Community colleges in California are the primary source for preparing the early childhood care and education (ECE) workforce. The California child development lab school mission is to prepare ECE practitioners, provide a laboratory where college students can study and research child development/education, and offer a service to children and families. There are many benefits that are derived from laboratory schools but many community college lab schools have been reduced and/or closed over the past three years. At the risk of opening with a cliché statement- at the heart of the most effective mentor is a burning passion. The fuel for this passion is a desire to convince, not just try to, but actually convince your mentee that you care about their success (be it in the classroom, career, or personal life). One of the major purposes of education policy is to ensure social justice in a society. The social justice needs to be thought of not only in conventional sense of ‘distributional’ justice, but also in the sense of ‘relational’ justice. Looking from this perspective the policies in Pakistan have historically focused only on distributional justice, albeit with dismal progress on this front. However, they have completely ignored the attainment of ‘relational’ justice as a policy objective. Editors of scholarly journals increasingly use web-based peer review and tracking systems to offer enhanced speed, communication, automation and a complete record of submissions and peer review history. Such digital tools are likely to increase frequency of revisions and ultimately lead to a higher quality published article. However, with the larger and ever more dispersed reviewer pool that is facilitated by web-based systems, there is less reliance on elite reviewers. Therefore, there is more pressure on editors to assign manuscripts for review appropriately due to more peer reviewers, academic globalization, and the inherent depersonalization of the digital editorial assistant.

The overall goal of this article is to provide concrete suggestions for how law schools can improve teaching and enrich law student learning. In doing so, it reviews and analyzes the data collected from two national surveys about the kinds of faculty development activities that are most effective in improving law professors’ teaching. One survey was designed to quantify how many law teachers engaged in twenty-two types of teaching development activities over the previous five years and to assess the effectiveness of each of those activities. Due to changes in the academic market, faculty job satisfaction is especially critical. Using a multi-step framework, this study explores the role of family and stress related “pull factors” on a measure of overall job satisfaction for a large nationally representative sample of college and university faculty members. These “pull factors” include, but are not limited to, care for a child, spouse or elder, as well as other responsibilities and duties not directly related to one’s academic career.
