Data Security On Mobile Devices- A Higher Education Perspective, David Reis

Academic Commons and Scott Memorial Library Staff Papers and Presentations

Mobile devices, both personal and Jefferson-owned, are being used everywhere on campus. Everyone knows that patient health information should not be stored on mobile devices, but did you know there are similar restrictions for student information?

If you access your Jefferson email from your mobile device and it contains student email on it, or in your address book, you need to know the requirements to protect that data.

Is your device secure?

AISR and JeffIT are hosting a presentation that will address important data security steps you should take to protect the information on your mobile device.

Annual Reports & Administrative Documents

Preface

Every faculty member at one time or another has known the sinking sensation that he or she is just not reaching students. Since we entered the profession because we love learning and love to facilitate learning, blank stares and dull eyes lead not only to frustration, but also to disappointment. Paraphrasing Lee Shulman, past President of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and a leader in professional education, it is one thing to be competent in subject knowledge and another thing to be competent in subject knowledge pedagogy.

The examples and ideas expressed in these pages come …

Feeding The Fledgling Repository: Starting An Institutional Repository At An Academic Health Sciences Library., Ann E. Koopman, Am, Daniel G. Kipnis, Msi

Academic Commons and Scott Memorial Library Staff Papers and Presentations

In 2005, the Scott Memorial Library at Thomas Jefferson University started an institutional repository (IR), the Jefferson Digital Commons (JDC) . Originally intended as a showcase for faculty scholarship, it has evolved to serve also as a university press for original journals and newsletters, and as an institutional archive. Many lessons have been learned about marketing techniques, common IR issues, and advantages of an IR for a library. IR recruitment has come to be viewed as yet another form of collection development and has been integrated into all forms of the Library's outreach. Jefferson's academic health sciences environment has proven …

Adorn The Halls: History Of The Art Collection At Thomas Jefferson University, Julie S. Berkowitz Jan 1999

Adorn The Halls: History Of The Art Collection At Thomas Jefferson University, Julie S. Berkowitz

Jefferson History Books

On March 11, 1871 Samuel D. Gross, M.D., the internationally celebrated surgeon and author, entreated fellow Jefferson alumni to "adorn the halls" with portraits of those who had "devoted their lives to the service of the school," and thus "inspire the pupil with ambition to excel in great and noble works." This clarion call to emulate European medical and scientific institutions by memorializing their great men was taken up almost immediately.

One hundred and twenty-five years later, Thomas Jefferson university is still securing portraits, accepting art donations and bequests, and exhibiting art works effectively. By manifesting an appreciation for the …

Parenting For Emotional Growth: Workshop Series For Parents And Other Caregivers, Henri Parens, Md

Parenting for Emotional Growth

The Workshops, like the Lesson Plans, contain many opportunities for the participants and students to learn both didactically and experientially by direct, live observations. Questions and discussions, role-plays, interactional exercises, written and oral lessons and occasional games provide ample opportunity to experience the Workshops contents both intellectually and emotionally.

Workshop Instructors must be cognizant of ethnicity-specific mores and customs of Workshop participants; guidelines are provided to facilitate such ethnic considerations.

Parenting For Emotional Growth: A Curriculum For Students In Grades K Thru Twelve, Henri Parens, Md Jan 1995

Parenting For Emotional Growth: A Curriculum For Students In Grades K Thru Twelve, Henri Parens, Md

Parenting for Emotional Growth

The PEG Curriculum has 3 distinctive features:

  • It addresses the mental health domain of parenting. We emphasize that we are talking about the emotional aspects of rearing 'the human child', whatever the child's race, ethnicity, or religion, because all human infants have the same basic emotional and psychological needs. This course of study for parenting consists of three sub-domains of study: (a) human emotional and behavior development; (b) strategies for optimizing the child's development; and (c) other pertinent parenthood issues.
  • The curriculum materials extend from the kindergarten level through 12th grade. In a unique collaboration between mental health and …

Parenting For Emotional Growth: Textbook, Henri Parens, Md Jan 1995

Parenting For Emotional Growth: Textbook, Henri Parens, Md

Parenting for Emotional Growth

This textbook, on which the Parenting for Emotional Growth Curriculum, Workshops, and Lines of Development are based, is highly detailed and is based in psychodynamic theories that address parenting issues pertinent to optimizing the child's psychological development, mental well-being, and abilities to adapt constructively. The presentation of materials is organized by the rationale that when parents know, understand, and can positively handle the child's evolving emotional and experiential needs and psychological developments, the parents' rearing strategies tend to better optimize their children's developmental potential than when such knowledge, understanding, and handling are lacking. It is exactly because this …

Parenting For Emotional Growth: Lines Of Development, Henri Parens, Md Jan 1995

Parenting For Emotional Growth: Lines Of Development, Henri Parens, Md

Parenting for Emotional Growth

In developing the Parenting for Emotional Growth Textbook, we planned to structure the units in such a way that the same issues, be it the development of self and relationships, of aggression, etc., would be addressed in the same sequence at the various stage levels of the child's development. Thus, in the Textbook, the issues will be ordered in the same sequence in all of the units.

While using the textbook for classroom or workshop preparation or for individual study, some users have sought to follow one or another particular line of development through the length of its …
