Reimagining Early Childhood Classrooms As Sites Of Love: Humanizing Black Boys Through Head Rubs And “ Playin’ The Dozens ”, Nicole M. Madu

Black boys in American schools are often subjected to crisis narratives that negatively impact teacher-student relationships. However, two Black male early childhood teachers in New York City have reimagined teacher-student relationships which can be used to inform the future education of Black boys post-pandemic. Central to their reframing of teacher-student relationships between Black male teachers and Black boys is a focus on the importance of nurturing social and emotional health. This manuscript highlights how these two Black male teachers foster positive relationships with their young Black boys, empowering Black boys to see themselves as capable learners.

The present study used the mixed item response theory (IRT) model to identify qualitatively distinct subgroups of sixth-grade students with respect to their performance on word problems on speed. A total of 345 Singaporean students and 361 Chinese students took a problem-solving test on speed. The mixed IRT analysis revealed two latent classes — the algebra proficient group and the algebra novice group. The algebra proficient group was more likely to use traditional algebraic and arithmetic strategies to solve the problems, whereas the algebra novice group was more likely to use model drawing, unitary, and guess-and-check strategies, in addition to …

The purpose of this study was to identify which course design elements students perceive as supporting an easier transition to emergency remote teaching due to COVID-19, as well as to use those items to develop the Online Supportive Course Design (OSCD) measure. By asking students to rate their course with the easiest transition and hardest transition to emergency remote teaching, this study identified which structural elements were most important for supporting students during the transition. Body composition of collegiate swimmers has been extensively studied; however, there are limited reports of body composition among Masters swimmers. This study compared the accuracy of air displacement plethysmography (ADP) and bioelectrical impedance (BIA) to the gold standard method of underwater weighing (UWW) in Masters level swimmers. The relationship between percent body fat (%BF) and body mass index (BMI) was also assessed. Recruitment (n = 6 females, 11 males) occurred at two Masters swim clubs. Pearson correlation coefficients revealed no significant differences between ADP, BIA, and UWW (p > 0.05). For both female and male Masters swimmers, the mean %BF …

The acceptance of CBT before COVID-19 varied significantly among stakeholders. Considering the closure of schools, governments resorting to radio lessons to keep students educated, and the need to safely assess learning, the study seeks to ascertain the status of stakeholders’ perception on CBT for assessing radio Biology lessons. This study employed a qualitative case study approach to explore the perceptions of teachers/staff members directly associated with the therapy dog (TD) program in their school.
