The Vertical Blind Project, Barry Goldberg
The Vertical Blind Project, Barry Goldberg
College Partner Collection
This project began with a parent donating the very flexible white slats from their vertical window blinds. In the first part of this project, the children were simply given one of the slats to physically experiment with: to explore what was possible with this new, flat, white, flexible material. In addition to getting a feel for its surface texture, weight and floppiness, they explored its capacity to bend and twist. The engagement with their bodies inspired unexpectedly inventive aspects of dance and performance. After a time, we asked them to think about the blind as a material for a sculpture …

Dragons And Giants And The Dream From Frog And Toad Together (1971) By Arnold Lobel, Peter Shea
Dragons And Giants And The Dream From Frog And Toad Together (1971) By Arnold Lobel, Peter Shea
Chapter Books
In this time of war, Arnold Lobel’s story “Dragons and Giants,” from Frog and Toad Together, lights up especially bright. Societies all over the world show children images of martial bravery–knights and giants—and then, at about age 18, draft them into the military to act out those ideals. In “The Dream,” from the same collection, Toad dreams that a voice keeps building him up as he performs on a stage, saying things like, “The greatest Toad will now dance, and he will be wonderful!” Our great privilege, as adults talking seriously with children, is that we can help them …
What Were Trigger Warnings? New Forms Of Knowing And The Use Of The Classroom, Kelli Fuery
What Were Trigger Warnings? New Forms Of Knowing And The Use Of The Classroom, Kelli Fuery
CCI Books and Book Chapters
"In some ways the trigger warning, if left as a form of not- knowing, shares a similar threatening sensibility to the current fear of future technology2 and my interest in this chapter is to consider what has happened to trigger warnings so that we might rethink the ways in which a classroom can be used to embrace unthought experiences in productive and creative ways. Have trigger warnings already become a reductive part of well- intended classroom instruction, or might there be something more to be gained by considering an evolution of their function, one that moves trigger warnings from …

"The individual histories of both trigger warnings and trauma have evolved rapidly in the overlapping wakes of COVID, mental health crises, attacks on educational institutions in the United States, climate apocalypse, evergrowing economic inequities, and, more promisingly, attempts at political redress and educational equity. At the same time, trigger warnings and trauma have become exponentially more intimately linked in the past few years. But however often the topic of trigger warnings provokes heated discussion, the appeals and alignments of the interlocutors equally as frequently defy neat political binaries. Critiques of trigger warnings come from all sides of the political and …

Trigger Warnings And A Pedagogy Of Trust, Morgan Read-Davidson
English Faculty Books and Book Chapters
"While the larger conversation about difficult content and trigger warnings is not new, the sudden need for urgently scheduled meetings with me did not begin until the COVID- 19 pandemic crisis and our move to remote instruction, and the subsequent adjustment back to the classroom. This seems to coincide with the increase of online and social media interaction during the pandemic, where the use of trigger warnings and content warnings on social media, particularly on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, have made the conversation far more visible. For students, this seems to have given them validation and confidence, as well as …
The Global Onboard Training Programme (Gobt) : A Comprehensive Review, World Maritime University
The Global Onboard Training Programme (Gobt) : A Comprehensive Review, World Maritime University
Reports
A stable supply of qualified seafarers is a critical component of the global maritime logistics industry, which relies heavily on maritime transportation. According to the 2021 BIMCO Manpower Report, an additional 89,510 officers will be needed by 2026. In 2021 alone, there was already a deficit of 26,240 STCW-certified officers, clearly indicating that demand continues to outpace supply. The report also noted a 45.8% increase in the number of female seafarers since 2015, although they still represent only a small share of the overall workforce. Maritime Education and Training (MET) institutions around the world continue to provide training to develop …

Tools, Mats, And Methods For Cutting Materials, Barry Goldberg
College Partner Collection
The material that has been essential to many projects is cardboard. Lightweight, sturdy, inexpensive and easy to shape, cardboard is a remarkably versatile material. It can also be seen as difficult to cut. With the right tools and cutting surface, this need not be the case.

01. Elfie, Second Edition (Novel - Ebook), Matthew Lipman
Early Elementary School Curriculum
Elfie is in the first grade and is so shy she can’t speak in class and can hardly even formulate a question. Yet little escapes her and her mind puzzles over everything that happens in class and at home. When the principal proposes a contest aimed at improving reasoning, her whole class is caught up in figuring out how sentences work and how distinctions and connections are made. At the same time, Elfie and her classmates discover many distinctions fundamental to inquiry: appearance and reality, the one and the many, parts and wholes, similarity and difference, permanence and change.

Examining Any Differences Between Genders’ Activity Levels During Recess, Kara M. Wells
Examining Any Differences Between Genders’ Activity Levels During Recess, Kara M. Wells
2026 Honors Symposium
Physical activity in children is significant for all aspects of their development, including cognitive, physical, emotional, and social aspects. Recess is important for children to be given a designated time to exercise and get physical activity. For some children, recess is the only time they get to exercise in a day. This study aims to examine differences in activity levels between genders at Leverett Elementary School. It is important to know if there is a disparity between boys and girls at recess, so that educators, parents, and administrators can work to bridge any gaps and ensure that all kids are …

Becoming An Effective Literacy Educator: A Qualitative Study In Elementary Education, Lillian Petry
2026 Honors Symposium
Background: This thesis explores the personal journey of one childhood education teacher candidate becoming an effective teacher through both childhood experiences and formal preparation through an elementary teacher preparation program within a R1 University in the Southeastern United States. Arkansas continues to face literacy challenges making it significant to understand how future teachers can be better prepared to face the diverse needs of students in the classroom. Purpose: This research was based on the question: How do pre-service teachers’ childhood reading experiences, combined with their literacy instruction during teacher preparation, contribute to their development as effective literacy educators? Existing research …
