The history and development of the Counseling Center at Bucks County Community College is presented in a chronological manner starting in 1965. The goal of this paper is to explain the evolution of this Counseling Center from a medical model to an instructional model and to detail its influence on the college community. This history was structured around six components: curriculum, organization, methodologies (models), finances, student characteristics, and people. A Comparison Of The Achievement Scores Between Tactical Loader Trainees Using Slide/Tape As Opposed To Those Who Do Not, William R. Dees

This study compared the achievement scores between tactical loader trainees who use slide/ tape as opposed to those who do not. As a part of tactical loader driver licensing program, on-the-job (OJT) trainees attend an informal lecture and take a multiple choice final examination. The tactical loader slide/tape is not used by vehicle instructors even though it teaches the same lesson objectives as the informal lecture. Since instructors were not taking advantage of the slide/tape, it was determined that a study to determine that effectiveness of the tactical loader slide/tape as compared to the informal lecture would facilitate use of …

Developing Self-Direction In Learning: Examining A Method For Increasing Independent Learning In Adults, Terrell L. Perry

The purpose of this investigation was to determine if the method based on what is known about the psychological, behavioral, and attitudinal characteristics of the self-directed learner was responsible for facilitating self-direction in engineering and construction personnel of a public electric utility. The sample consisted of 173 participants drawn from a total departmental population of 998 workers. A combination of two-group designs, a post-test only and a pretest post-test known as the Solomon Four Group design was followed.
Participants volunteered or at the request of their supervisors, entered the treatment to take a self-directed, self-paced instructional packet. Participants were then …

The author defined a deficiency in test scores in an a fifth grade setting that consisted of above-average intelligent students and devised a treatment to remediate the targeted students. The objectives were to improve test scores; improve affective behaviors; improve basic skills knowledge; improve the concept of word problems involving money; and to increase instruction in mathematical vocabulary.
The researcher defined a target group by using a pretest. The target group worked within the heterogeneous fifth grade classroom setting. Small discussion groups were defined within the setting for the purpose of peer interaction within the discipline pf problem solving. Large …
