The Role Of Organizational Buy-In In Employee Retention, Serena Hsia Dec 2017

The Role Of Organizational Buy-In In Employee Retention, Serena Hsia

Industrial-Organizational Psychology Dissertations

This study examined the role of organizational buy-in, the acceptance and willingness to actively support and participate in the organizations plans, in the relationship between job satisfaction and intent to stay. Furthermore, this study proposed that job position would moderate the influence of organizational buy-in, as those in higher positions may be more invested in the organiation’s strategy. Two models were tested – a moderated moderation model, and a double moderated model. Support was found for the double moderated model. Organizational buy-in acted as a buffer between job satisfaction and intent to stay, such that those who have low job …

Inside The Black Box: Investigating Philanthropic Foundation Strategies In A Dynamic Environment, Amanda Stewart Dec 2017

Inside The Black Box: Investigating Philanthropic Foundation Strategies In A Dynamic Environment, Amanda Stewart

The Foundation Review

Foundations have been described as black boxes — implying that we know very little about what happens between inputs and outputs. We do know that they operate in dynamic environments and must adopt strategies to be effective in the face of change. This article, which examines the strategies of 29 foundations operating in one southeastern state, provides fresh insights into how foundations fulfill their missions.

The article is based on a research study that used semistructured interviews to explore how foundations approached grantmaking. Interviewees discussed the multiple and simultaneous roles played by grantmakers in addition to their traditional check-writing function. …

What Factors During The Genesis Of A Startup Are Causal To Survival?, Gilbert T. Gonzalez Sep 2017

What Factors During The Genesis Of A Startup Are Causal To Survival?, Gilbert T. Gonzalez

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This research presents the results of a qualitative and quantitative investigation into what factors are present at time zero that increase the probability that a startup will achieve long term sustainability.

Survival rates for startups in the United States (U.S.) are disappointingly low and economically inefficient. The data shows that the U.S. clearly lags its peer countries in the survival rates of startups. The U.S ranked an unacceptable 11th of 14 among its peer countries in first-year survival rates in recent years. Startup failure does not only impact the entrepreneur; it also impacts creditors, vendors, community stakeholders, and employees. While …

Competitive Intensity And Its Two-Sided Effect On The Boundaries Of Firm Performance, Joao Montez, Francisco Ruiz-Aliseda, Michael D. Ryall May 2017

Competitive Intensity And Its Two-Sided Effect On The Boundaries Of Firm Performance, Joao Montez, Francisco Ruiz-Aliseda, Michael D. Ryall

Michael D Ryall

The new perspective emerging from strategy's value-capture stream is that the effects of competition are two-fold: competition for an agent bounds its performance from below, while that for its transaction partners bounds from above. Thus, assessing the intensity of competition on either side is essential to understanding firm performance. Yet, the literature provides no formal notion of "competitive intensity" with which to make such assessments. Rather, some authors use added value as their central analytic concept, others the core. Added value is simple, but misses the crucial, for-an-agent side of competition. The core is theoretically complete, but difficult to interpret …

Preparing For The Merit-Based Incentive Payment Structure: A Value-Based Business Plan, Ali R. Saheb May 2017

Preparing For The Merit-Based Incentive Payment Structure: A Value-Based Business Plan, Ali R. Saheb

Doctoral Projects

The notion of delivering value-based care while maintaining corporate vitality in health care is a multifaceted process. Shaping a business model to reflect this process requires the alignment of quality implications, reimbursement initiatives, a framework that takes into account stipulations on reimbursement for different types of clinicians, and an understanding and preparedness for emerging guidelines and nationally recognized structures for quality indicators. When organizations recognize the need for change, but are not yet prepared to implement it, a comprehensive business plan can help the organization visualize a path to success. In this project, the foundation of requirements for a value-based …

Short - Term Investing, Matt J. Abraitis

Senior Honors Projects

Launched in March of 1957, The Standard and Poor’s 500 Index (The S&P 500) was the first index to be published daily. Starting with an indicator in 1923 for 233 companies, and then growing to 416 in 1941, today it is used as a common benchmark for the health of the U.S. stock market with 500 companies. These 500 companies offer some of the largest stocks (claims of ownership in public American companies) in the United States although it is not the only index to gauge the health of the economy. In 2012, Standard & Poor’s combined its index operations …

Let's Listen To Sarma: Developing An Index Of Financial Inclusion For Nigeria., Baba N. Yaaba

