Addressing Hpv And Hbv Immunizations In Pediatric Acute Sexual Assault Care, Katie A. Vandervelde
Addressing Hpv And Hbv Immunizations In Pediatric Acute Sexual Assault Care, Katie A. Vandervelde
Research Days
Problem Statement/Question: Victims of sexual assault are at increased risk for acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Human papillomavirus (HPV). These immunizations are not curative, but each are >95% effective at preventing infections by the included viruses. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that children who are victims of sexual abuse/assault, receive the HPV and HBV immunizations at the time of their initial medical evaluation for sexual abuse/assault. Knowing that child sexual assault victims are at increased risk for repeat assault, number of lifetime sex partners, and of being lostto-follow-up, in addition to …

Comparison Of Nasal Swab And Saliva Specimen For Detection Of Sars-Cov-2 In Children, Aaron Shaw
Research Days
Background: Stemming from the rapid need for COVID-19 testing when supplies were limited, we investigated alternate sample processing methods and sample types for SARS-CoV-2 detection. Respiratory specimen processing using an automated nucleic acid extraction system (easyMAG) provides highly quality of nucleic acid for amplification. Reagents and supplies for easyMAG were on short supply during the pandemic, so alternative sample processing methods were investigated. Due to COVID-19 quarantine and isolation, a home kit for specimen collection was desired, particularly one that was less invasive than nasopharyngeal swabs. We investigated the sensitivity and parent/ child satisfaction of home collection kits evaluating saliva …

Finding Reinforcers: Using Behavior Skills Training Over Telehealth To Instruct Educators To Perform Preference Assessments With Students., Anastasia Yuschak
Masters Theses, 2020-current
Future and current educators working with students in an early childhood education setting should use positive reinforcement for their students to increase behaviors. If proper assessment of student preferences is ignored reinforcers used in a classroom will prove to be insufficient. The present research sought to determine the feasibility of using behavioral skill training (BST) over a telehealth platform to teach paired stimulus preference assessments to educators. The feasibility of this platform is evident by the rapid skill acquisition and mastery of two preschool educators who accurately completed the component skill necessary to develop a preferential hierarchy. This paper will …

Conceptualizing Clinical Supervision In An Era Of Clinically-Based Teacher Education, Amy Bacevich
Northwest Journal of Teacher Education
This essay argues that robust fulfillment of the university clinical supervisor’s role is essential to realizing the promise of clinically-based teacher education. To that end, I present a model for clinically-based supervision. The model captures the complex relationships among clinical supervisor, teacher candidate, and the content of P-12 teaching, overlaid with clinically-based routines that give shape to those relationships, and situated within the multiple environments that both constrain and facilitate the supervisor’s work. This model can help the field to: focus on the goal of teacher candidates’ learning to see, navigate, and work constructively within P-12 teaching; examine the shape …

Investigating The Longer-Term Impact Of A Professional Development Program: A Five-Year Follow-Up Qualitative Study, Susan Kerwin-Boudreau
The Qualitative Report
Do changes in perspectives on teaching and learning that teachers experience in a professional development (PD) program persist over time? How might they evolve? In this article the author first summarizes the results of her original two-year qualitative study of Quebec CEGEP (college) teachers’ perspectives on teaching and learning within a PD program. She then describes the results of a follow-up qualitative study that she conducted with the same teachers five years later. Teacher interviews were coded using the constant comparative method (Maykut & Morehouse, 1994). Three major conceptual themes emerged: teachers reported engaging (outside of teaching), innovating (within teaching) …
