Toward A Concise Definition And Perspective For Biology, Arthur V. Brown, Kristine Basinger Brown
Toward A Concise Definition And Perspective For Biology, Arthur V. Brown, Kristine Basinger Brown
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
The content of introductory biology courses at the high school and college levels are currently being re-examined. Many biological educators favor revision of the high school biology courses to a format that directly addresses current social issues to "promote good citizenship". We believe it would be more meaningful to teach the fundamental principles of biology, the study of living systems. Properly defining biology, by defining a living system, should help identify important topics to include in a basic biology course. Emphasis should be placed on subjects which would contribute most to the development of a basic understanding of how all …

Concept And Scope Of Aerospace Education, Merridee L. Matson
All Graduate Projects
A teacher's guide, answering frequently asked questions about aerospace education, was developed to enhance a teacher's ability to study and describe the concept and scope of aerospace education. The questions determined the components of an aerospace education taxonomy. A major category of components included history, concept, reasons, resources·, methods, and people. Five additional categories were suggested. Major aerospace education publications from 1903 to 1983 were reviewed. A selection of documents best describing the concept component were included in the project.

Evidence From Science And Tradition Supporting A Two-Model (Evolution/Creation) Approach To Teaching The Origin Of Life, Robert P. Gardner
Evidence From Science And Tradition Supporting A Two-Model (Evolution/Creation) Approach To Teaching The Origin Of Life, Robert P. Gardner
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
This study gathered material presenting flood traditions in agreement with data concerning models of origins, selected material for supplementing classroom materials, and determined public opinion as how the subject of origins should be taught in public schools. Surveys recommend a two-model (evolution/creation) approach be taught within scientific limitations in public schools. Materials are available to promote this approach legally, fairly, and scientifically. Because of the evolution model's inadequacies, a reinterpretation of equivalent data allowing for catastrophic universal flood concepts is needed. Part of this reinterpretation may be supplied by the canopy model, as well as the many worldwide flood traditions. …

The Planet Puzzle (Lesson #2), Robert G. Fuller
The Planet Puzzle (Lesson #2), Robert G. Fuller
ADAPT Lessons: Physics
Students were asked to categorize 13 previously collected samples into 4 groups. Ideas on what properties should be used to categorize the samples were left open to the students. It was found that properties dependent upon the method of collection would make more than 4 groups, therefore properties dependent only upon the material were used in the categorization. The central idea of this activity is to confront the student with the requirement to quantify his concrete experience with materials of different densities. Density, since it involves ratios, requires formal operations. This experiment begins with a task that will hopefully induce …
