"The use of composite beams is very common in bridge and. in building construction due to the fact that a savings in material is effected.
The study herein shows a simplified procedure for design of composite beams. A number of design charts for rapid selection of a wide-flange section and the necessary cover plates are presented herein. These charts are based on economic sections of steel beams when used in a simple span, if one knows the approximate depth of the beam, slab thickness, allowable stresses in the steel and concrete and live load moment, it is very easy to …

"The ever increasing use of nonbiodegradable synthetic detergents, mainly the alkyl benzene sulfonates, has created difficulties in water and wastewater treatment, and in stream pollution. Although considerable attention has been given to this problem, no solution has been developed which can be effectively employed in the abatement of detergent pollution.
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the feasibility of the use of direct current electrochemical degradation in the removal of alkyl benzene sulfonates (ABS) from water. The rate and degree of completion of the electrochemical reactions were determined, and the nature of the end products formed was investigated. …

“The purpose of this thesis is to develop a method for determining the reactions and deflection curve of continuous beams partially supported by an elastic foundation. The method involves representation of an arbitrary loading and the intermediate redundant reactions as Fourier Series. Redundant intermediate reactions are determined by the solution of an equal number of linear equations. The remaining reactions are determined by the application of statics.
This same method can be used for simply supported beams on an elastic foundation and for continuous beams without an elastic foundation”--Abstract, page ii.

“This study is the report of an investigation to: Determine the engineering characteristics of Dent County, Missouri soils using a pedologic soil association map for areal extrapolation of soil test data; and, Evaluate the feasibility of determining the engineering characteristics of all Ozark Region soils by the same method.
During the course of the study, the geology and pedology of the county was investigated and a sampling and testing program formulated. Pedologic soil types in each soil association area were sampled, tested in the laboratory, and the results interpreted.
