During this study, the researcher conducted research and developed a Teacher Evaluation Instrument to be used to evaluate adult education teachers in Arkansas. After developing the instrument, a group of professional educators and teachers were surveyed to determine if the instrument is functional to use as a teacher evaluation tool in the Arkansas Department of Career Education, Adult Education Division. This study examined the effects of bullying on the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students age 18 to 25 who attended high schools in Shelby County, Tennessee. A qualitative research method was utilized to examine and determine the perception of fifty-three lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered youth homophobic experiences while attending high school. Colleges and Universities in Arkansas are concerned about retention and graduation rates due to an interest in improving degree attainment. Over half of students entering higher education in Arkansas require remedial coursework, and mathematics is the subject area most commonly needing remediation. Arkansas Colleges and Universities perform below the national average in first to second year retention rates, and the problem is greatest at the two-year college level. This study conducted comparison analyses in a range of academic achievement and attainment levels between students enrolled in selected KIPP charter high schools and a matched group of peers enrolled in geographically and demographically similar traditional public schools in Texas. The purpose of the study was two-fold: (a) to analyze the historical pattern of substance or weapon abuse incidents by students with different types of disabilities from 2001 to 2011 using the Data Accountability Center data sets (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Data, 2013) and the information from the National Center for Education Statistics about the number of students with disabilities receiving special education services under IDEA (2013) (http://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=64); and (b) to explore underlying causes of substance abuse or weapons offence incidents. This study examined associations between Asian international students' perceived quality of contact with faculty, administrative personnel and other students, and self-reported gains in areas identified in College Students Experience Questionnaire. The sample included 705 Asian students from 25 research universities across the United States. Of 705 Asian international students, 390 were from East Asia, 219 from South and Central Asia, and 96 from Southeast Asia. Results indicated that Asian international students' relationships with peers were positively associated with all five domains of gains of learning (i.e., personal development, science and technology, general education, vocational preparation, and intellectual skills). This study investigated middle school students' perceptions of their classroom learning environment in National Board Certified Teachers' and Non-National Board Certified Teachers' classrooms. The instrument chosen to conduct this study was a questionnaire inventory, What is Happening in this Class. The participants were selected from rural middle schools in north Mississippi. National and Non-National Board Certified Teachers' were matched at every school by grade level. The teachers' students were asked to respond to a 56 question survey utilizing a Likert scale. The purpose of this study was to explore the extent to which the mission of preparing teachers to teach for social justice is operationalized within the methods courses in teacher preparation programs that assert a social justice mission. A qualitative content analysis was conducted of course syllabi for English/Language Arts courses, using a constant comparative process of coding in terms of 1) degree of social justice focus, and 2) Instructor's perception of social justice education. Approximately half of students at the community college level leave the institution before degree completion. Community college students are more likely than four-year students to be first-generation students, attend school part-time, be less prepared academically, work full-time, have family responsibilities, and have entered college later in life (Cohen & Brawer, 2008). These students are also more likely to be disconnected from the community college due to external obligations. The purpose of this study was to discover any statistically significant differences between students who engage in leadership experiences, at various levels, during their first semester as a student at Arkansas State University-Beebe. The Student Leadership Practices Inventory - Self (SLPI-Self) was used in a pre-test/post-test design to discover any growth in leadership practices students gained during their first semester (Kouzes & Posner, 2009). This dissertation examined the incorporation of evidence-based practice into undergraduate athletic training education and its effects on the Board of Certification Examination scores for first-time candidates. A secondary purpose examined various demographic factors and their relation to the Board of Certification Examination. One hundred twenty-four program directors completed the questionnaire that assessed the amount of exposure to evidence-based practice undergraduate athletic training students have obtained in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings. The results found that evidence-based practice was broadly used in all three of the educational settings, and no statistical significance was found to support that more exposure to …

Higher education administrators should be accountable to students, legislators and taxpayers for the tuition rates they set and the product they produce. Therefore, an understanding of the dynamics that affect higher education finance and its structure is important. Institutions of higher education have three broad categories for the classification of funds: auxiliary enterprises, educational and general, and grants. This study concentrated on one of those classifications, auxiliary enterprises. There are changing conditions in the operating environment for auxiliary enterprises. A study was conducted to determine the extent to which high school and college/university Advanced Placement English Language and Composition readers value and implement the curricular requirements of Advanced Placement English Language and Composition. The participants were 158 readers of the 2010 Advanced Placement English Language and Composition exam who responded to a 50 question survey utilizing a Likert scale. High school teacher readers tend to value the APELC curricular requirements significantly more than do college/university composition instructor readers. The mean-of-means for high school teacher readers was 3.41, while for college/university readers, the mean-of-means was 3.17. These means suggest that …

Laser-like attention has been focused on training principals since the passing of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in 2001, which emphasized student achievement. This dissertation examined the perceptions of principals on how their leadership preparation programs helped them develop the skills necessary to be competent and ultimately successful in their jobs. Every institution of higher education in the United States must, in order to award degrees and financial aid, be recognized by an accrediting organization under the guidelines and oversight of the US Department of Education. This process of recognition is known as accreditation. The current procedure of accreditation involves revisits every ten years. This ten-year methodology was recently under review by the Higher Learning Commission and changes were made which resulted in the abbreviation of this time span. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between secondary principal leadership style and Hispanic student achievement. Student achievement was measured by the graduation rate for each school. The principals' leadership styles were defined by scores in the Leadership Orientations Profile. The online survey was sent to 549 potential participants with 105 responses. Four types of schools were included in the data: public, alternative, charter, and continuation. Sixty-three percent of the public high school principals were male. Eighty percent of the non-public school principals were female. Most of the principals in the study had eight or less years …

This study explored the perceived value of reflective thinking by preservice teachers and new teachers in Missouri. Surveys were randomly distributed to 1200 preservice teachers who attended NCATE (2008) universities in Missouri and to 1200 new teachers who taught in accredited private or public schools in Missouri. A total of 261 (22 percent) preservice teachers and a total of 345 (29 percent) new teachers participated in the study. The preservice teachers who were surveyed attended NCATE (2008) universities and the new teachers were teachers who had taught three years or less in accredited private or public schools in Missouri.
