The problem for this study was that K-5 teachers in a northeastern school district were challenged to implement culturally responsive teaching (CRT) practices in mathematics instruction. The purpose of this study was to explore K–5 teachers' perceptions about the challenges of using CRT practices in mathematics with culturally diverse students and to identify teacher suggestions for needed resources and training. The primary purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the Algebra I and Algebra II mathematics course curriculum documents at a local high school to determine alignment to the mathematics section of the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) and to identify content necessary for students to demonstrate college readiness in mathematics on the TSIA. Since 2016, third to fifth-grade students at a Title I elementary school have not met adequate yearly progress because 70% of students have not scored proficient on the end-of-grade mathematics assessment. A pilot study conducted in the pre-service teacher (PST) physics classroom at Missouri State University sought to validate a tool for learning. A writing treatment, in which students were asked to participate in reflective freewriting exercises over the course of the semester was administered to one lab group. The Physics Attitude Scale was used to determine whether a positive impact was made on pre-service teacher attitudes about physics and teaching physics. The traditional grading method that utilizes partial credit often falls short of effectively measuring students’ mastery of course material. To address this issue, this study explores the implementation of mastery grading, designed and enacted by the instructor in an introduction-to-proof course. The mastery grading conducted utilized a revision assessment together with an oral follow-up assessment as a mode of reassessing students’ mastery. This research investigated what motivated and sustained the involvement of 376 students in culturally relevant, afterschool STEM clubs at four rural, under-resourced schools. A longitudinal, convergent parallel mixed methods research design was used to investigate participants’ participation in and perceptions of the clubs, their motivations to attend, and their future goals, over three years. Situated Expectancy-Value Theory (SEVT) served as a guiding theoretical and analytical framework. Overall, students who attended the clubs were African American (55%), female (56%), and 6th graders (42%), attended approximately half of the clubs (43%), and agreed with quality measures on the STEM Club Survey (M …

A troubling shortage of K-12 Science, Technology, Engineer and Mathematics (STEM) teachers exists in the United States. One solution to increase STEM teachers involves recruiting STEM professionals to transition from industry to K-12 teaching. Research indicates that fostering resilience is one way to help new STEM teachers’ retention and persistence in the field. This study explored individual and programmatic factors that increase early career and early second career K-12 STEM teachers’ resilience. Girls and women face persistent negative stereotyping within STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). This field intervention was designed to improve boys' perceptions of girls' STEM ability. Boys (N = 667; mostly White and East Asian) aged 9-15 years in Canadian STEM summer camps (2017-2019) had an intervention or control conversation with trained camp staff. The intervention was a multi-stage persuasive appeal: a values affirmation, an illustration of girls' ability in STEM, a personalized anecdote, and reflection. Previously, we demonstrated an electronic circuit analogue of one of Special Relativity's (SR) phenomena called the Relativistic Aberration of Light (RAL) (European Journal of Physics, 42, 015605, 2021), which describes the change in the angle an observer sees a light source relative to their direction of motion at relativistic speeds. It used typical bulky laboratory equipment such as (i) function generators, (ii) oscilloscopes, and (iii) power supplies together with our all-pass filter (APF)-based electronic circuit analogue to perform experiments. The