The effective fracture toughness (EFT) of ZrB2-C ceramics with different engineered microarchitectures was numerically evaluated by phase-field modeling. To verify the model, fibrous monoliths (elongated hexagonal ZrB2-rich cells in a continuous C-rich matrix) with different volume fractions of a C-rich phase were considered. Architectures containing 10 and 30 vol% of C-rich phase showed EFT values about 42% more than that of pure ZrB2. Increasing the C-rich phase to 50 vol%, dropped toughness significantly, which is in agreement with the experimental results. This dissertation research focused on the synthesis and application of ceramic paste for high-temperature applications. An alumina paste material comprising aluminum dihydric phosphate and alumina powder was developed for high-temperature electronic packaging. Nano aluminum nitride and nano-silica powders were embedded to promote the paste curing process, limit the grain growth, and increase its bond shear strength. The chip-to-substrate bond strength was enhanced and met the MIL-STD requirements for die-attach assembly. Its encapsulation property was improved with fewer cracks compared to similar commercial ceramic encapsulants. The die-attach material and encapsulation properties tested at 500°C showed no defect or additional cracks. Thermal …

Carbon nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs) demonstrate remarkable electrical and mechanical properties, which suggest promising structural and functional applications as fillers for polymer nanocomposites.
The piezoresistive behavior of these nanocomposites makes them ideal for sensing applications. Besides, hybrid nanocomposites with multiple fillers like carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs) are known to exhibit improved electrical and mechanical performance when compared to mono-filler composites.

In this study a new technique is proposed for the determination of elastic-plastic stress-strain relations for isotropic materials using the force-displacement output from an instrumented indentation test, finite element simulation, and machine learning methods. This non-destructive testing methodology has promising potential for industry implementation. Applications to benefit from this method include the characterization of localized material properties on surface engineered components, and the post-manufacturing assessment of material properties for items such as additively manufactured metallic components and load-bearing welded joints.

Metal additive manufacturing is an enabling technology for the rapid prototyping and manufacturing of geometrically complex parts that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to manufacture. However, the manufacturing process can produce undesired residual stresses and distortions. The first part of the work describes the implementation of a multiscale, thermo-mechanical simulation modeling the metal powder bed fusion additive manufacturing process. Model 7000 series alloys with and without copper were fabricated into sheets to study precipitation hardening behavior under isothermal aging conditions. Samples of each alloy were subjected to 3 h annealing treatments at various temperatures to produce a range of precipitate size distributions. Hardness, electrical conductivity, and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) were used to characterize the aging behavior of the two alloys. Precipitate size distributions were modeled from the scattering curves for each annealing condition using a maximum entropy method (MEM) and compared to select transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results. This study was to investigate the formation and reformation of delayed cracks of SUS304 cylindrical drawn cups under elevated blank holding force (BHF) from 8~32 kN with 1~3 wt% SiO2 nanolubricants concentrations. The widest crack-free BHF range i.e. from 29 ~ 31 kN was determined for 2 wt% of SiO2 in the experiment. Delayed cracks were also observed below and beyond this BHF range. There was an increment of frictional force at the cup flange region when entering the crack-free BHF range, as proven by the rebound in sidewall thickness, relative intensity of α′-martensite, elongated height and drawing force beyond …

The purpose of this research was to determine the optimal technological parameters for the purification of extraction phosphoric acid based on phosphorites of Central Kyzylkum from fluorine by precipitation with sodium salts. The influence of the norm of sodium silicate and the total norm of sodium carbonate and sodium metasilicate salts on the chemical composition and degree of precipitation of sodium silicofluoride was research. The aim of the research was to determine the properties of loess clay in Kattabog deposit (Uzbekistan) to identify possible areas of use. Modern methods of physicochemical analysis are used: spectroscopic, x-ray phase, electron microscopic methods of analysis. The research results showed that the main phases of clay are hydromica, quartz, kaolinite, calcite and orthoclase. Based on the research, it can be stated that the clay of Kattabog deposit has good physical and technical properties and mineralogical composition, which is a valuable raw material for the production of various ceramics, bricks, tiles, majolica and other products.

The aim of the research is to determine the effect of alumina on the phase composition of shale of the Jerdanak deposit and the quartz-pyrophyllite rock of the Baynaksay deposit during high-temperature firing. X-ray phase analysis determined changes in the phase composition of rocks with additives from 5 to 20% aluminum oxide as a result of firing at 1300 and 1400 °C. A comparative analysis revealed the absence of cristobalite formation, a decrease in the quartz content, and an increase in the amount of mullite for shale samples. The synthesis of mixed ligand coordination compounds of copper, cobalt and nickel formates with formamide and urea in an aqueous solution was carried out. The metal content in the complexes was determined by complexometric titration. Using IR spectroscopy, it was proved that the coordination of formamide and urea with the complexing atom is carried out through the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group. The absorption spectrum of coordinated water is also present in the IR spectrum. With the aim of determination of electronic and geometrical structures of mixed-ligand complexes, theoretical modeling of the structures of coordination compounds of transition metals with dialkyldithiophosphate chelating ligands with aminobenzimidazoles carried out using quantum chemical methods. Using BIOVIA Materials Accelrys Studio 2017 software packages, the geometry, electron density distribution, and frontier orbitals calculated for the mixed ligand complexes of Au(III), Pt(II), Ag(I), Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(III), which are necessary for understanding the electronic structure of coordination compounds with chelating ligands.

Multilayered transparent conducting films based on ZnO: Ga were deposited onto glass substrate by DC magnetron sputtering technique. The films were prepared from alloy (Zn: Ga) and ceramic (ZnO: Ga) targets with gallium composition of 3 at% and 4 at%, respectively. Crystal structure and phase analysis were measured using X-ray diffractometer (XRD). The XRD structural analysis results indicated that all multilayered films were polycrystalline with (002) orientation slightly shifted of diffracting angles due to gallium dopant concentrations as increase in the deposition temperatures. Cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol (KA oil) obtained from highly selective oxidation of cyclohexane (CHA) show important industrial value and application prospects. In this work, the intermittent electrodeposition was developed to prepare nano-MnOx catalyst loading porous tubular titanium membrane electrode (MnOx/Ti), which was employed to constitute an electro-catalytic membrane reactor (ECMR) for the oxidation of cyclohexane to produce cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone. The surface morphology, crystal structure and electrochemical property of the catalysts were characterized by FESEM, XRD and electrochemical workstation, respectively. Acetoin (3-hydroxy-2-butanone) is an important food spice. As a platform compound, it is widely used in medicine, tobacco, cosmetics, chemical material and other industries. In this paper, α-hydroxylated acetal, an intermediate of acetoin, was prepared from 2-butanone by indirect electrooxidation in the plate and frame electrolytic cell, in which graphite plates were used as both an anode and a cathode, while KOH as an electrolyte and KI as a catalyst. In this paper, a recently developed single wire-electrode AC probe technology which does not need a reference or counter electrode was employed to investigate the electrochemical corrosion and sacrificial anode protection behaviors of steel and zinc in 3.5wt.% NaCl. With this simple, fast, reliable and stable probe, the instantaneous corrosion rate and accumulated corrosion loss of carbon steel in 3.5wt.% NaCl were measured, and the results revealed that both were greater than those of zinc.
