The present research was the third in a series of studies exploring the relationship between the socialization of professionals and the characteristics of organizations in which professionals practice (Pohland and Albert, 1973; Albert and Pohland, 1973). This particular investigation sought to identify factors which influence professionals, in this case psychiatrists, to continue their affiliation with or separate from for al organizations. Non-participant observation (Pohland, 1972) was utilized in order to generate hypotheses. Comparative data were collected at two medical settings which provided emergency inpatient psychiatric care, Mountainview Hospital and Rio Grande Inpatient Unit. The purpose of this study was (1) to use two techniques to compare readability level of intermediate grade social studies textbooks and developmental reading textbooks, and (2) to provide educators and publishers with information into the demands that these textbooks make upon the student’s ability to read.

The books from nine publishers who are listed on the State Adopted Textbooks list under both social studies and reading areas; five publishers who deal exclusively with social studies; and five publishers who deal exclusively with reading were included in this study. Three issues growing out of the Freudian paradigm repeatedly have been raised in connection with the history of the female sex role: (1) Freud's neglect of the existence of the mother goddesses, (2) his downplaying of the cultural stage of the matriarchy, and (3) the effect of these two issues on the potential for a good outcome in psycho-analytic therapy for women. The purpose of this study was to determine what changes in student teacher dogmatism and attitudes occurred during the student teaching experience as a function of the supervising teacher's dogmatism and attitudes as measured by the Rokeach Dogmatism Scale and the Minnesota Teacher Attitude Inventory.

The population for this study consisted of all students enrolled in education courses during the spring semester of 1974 who had not had field work in the public schools and all Secondary Education students enrolled in student teaching and their supervising teachers. The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyzes selected teacher and student variables pertaining to personal and background characteristics, perceptions, prefer­ences and achievement.

The study sample consisted of social studies teachers and their classes in 34 New Mexico rural or small-town schools. Most of t􀀏e selected schools have a relatively high enrollment of minority group, low socioeconomic status (SES) students. Subjects are 60 teachers and 1255 students, representing approximately one-fifth of the senior high population of the participating schools.

Th~ proactive interference (PI) release procedure was used in two experiments to assess encoding, differential encoding, and the relative: dominance of encoding attributes in children's short-term memory. The procedure consisted of Ss receiving a series of memory tests, each of which involved the recall of a triad of auditorily-presented words after a 14 second retention interval. The Ss in the experimental groups received four successive recall tests with triads of words which were homogeneous with respect to a given attribute. The purpose of this study was to develop a theoretical model for classifying dialectal variations of Spanish spoken in northern New Mexico, U.S.A. The model would classify dialectal variations in the areas of phonology, morphology and vocabulary. The design of this study included the development of a theoretical model based on field and documented research and validation by expert opinion. The theoretical model developed classified dialectal variations of oral New Mexican Spanish in unaccented vowels, diphthongs, consonants, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, gender, number, prepositions, pronouns, verbs and vocabulary. This is a study of the acquisition by children of one aspect of communicative competence, the ability to decide that certain kinds of language are more appropriate to speakers of one sex than the other. It was first established that adults had such competence, and then shown how children came to approximate it. The study used as subjects 122 white, native English speaking adults and 122 children in first, third, and sixth grades, from a middle class Albuquerque neighborhood. Can present screening measures successfully differentiate between children with high and low predispositions to fantasy in this particular population? If so, will the two groups respond differently to toys which vary on the basis of their form and structure, and will the groups differ on certain other behavioral correlates of fantasy such as persistence, originality of story themes and flexibility? One of the first tasks of mothering is the feeding of the child. It is recognized that certain mothers have difficulty carrying out this function. If the mother has extreme difficulty with this task, her child is at risk for neurologic and the subsequent educational problems.

This study looked at the amount of stress in the mother in the year preceding delivery to the rate of weight gain in her child.
