Perceptions Of Tennessee Public School Principals Concerning Their Managerial Authority Under Collective Negotiations, Oliver E. Eller

The problem of this study was to determine if collective negotiations had restricted the perceived managerial authority of Tennessee's public school principals within selected demographic variables. Fourteen demographic variables (the independent variables) were selected for the study. Pauline's Principals On-Job Discretion Scale (the dependent variable) developed and validated by Robert A. Pauline was selected as the appropriate instrument for use in this study. The instrument listed ten responsibilities of public school principals which might or might not be registered by the terms and conditions of teachers' negotiated agreements with school boards. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge of United States Supreme Court decisions affecting education possessed by public school teachers, principals, superintendents, and board members; to determine if significant differences existed among these groups in their knowledge of Supreme Court decisions affecting education; and to determine if significant differences existed within each group depending on years of experience in education and level of education. The problem of this study was to determine the growth and development of the community education program in North Carolina and to determine if this development was reflected by public awareness and response to the program. In reviewing the literature and searching manuals of survey instruments, a questionnaire was not found which would answer the specific questions necessary for the study. A questionnaire was designed and field tested utilizing graduate students and participants in a community education workshop sponsored by National Center for Community Education from Flint, Michigan. Principals' Perceptions Of Superintendents' Leadership Ability In Tennessee, Michael K. Amstein

The problem of this study was to determine whether principals' perceptions of their superintendents' leadership ability were affected by selected demographic variables. This study followed the ex-post facto design. Twelve dimensions of the Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire, Form 12 (LBDQ-XII) were selected to assess the perceptions of principals of the leadership behavior of superintendents in Tennessee. Four hundred principals were randomly selected to participate in this study. One hundred sixty-one principals responded and the findings reflect their responses. The unpaired t-test and Analysis of Variance were applied to the data for Hypotheses 1 through 15. The statistical analysis was intended …

The purpose of this study was to determine if significant differences existed in the perceived need deficiencies of secondary teachers who engaged in professional negotiations as compared to those who did not. In addition, attempts were made to determine if significant differences existed in the perceived need deficiencies of male and female secondary teachers, urban and rural secondary teachers, various age groups of secondary teachers, and various experience groups of secondary teachers.
