Mini-implant assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) is used to correct transverse maxillary deficiencies in orthodontics. While MARPE's influence on occlusal stability and maxillary expansion is recognized, its impact on facial aesthetics, soft tissue morphology, and nasal airway function requires further examination. Our study analyzed the changes in facial soft tissue and airway dimensions in patients undergoing MARPE treatment.

Tobacco use is one of the leading causes of premature death, disease and disability around the world. Six out of eight leading causes of death worldwide are attributed to the diseases related to tobacco use as a risk factor. Healthcare professionals rank high both in effectiveness and preference for providing tobacco cessation counselling. Surveys have found that 58% of smokers made regular appointments with their dentist. Cessation rates of up to 18% have been seen when dental professionals counselled their patients to quit tobacco. The study evaluated dental student’s views about tobacco cessation counselling and their skills as counsellors.

Nuclear chromatin patterns have been used historically to distinguish between different developmental stages and lineages of white blood cells. While it is common to characterize cells based on arbitrary ‘open’ or ‘closed’ chromatin patterns, quantification of chromatin data is lacking. By extracting nuclei from a database of white blood cells and running fractal analyses using TWOMBLI, we were able to produce meaningful data quantifying chromatin patterns. Our data were put through a random forest algorithm which grouped each point based on relationship probability. Delirium frequently occurs in severely ill adults, leading to worse outcomes and increased duration of intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital stays, along with higher associated expenses. The 2018 clinical practice guidelines for Pain, Agitation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption (PADIS) recommend that all adult ICU patients be regularly assessed for delirium. At Valley Hospital Medical Center, the utilization of Confusion Assessment Method for the ICU (CAM-ICU) for monitoring delirium is infrequent, typically taking place either after the adjustment of sedatives or in response to nursing reports of positive neurologic assessments indicating signs of delirium.

Its etiological agent is the protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis, against which first-line antiparasitics usually work. However, resistance is on the rise. Trich has traditionally been considered a nuisance infection, with many (particularly AMAB patients) being asymptomatic. But research in recent years has begun to unravel correlations of trichomonal infections with a myriad of comorbitidies, including infertility, cancers, the pathogenesis of AIDS, and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). This study evaluated the durability and retention of nine porcelain fused to zirconia wing bridges with the addition of counter sunk holes in the wings. Prior to this clinical trial, preliminary in-vitro testing of bridges with porcelain fused zirconia was performed. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the marginal fit of presintered cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) and zirconia 3-unit fixed partial dentures by using X-ray microcomputed tomography (mCT).

This paper explores the intersections of using autobiographical (currere) writing and mindful meditations as two forms of contemplative practices in teacher education, from the perspectives of both a secondary classroom teacher and a teacher educator. An experientially-based conceptual inquiry, it is contextualized through first-person autobiographical narrations reconstructed from the authors’ currere writings and mindfulness practices, in order to draw connections between both through the theme of making room for breathing. The HIPPO signaling pathway plays a key role in cell proliferation and tumor suppression. It consists of serine/threonine kinase cascades, including MST1/2, LATS1/2, YAP, and TAZ. When the HIPPO pathway is activated, gene expression is altered. Dysfunction of the activity of this cascade may contribute to cancer development and chemoresistance. FAT4 is an intracellular protein that may regulate the HIPPO signaling. The purpose of this study is to determine the relative changes of mRNA of the HIPPO pathway members and FAT4 in doxorubicin-treated and vehicle-treated in vitro cell lines.

Lecturers’ engagement in professional development activities to enhance their academic practice is firmly embedded within the landscape of higher education. Although enhancing the student learning experience underpins teaching-related continuing professional development (CPD), interestingly the role of students in supporting such activities has been underexplored. Drawing on data captured from eight student representatives interviewed in the context of an international impact evaluation, we examine student awareness of, and attitudes towards, lecturers’ CPD. Computer-assisted language learning (CALL) can create participatory cultures by removing barriers to access materials, encouraging student modes of expression, differentiating student interactions through digital environments and increasing learner autonomy. Participatory cultures require competencies or new media literacy (NML) skills to be successful in a digital world. However, professional development (PD) often lacks training on CALL and its implementation to develop such skills.
