogeneous hardware. The model presented is based upon a hybrid maximum flow and decomposed discrete queueing model. The utility of the model is …

Optimal Thickness Distributions Of Aeroelastic Flapping Shells, Bret Stanford, Philip Beran Jan 2013

Optimal Thickness Distributions Of Aeroelastic Flapping Shells, Bret Stanford, Philip Beran

United States Air Force: Publications

The severe weight limitations of flapping wing micro air vehicles necessitates the use of thin flexible wings, which in turn requires an aeroelastic modeling tool for proper numerical characterization. Furthermore, due to the unconventional nature of these vehicles, wing design guidelines for thrust and/or power considerations are not generally available; numerical design optimization then becomes a valuable tool. This work couples a nonlinear shell model to an unsteady vortex lattice solver, and then computes analytical design gradients: the derivative of aerodynamic force/power quantities with respect to a large vector of thickness variables. Gradient-based optimization is then used to locate the …

Real-Time Multi-Core Virtual Machine Scheduling In Xen, Sisu Xi, Meng Xu, Chenyang Lu, Linh T.X. Phan, Christopher Gill, Olga Sokolsky, Insup Lee

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

Recent years have witnessed two major trends in the development of complex real-time systems. First, to reduce cost and enhance flexibility, multiple systems are sharing common computing platforms via virtualization technology, instead of being deployed separately on physically isolated hosts. Second, multicore processors are increasingly being used in real-time systems. The integration of real-time systems as virtual machines (VMs) atop common multicore platforms raises significant new research challenges in meeting the real-time performance requirements of multiple systems.
