A Comparison Of Teachers' Marks In One-Room & Two-Room Schools With Those In The Seventh, Eighth & Ninth Grades In Larger Schools, Orbrie Morris
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
In this study the records examined showed that the per capita cost of instruction in the one-room and the two-room schools varied from three to six times that of the larger schools. The one-room school is the most expensive means of education, yet it offers far fewer advantages and opportunities. The decline in the number of these schools has been in progress for a number of years. This has been true in the rural sections that have a larger number of improved roads. The lack of sufficient roads has seemed to be the greatest obstacle in the consolidation of schools. …

World History, "What's It All About.", Harold E. Barto
World History, "What's It All About.", Harold E. Barto
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies
Opinion seems to be well divided as to the shortcomings of World History. Some believe that it is a mistake to attempt to cover so much history in the time allotted. Others contend that poor teaching is the greatest obstacle. Obviously, both views have some merit. However, there is another reason that is not generally given that may come nearer reaching the source of the trouble. It may be that the starting point in World History is too far removed from the student's interest.

The Financing Of Education In Homestead Areas, Lester Turnbaugh
The Financing Of Education In Homestead Areas, Lester Turnbaugh
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Some explanation is necessary of the method of procedure in compiling material for this thesis. The first step was really taken seven years ago. At that time the writer interviewed state officials at Sacramento, California, in the hope of obtaining state aid for educational finance in the Tule Lake section of the Klamath Irrigation Project. The Governor, the department of education, and the finance department were all consulted, but no legal way was discovered of using state money for the erection of school buildings in the district mentioned. Some county money was available for payment of teachers’ salary, but none …

New Forms Of Report Cards, Amanda Katherine Hebeler
New Forms Of Report Cards, Amanda Katherine Hebeler
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies
A report card form which is in harmony with our theories of what is good in present-day school procedure is greatly needed. The traditional pupil-parent report has had its shorcomings freely discussed. Some attempts have been made to devise new forms which might be substituted. We have found it easier, however, to condemn the old than to create the new.

The Use Of Standardized Tests In The School Room, Esther E. Heyer
The Use Of Standardized Tests In The School Room, Esther E. Heyer

The giving of standardized mental and educational tests has occupied a conspicuous place in the professional literature of the past few years. Ten years ago testing was almost unknown in the public schools except to discover those who were mentally defective for placement in "Special Classes". Schools in practically all large towns and in many small ones and also in country district are now making extensive use of test results. Being a movement which deals with a problem so intangible as the measurement of intelligence, it is often misinterpreted and misunderstood, thereby often seriously affecting the life of a child. …

Bachelors’ Theses
Every class of pupils in any grade vary in arithmetical abilities as well as abilities in other subjects. Differences among children are great. The need for a diagnosis becomes very apparent and will indicate what remedial work must be done. Many pupils fail to grasp the process taught and reteaching is necessary if the children are to overcome difficulties and acquire skills in the use of certain facts and principles that are essential. Therefore a diagnostic and remedial program is very important.

Tests & Study Guides In Literature For Secondary Schools, Ida Nance
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
When the time came to choose a thesis subject, I immediately said Objective Tests Applicable to Collateral Reading. Having been told "nothing has been done along that line - almost nothing at all," I decided to extend my investigations to include any and all tests in high-school literature - tests for comprehension and appreciation, survey and achievement tests, and tests designed for collateral reading. Each phase of the study has been interesting, but I fear that I have remained somewhat partial to the unit first begun and have perhaps given it a bit more consideration than the other divisions have …
