The purpose of the project was to apply a specified training program and test its results with eight pupils who constituted a class for trainable mentally retarded children. The children were placed in the group on the basis of evaluation by a school psychologist. The training program was the Social Education First Aid (SEFA) program (Gunzburg, 1964). Additional concrete materials were used to supplement the SEFA material. The children's growth in the following areas of social competence was evaluated: self-help, communication, socialization, and occupation.

Historically, the approach to teaching the special education child, who has learning difficulties, has been one of following the regular course of study but going more slowly than with the academically able student. However, junior high school special education students need to be motivated by techniques that go beyond existing methods. A case study of one student who failed to pass the reading portion of the teacher education test at Central Washington State College was the investigation of this paper. The purpose of this study was to present the case study as a technique in diagnosing the reading disabilities of the individual and using the diagnosis as the basis for prescription and implementation of corrective procedures. This investigation was also conducted to serve as a single depth study upon which future case studies at the college level could be based.

It was the purpose of this study to determine statistically the effect of an Exer-Genie isometric-isotonic conditioning program on the jumping ability and cardiovascular fitness of junior high school athletes, as compared to a group of junior high school athletes involved in a routine conditioning program using calisthenics. The Sargent Jump Test was used to determine jumping ability and the Cameron Heartometer was used to determine cardiovascular fitness. Each group was compared in view of time spent on conditioning.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the reactions of a seventh grade social studies class to public recording and candy when presented in conjunction with the standard classroom reinforcer of grades. It was hoped that this investigation would provide evidence that methods in the field of operant behavior are effective in standard classrooms and not just "special" classrooms.

The purpose of this study was to provide formal research evidence as to the effectiveness of the remedial tutorial program with one child who had been diagnosed as a disabled reader. The student had been functioning as a slow learner in the classroom. More specifically, an attempt was made to verify or reject the hypothesis that improvement of the subject's reading ability would result in an enhancement of his self-image. A second hypothesis was to determine if the regular classroom work would profit by this improved self-image.

The purpose of this study was to: (1) determine what patterns of selection occurred when children chose their curricular areas at times they preferred within the school day; (2) determine what proportion of time children with academic deficiencies (identified by their pre-summer session teachers) spent in the curricular area of their deficiency; (3) present the attitudes (as revealed through a questionnaire study} of parents whose children attended a summer school using a self-determining curriculum, and (4) present the attitudes and preferences (as revealed through personal interviews) of children who attended a summer school using a self-determining curriculum.

It was the purpose of this study: (1) to determine if the SQ3R technique could be used successfully with content and reading material at the seventh grade level; (2) to present a program to seventh grade students at Okanogan Junior High to determine the effect of the SQ3R method on improving comprehension as measured by the Diagnostic Reading Tests; and (3) to determine if the study methods learned could be transferred to a content area.
