Mind-Body Integrative Training: Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment (Ppe), Rodger E. Broome Phd, Josh Told, Zachery Lyman

Rodger E. Broome

The purpose of this research is to determine if differences in performance outcomes exist between the use of paramilitary instruction and a method of teaching informed by the Chinese philosophy Tài Chí when learning to don structural fire-fighting clothing or personal protective equipment (PPE). We hypothesize that keeping students in a process focus (i.e., Tài Chí method) rather than a high-pressure outcome focus (traditional paramilitary method) results in increased proficiency in the skill-performance outcomes (Selk, 2009). The assumption is that Tài Chí helps integrates students’ minds and bodies in the learning process and results in a higher quality of motor …

Diversity Analysis Of Challenge Day: Examination Of The Outcomes Of Diversity Training, Kelly Liane Glick

Kelly Liane Glick

The literature reveals limited research related to the benefits and learning outcomes of diversity training for practicing K-12 teachers. Bolman and Deal’s (1997) four frames model, Vaara et al.’s (2004) framework for discourse analysis, and Challenge Day’s website were used to analyze the organization’s diversity and potential for use as diversity training for teachers within K-12 schools. I examined my positionality of Challenge Day and the …

Today, cloud-based technology lets institutions add basic localization courses to their curriculum without investing heavily in infrastructure first.

Teaching Localization: 6 Practices That Make A Difference (Part Ii), Uwe Muegge Feb 2014

Teaching Localization: 6 Practices That Make A Difference (Part Ii), Uwe Muegge

Translation memory (TM) systems have become commonplace in today’s translation courses – sometimes for the wrong reasons. If students are told that the only reason for using a translation memory is to leverage previous translations, these students will not use a TM system for non-repetitive texts. That teaching approach might also be frustrating for students who start with an empty translation memory, as these students may not get any immediate benefit from using TM technology. If, however, students are introduced to the translation memory as a quality assurance tool, the return on investment is instant.
