This article examines the role of aesthetics in art, music, non-art objects, and activities in daily life. It shows that recognition is vital to our understanding of art and art-objects and sometimes creates conflicts which ask, what does one do with art? The question becomes more confusing when we think about non-art objects and activities which concern our everyday experiences from eating, clothing, cleaning and dealing with life's natural elements. This article creates a recording anthology from four of John P. Sousa's finest marches and includes "The Washington Post," "The Fairest of the Fair," "Hands Across the Sea," and "The Thunder." The titles were chosen because of their popularity as being the most recorded marches, and that they all have a common thread between them. Together, they create a unique collage of themes that when put together take on a new life. Innovative and learner-centered approaches to teaching and learning are vital for the applied field of leadership education, yet little research exists on such pedagogical approaches within the field. Using a phenomenological approach in analyzing 26 students’ reflective narratives, the authors explore students’ experiences of and process of learning within a student-centered and inquiry-focused leadership capstone course. The purpose of this research inquiry focuses on how school leaders ‘make sense’ of educational reform in their local contexts. In order to do this, an exploratory qualitative case study of two schools that took part in policy reform initiatives directed at ubiquitous use of information communication and technology (ICT) in the Singapore city–state context is undertaken. Using focus group discussions (FGDs), interviews and observations this inquiry investigates and builds emerging explanations to sense-making experiences of actors in the midst of reforms. We decided to address the issue of incorporating archaeology and material culture into classes devoted to Latin literature last spring, while Patrick was teaching Latin and Lynne was teaching Roman Civilization. Both of us were confronted with the danger of losing the interest of students who once had a burning desire to learn about the ancient world. Our aim is to offer up some suggestions for ways that, through collaboration between specialists in philology, history, and archaeology, we can keep the Classical world dynamic and relevant.

The National Park Service (NPS) Advisory Board Education Committee was charged with identifying areas that would improve life-long learning in the NPS. In this session, we will present three components of a project looking at family learning in free-choice settings that emerged from this request. The components will include: a literature review developed for the NPS; complementary involvement of NPS personnel in reviewing literature and their voices; and a look at novices and experts in interpretation and research and their roles in crowd-sourced research. The presentations will be followed by round-table discussions, where participants will explore the ideas further.

Yellowstone’s Youth Conservation Corps is a youth employment program founded on service learning concepts implemented through stewardship projects. Education is integrated into all projects through the Resource Education Curriculum (REC). To enhance the REC, in 2012-2013 a framework was created and implemented to assist in the development of 17 environmental educational (EE) lessons. Five major bodies of knowledge emerged: leadership, cultural heritage, stewardship, ecological relationships, and sustainability. The authors argue that grey literature (i.e. material produced and published by organisations without recourse to the commercial or scholarly publishing industry) is a key part of the evidence produced and used for public policy and practice.