goal was to prepare students for their mathematics course, by offering non-credit bearing and free preparatory workshops. The lack of adequate preparation for mathematics courses is a barrier for student engagement in future STEM courses. A hybrid mixed methods research design, with both embedded and explanatory sequential components, was employed. Quantitative results are based on survey responses from 94 seventh grade students. การวิจัยนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงทดลองเบื้องต้นที่มีการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลเชิงคุณภาพร่วมด้วย มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ (1) เปรียบเทียบคะแนนความสามารถในการให้เหตุผลเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์ของนักเรียนหลังได้รับการจัดการเรียนรู้เคมีเน้นแบบจำลองเทียบกับเกณฑ์ และ (2) ศึกษาการเปลี่ยนแปลงความสามารถในการให้เหตุผลเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์ระหว่างจัดการเรียนรู้ กลุ่มเป้าหมายคือ นักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 5 จำนวน 39 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้เคมีเน้นแบบจำลองและแบบวัดความสามารถในการให้เหตุผลเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์ นอกจากนี้ยังวิเคราะห์การเปลี่ยนแปลงการให้เหตุผลเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์ระหว่างจัดการเรียนรู้จากแบบบันทึกกิจกรรม ผลการวิจัยพบว่า หลังได้รับการจัดการเรียนรู้เคมีเน้นแบบจำลอง นักเรียนส่วนใหญ่มีความสามารถในการให้เหตุผลเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์อยู่ในระดับค่อนข้างสูง มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยเท่ากับ 44.74 คะแนน (ร้อยละ 71.02) แต่ไม่สูงกว่าเกณฑ์ที่กำหนดไว้ร้อยละ 69 อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 โดยองค์ประกอบที่มีคะแนนเฉลี่ยสูงที่สุด ได้แก่ การสร้างสมมติฐาน และการประเมินหลักฐาน ตามลำดับ และระหว่างจัดการเรียนรู้เคมีเน้นแบบจำลอง นักเรียนกลุ่มคะแนนสูง กลุ่มค่อนข้างสูง และกลุ่มปานกลาง เริ่มพบการเปลี่ยนแปลงการให้เหตุผลเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์ดีขึ้นอย่างมีพัฒนาการในการจัดการเรียนรู้ครั้งที่ 2 4 และ 5 ตามลำดับ นักเรียนส่วนใหญ่ใช้องค์ประกอบการให้เหตุผลเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์ ได้แก่ การประเมินหลักฐาน การสร้างข้อสรุป และการสื่อสารและกลั่นกรอง ผ่านกระบวนการสร้างแบบจำลอง และสะท้อนความคิดเห็นต่อกระบวนการการสร้างแบบจำลองไปในทิศทางที่ดี

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) เปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ของนักเรียนที่ได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้คณิตศาสตร์โดยใช้โมเดล MEAs ระหว่างก่อนเรียนและหลังเรียน 2. เปรียบเทียบความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ของนักเรียนที่ได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้คณิตศาสตร์โดยใช้โมเดล MEAs ระหว่างหลังเรียนกับเกณฑ์ร้อยละ 60 ของคะแนนเต็ม และ 3) เพื่อศึกษาการปลี่ยนแปลงของความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ของนักเรียนที่ได้รับการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้คณิตศาสตร์โดยใช้โมเดล MEAs ในช่วงก่อนเรียน ระหว่างเรียน และหลังเรียน กลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 โรงเรียนขนาดใหญ่แห่งหนึ่งในจังหวัดเชียงราย จำนวน 33 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย คือ แผนการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้คณิตศาสตร์ จำนวน 14 แผน แบบวัดความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ฉบับก่อนเรียนและฉบับหลังเรียน วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้ค่าเฉลี่ยเลขคณิต ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน ร้อยละ และการทดสอบค่าที ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) นักเรียนมีความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์หลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.5 ทั้งในภาพรวมและรายลักษณะ 2) นักเรียนมีความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์หลังเรียนสูงกว่าเกณฑ์ร้อยละ 60 ของคะแนนเต็มอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ .05 ในภาพรวม ลักษณะการจำแนก ลักษณะการพิจารณาความสัมพันธ์ และลักษณะการตรวจสอบ ส่วนลักษณะการลงข้อสรุปและลักษณะการนำไปใช้ นักเรียนมีความสามารถในการคิดวิเคราะห์ สูงกว่าเกณฑ์ร้อยละ 60 ของคะแนนเต็มอย่างไม่มีนัยสำคัญ และ 3) นักเรียนส่วนใหญ่สามารถจำแนกข้อมูล พิจารณาความสัมพันธ์ ตรวจสอบความสอดคล้องความสมเหตุสมผล การลงข้อสรุป และการนำความรู้หลักการไปใช้ ของสถานการณ์ที่กำหนดให้ได้
