Objectives: Two sets of intercultural learning resources incorporating Global Englishes learning content were developed for self-access use in the higher education context. The resources were investigated in terms of student learning experiences across two contexts in Japan: an English language major program and a nonlanguage major program. The aim was to develop an understanding of student learning experiences to inform practical implications for self-access learning in these areas.

This article introduces a video-based pedagogical action research model for primary and secondary teachers. The video-based pedagogical action research model incorporates video as a self-reflective tool to provide opportunities for teachers to utilize concrete artifacts in each phase of the pedagogical action research process. Sixty-seven practicing teachers participated in this qualitative study. Teacher self-reflections completed during the evaluation phase of the process and school administrator surveys were analyzed to evaluate impact of participation in the process. Closing Reading Achievement Gaps For Middle School Students, Michael D. Daugherty

This research examined how self-efficacy, collective efficacy, and professional development compared between core content and special education middle school teachers working with middle school students in reading comprehension and fluency. Accordingly, no statistically significant difference in teacher self-efficacy between core content and special education teachers was discovered based on the ANOVA analysis results. An analysis of professional development and collective teacher efficacy showed mixed results with a negative relationship predicted between increased professional development hours for core content teachers. A predicted positive relationship existed with the number of professional development hours increasing for special education teachers. There was no statistically …

Statistics show that many pre-K–12 students in the United States are exposed to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) or potentially traumatic events (PTEs), and a growing body of literature points to these childhood experiences harming children’s academic functioning and future educational attainment. A review of the literature on trauma-informed education (i.e., curriculum and programs designed to mitigate the negative effects of trauma) highlights many teachers’ lack of confidence in combatting issues within student populations affected by adversity and trauma; the research also indicated that teachers with knowledge of trauma/adversity and its implications are crucial to effectively educating at-risk children and adolescents. …

It seeks to concretize methods of cultivating an environment that promotes high achievement among traditionally at-risk populations. This multilevel path analysis of data collected from the International Civic and Citizenship Study investigates how differing civic education experiences between girls and boys predict notions of citizenship across five Latin American countries. Findings show statistically significant differences by gender, in the perception of civic education. Generally, classroom activities including the value of civic learning in the classroom, willingness to participate in classroom activities, and an open classroom climate were positively related to notions of engagement, while student experience with abuse had a negative relationship. Additionally, evidence suggests that civic learning at school had a stronger impact on male students. …

Co-design is a collaborative approach that intertwines individuals' unique perspectives and results in a product that holds creative stake for all parties. In educational contexts, co-design often results in innovative interventions that in turn affect how teachers instruct and interact with their students in the classroom. In this paper, we focus on two teachers who co-designed a unit meant to engage students in theory-building practices. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, this graduate instructor leveraged the digital world to connect preservice elementary mathematics teachers (PSTs) to students to provide an online learning community. The PSTs applied our content and methods course to teaching online and learned valuable lessons from interacting with the students. It stems from the researcher’s study that explores teaching and learning in secondary school economics in Malta. The underlying conceptual framework for this study is critical realism, which offers an understanding of the world that is real but which may be differently experienced and interpreted by different observers (Alderson, 2021; Bhaskar, 1979; Fletcher, 2017).
