Leveraging Linkedin: How Can Educators Help College Students Market Themselves?, Ruby Daniels, Mark Dempsey

Marketing Faculty Publications

To successfully transition from college to career, community college students must be prepared to sell their skills to potential employers. LinkedIn, the world’s leading professional networking website, provides college students and graduates with an affordable platform to promote their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Unfortunately, students often do not know how to communicate a unique value proposition in their LinkedIn profiles. In response, the National Convergence Technology Center (CTC), based in Collin College, developed a 30-minute webinar to train community college educators about how to avoid common mistakes in LinkedIn. High interest in the webinar as well as responses to a …

We also recommend inviting Tree Campus to join the Alliance for Community Trees (ACT). Through membership, they will attend and participate in the Partners in Community Forestry Conference.

Rationale

The Tree City program is being under-utilized in connecting resources with communities. ADF can …

Honors Theses

Over the course of one semester, our group has worked with the Arbor Day Foundation as part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business Honors Academy. The Arbor Day Foundation is a local nonprofit conservation organization with a focus on trees. As consultants for the Arbor Day Foundation, our team discussed and observed the current needs of the company. We then developed creative solutions to address these needs, concentrating on Arbor Day’s Tree City USA program. Our solutions can be described utilizing the acronym “S.A.P.” which stands for “Segmentation”, “Awareness”, and “Portal”. These three recommendations build on each other …

Evaluating Urban Parks Accessibility And Equity: A Case Study Of Hartford, Ct And New Haven, Ct, Natalie Roach, Mara Tu

Honors Scholar Theses

Public parks provide cities with environmental benefits, positive health effects, recreational opportunities, community building, educational spaces, and public amenities. However, certain populations have been systematically denied their fair share of these benefits because of unjust practices in the creation and maintenance of urban parks. With a lens of environmental justice, the goal of this research was to assess park quality and accessibility of two Connecticut cities, Hartford and New Haven, by gathering publicly available information as well as using GIS tools.

The Trust for Public Land (TPL) has an existing ParkScore rating system that evaluates the quality of a city’s …

Lutz Strategic Analysis, Ashley Tyler Apr 2021

Lutz Strategic Analysis, Ashley Tyler

Honors Theses

Lutz, an accounting firm in Nebraska, was founded in 1980 and has grown radically since. It now has four divisions – Accounting, Finance, Talent, and Technology – and over 275 employees. When analyzing the external environment, a PESTEL, Porter’s Five Forces, and SWOT analyses were done. These found the external environment can have an impact on the industry, however, accounting is a job that will always be needed, and growth is almost always available. Lutz’s current strategy for growth is a resource-based view of the firm that involves being a one-stop-shop for customers. It is also looking for new firms …

Deodand, Brian L. Frye Apr 2021

Deodand, Brian L. Frye

Seattle University Law Review SUpra

Deodands are a delightful example of a common law doctrine that caused something to happen: the Crown was enabled to tax tortfeasors. But not in a way anyone expected at the time or anyone understands today. Look on their logic and despair. You’ll never figure it out, no matter how hard you try. And that’s what makes them so lyrical. The concept of the deodand is beautiful even though we can’t understand it. Or rather, it’s beautiful because we can’t understand it. If we understood deodands, surely they would be as prosaic as life insurance and conceptual art.

In 1964, …
