Efl Teachers’ Strategies In Motivating Low-Achieving Learners In Online Class, Zulkhoir Siregar, Johannes Ananto Prayogo, Utari Praba Astuti

This study attempts to investigate EFL teachers’ strategies in motivating low-achieving learners in online classes from the perspective of twenty-five English teachers and thirty low-achieving learners. The data were collected through a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The result of the study revealed that there were some foremost motivational teaching strategies applied by EFL teachers to deal with low-achieving learners during online classes; monitoring students’ activities, showing the importance of English, clarifying difficult topics, caring about students’ learning progress, and explaining topics clearly and specifically.

The objective of this research is to investigate variances in the patterns of the correlation between academic motivation, procrastination, and GPA among students from different universities in Surabaya. This research was conducted using a correlational method involving 1,060 students from four years: 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 (n respectively 209, 187, 232, 432). The sampling method was accidental random sampling from February to May 2021. The results showed that GPA, academic motivation, and procrastination fluctuated differently depending on the year of study. This present study seeks to discover emotional and intellectual intelligence influences on teachers’ performance in the learning-teaching processes. The method used in this study is Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using literature published between 2013 - 2022 accessed through Google Scholar. The study’s results indicate that emotional intelligence does not dominate in improving teachers’ performance in learning-teaching processes. Additionally, emotional intelligence and intellectual intelligence may or may not have an impact on teachers’ performance. In other words, factors besides intelligence can affect teachers’ performance in learning-teaching processes. As teacher education programs become increasingly organized around accreditation and licensure standards, finding opportunities to be responsive to teacher candidates' needs and interests has become more difficult. This paper traces the evolution of a professional learning community for secondary social studies teacher candidates as a key feature of one teacher education program and analyzes the collaborative projects designed for the purpose of developing horizontal expertise. We find that professional learning communities can serve as dynamic spaces to co-construct learning experiences with candidates in ways that prepare them for future professional learning as practicing social studies teachers.

This content activity shows how Robert Stahl’s negotiation activity approach can promote decision-making in the social studies classroom. The effects of the activity on students’ ability to replicate the actions of settlers taking the journey to the western territories in search of gold. Incorporating Robert Stahl’s four decision-making phases, students negotiate social, political, and economic issues associated with the mining town of Bodie, California. In doing so, students must, individually or in small groups, decide and prioritize a series of proposals to better the living conditions, economic struggles, and social problems that have plagued Bodie for some time.

This study was conducted in the context of a near-port community in which vehicular electrification efforts were occurring. Electric vehicles (EVs) and their associated infrastructures—including charging stations and wirelessly charging roads—may redress environmental injustices near inland ports because they significantly reduce vehicular emissions that harm human health. However, if the sociotechnical infrastructures associated with EVs are not intentionally planned to bring benefits to historically minoritized communities, they run the risk of reproducing interrelated transportation, economic, and environmental injustices. The present study explores the realization of speech acts in 80 Egyptian billboard advertisements from five different locations in Greater Cairo, in an attempt to identify the most dominant types of speech acts utilized in such billboard advertising. Further examination of the linguistic elements in advertisements is conducted to identify the most salient syntactic structures constructing them. Student Mistakes In Elite School Classrooms: Teacher Reflections And Reported Instructional Strategies, Maleka Donaldson

This article explores how teachers respond to student mistakes in one educational setting—an elite private high school. This qualitative study is a thematic analysis of in-depth, semi-structured interviews with teachers at one such school. The results reveal that in their responses to student mistakes, the teachers work to build trust and emotional safety, give students agency throughout the learning and feedback processes, and ask probing questions that rigorously challenge their thinking. By considering teacher accounts of their instructional approaches and past experiences, the study adds a context-specific, real-world perspective on how teachers in an elite school frame student mistakes.
