I have attended and been involved in dozens of annual meetings and conferences across the United States over the past decade. My experiences at these events, I am certain, are likely to be very similar to those of most readers. At these conferences the basic format involves a large number of people coming together to presumably learn something new, to interact with colleagues, to network and meet new colleagues within the context of bringing what is learned back ones institution.

The purpose of the study was to determine the influence of simulation on technical college auto-mechanics trade students’ academic achievement in Lagos State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study sought to determine whether: (1) There is any significant difference in the mean achievement scores of auto-mechanics students taught using simulation method and those taught using lecture method. (2) There is any significant difference in the mean achievement scores of high ability and low ability auto-mechanics students taught using simulation method.

Nigeria has over 75 universities as at 2005 (Adedipe, 2005), about 41 polytechnics and 62 colleges of education as at 1998 (UNESCO, 2000a). In less than 50 years of tertiary education in Nigeria, the enrolment which was 210 in 1948 increased to 392,683 in 1996 (UNESCO, 2000a:87). As at 2005 Nigeria had 23 private universities. This estimates to roughly 3 million children who are of higher academic achievability than average students. While intelligent Quotient (IQ) has long been used as a predictor of student success, as the world enters the 21st century, research shows that Emotional intelligence (EI) is a better predictor of success than the more traditional measures of cognitive intelligence (Goleman, 1995). Education Doctorate Faculty Works

This paper reports the results of focus group conversations with thirty-four doctoral students enrolled in an educational leadership program. Doctoral students were asked to provide suggestions and strategies used to complete the doctoral dissertation. The results of these conversations reinforce the value of the collaborative cohort and the proactive interdependence students experienced as a result of working together. These findings highlight the need to examine how doctoral students experience the university context particularly as it relates to the dissertation phase of study.
