Applications Of Developmental Theory To The Design And Conduct Of Quality Field Experience Programs: Exercises For Educators, Michele Whitman, Albert Erdynast
Applications Of Developmental Theory To The Design And Conduct Of Quality Field Experience Programs: Exercises For Educators, Michele Whitman, Albert Erdynast
Service Learning, General
Much has been made in experiential learning circles of the implications of empirical findings in developmental psychology for the formulation of a theoretically convincing rationale for field experience education programs of every kind. Of particular significance has been the identification of cognitive structural stages of intellectual, moral, social and ego development through which individuals have been shown to progress--structural transformations of the individual's intra- and interpersonal capacities which closely mirror the traditionally articulated goals of higher education for students' growth. Even as such concepts have been advanced, however, practitioners have voiced persistent reservations about the theory's seeming elitism, the values …
Effects Of A Selected Motor Skill Task On The Development Of Stereopsis, William M. Rentschler
Effects Of A Selected Motor Skill Task On The Development Of Stereopsis, William M. Rentschler
Student Work
One would expect visual-perceptual abilities to be quite important in sport skills. Donna Mae Miller (1960) substantiated this idea when she examined a battery of eight tests she felt were important in responding quickly and accurately to visual cues. Highly skilled athletes scored considerably higher in areas of static balance, stereopsis, blocks response and mutilated words than did lower skilled athletes. Williams (1968) in a similar study looked at visu&l-perceptual judgments in a more dynamic approach. Subjects were asked to catch tennis balls after they had been projected into the air and bounced off of a canvas. The results found …

The Effects Of Three Stretching Techniques On Flexibility, Mark Edward Wortman
The Effects Of Three Stretching Techniques On Flexibility, Mark Edward Wortman
Student Work
According to deVries (11), flexibility is defined as the range of possible movement in a joint or series of joints. The assessment of flexibility is a concern for both physical education and. the medical professions·. Apparently, an adequate amount of flexibility is essential for rehabilitation from injury,.prevention of injury and superior athletic performance (2, 8, 11, 14, 15, 16, 19, 21, 25, 31, 37, 43, 45). Presently, three stretching techniques are available: 1) static or slow sustained; 2) ballistic or bounce; 3) pro-prioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF). However, there appears to be no uniform agreement as to the best technique for …

Effect Of Diet On Aerobic Performance, Maureen Hall Fennerty
Effect Of Diet On Aerobic Performance, Maureen Hall Fennerty
Student Work
Aerobic performance is affected by a number of physiological, psychological, sociological and environmental factors (Astrand, 1977). Among the many physiological factors nutrition plays an important part. However, when considering what constitutes a balanced diet, nutritionists express varying opinions as to what percentage of protein, fat and carbohydrate should be included for the general populace and the athlete. Mayer and Bullen (1960) in their review of literature on nutrition and athletic performance concluded a balanced diet is adequate for the athlete.

Identification Of The Criteria To Be Used In Evaluation Of Athletic Programs In The Elkhorn Public Schools, Larry L. Dlugosh
Identification Of The Criteria To Be Used In Evaluation Of Athletic Programs In The Elkhorn Public Schools, Larry L. Dlugosh
Student Work
It is not sheer coincidence that in a world divided by differing political ideologies and struggles for power, sport remains one of the few bridges between man as man. In sport, the accident of birth, race, creed or station is transcended by performance alone. Sport speaks a universal language of movement and morality recognized in every culture. School yearbooks, athletic association reports, and television rating polls redundantly confirm that Americans are deeply interested in and supportive of athletic programs. At the high school level, almost four million boys and eight hundred thousand girls participate in athletic programs. An estimated one …

The Effects Of Title Ix On The Athletic Program At Ralston High School From 1972-1977, Kenneth Allen
The Effects Of Title Ix On The Athletic Program At Ralston High School From 1972-1977, Kenneth Allen
Student Work
Since the opening of the new Ralston High School in 1968, the student enrollment has increased and new programs have been developed. The period of 1968 through 1972 was a period of rapid growth.and development in the athletic program. More students were being involved in athletics. In particular, the boys' athletic program was making big strides. With the involvement of more boys, junior varsity and sophomore teams were created, and additions were made to the coaching staff. However, the girls' athletic program was struggling for survival. The budgets for the respective programs were not proportionate. The boys' coaching staff out …