Bullion

The National Financial inclusion Strategy of the Central Bank of Nigeria was designed to reduce the percentage of adult Nigerians excluded from financial services from 46.3 per cent as at 2070 to 20.0 per cent by 2020. As a component of the policy tool kit, the strategy makes provision for annual data gathering to measure progress in financial inclusion drive of the Bank. This approach and others recognised by the CBN are mostly survey based, hence occasional and expensive. ln order to facilitate cross-country comparison, this study adopted Sarma (2008, 2012) to compute a composite index for financial inclusion for …

Too Nice To Be Dominant: How Brand Warmth Impacts Perceptions Of Market Dominance, Jennifer L. Stoner, Carlos J. Torelli Jan 2017

Too Nice To Be Dominant: How Brand Warmth Impacts Perceptions Of Market Dominance, Jennifer L. Stoner, Carlos J. Torelli

Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2017

Consumers are unaware of brands’ market dominance. This is important given that even misperception as a market leader has been shown to lead to positive evaluations from consumers. We hypothesize that when consumers are lacking direct knowledge about a brand’s market dominance, brand image is used as a cue for inference making: specifically, a brand with a warm, kind, and generous image will be in conflict with perceptions of market dominance, which are perceived as an embodiment of power. Thus high warmth brands will be perceived as less market dominant than low warmth brands.

In study 1, we use real …

Supermarket Pricing Model Impact On Private Label Brands Versus National Brands Among Millennial Consumers, Jeffrey Hendrix, Vinny Caraballo Jan 2017

Supermarket Pricing Model Impact On Private Label Brands Versus National Brands Among Millennial Consumers, Jeffrey Hendrix, Vinny Caraballo

Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2017

National Brands (NBs) and private label brands (PLBs) play a vital role in manufacturing and retailing strategies. Market share growth of PLBs over the past few decades continues to level the playing field; altering go-to-market strategies for both NB and PLB manufacturers and retailers. A quantitative examination compared purchase data between NB versus PLB using panel data from 100,000 households. Consumer metrics; trip conversion, buyer conversion, and dollar loyalty served as dependent variables interacting with a multivariate grouping of branding (NB vs. PLB), grocery pricing model (Hi-Lo vs. EDLP vs. Hybrid) and age-cohort (Millennial vs. Generation X). A MANOVA provided …

Auto parts manufacturing is a key element of the North American automotive supply chain, and a significant component of the economy of Ontario, Canada. Employment in this sector declined 40% from 2003 to 2010 as the industry experienced a recession, and many firms relocated to lower wage jurisdictions as the Canadian currency strengthened against the US dollar. Experts contend that the solution for the industry lies in innovation; however, recommendations found in the current …

Robot Induced Technological Unemployment: Towards A Youth-Focused Coping Strategy, Eduardo Pol, James Reveley Jan 2017

Robot Induced Technological Unemployment: Towards A Youth-Focused Coping Strategy, Eduardo Pol, James Reveley

Faculty of Business - Papers (Archive)

As an agent of economic and social change, robotization has elicited considerable concern about technological unemployment. Focusing on youth, this paper makes four contributions to the debate over this labour-displacing technological change's effects. First, to clarify the magnitude of the job threat to young people, the paper accentuates the conceptual distinction between technological unemployment and frictional unemployment. Second, the possibility of persistent technological unemployment, which the young are currently facing, is linked to strong uncertainty stemming from the rapidity of invention in robotics and artificial intelligence. Third, the paper advances a plausibility-based argument about the inevitability of technological unemployment. Fourth, …

Aluminum Production Costs: A Comparative Case Study Of Production Strategy, Joseph Nloga Ndjebayi Jan 2017

Aluminum Production Costs: A Comparative Case Study Of Production Strategy, Joseph Nloga Ndjebayi

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Slumping world aluminum prices have energized some aluminum producers to institute strategies to reduce product costs. This multiple comparative case study explored the strategies used by 4 aluminum producers in Western Europe: 2 companies that have successfully reduced production costs and 2 companies that have not. Wicksteed's economic theory of production and production costs was the conceptual framework for this research. Data from the companies' strategic and industry reports and from interviews with 32 senior managers were analyzed using pattern finding and clustering, a recursive approach to data gathering and analysis established by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. Six themes emerged: …

These failures could lead to efforts to identify strategies that owners can use to avoid failure. The conceptual framework applied in this case study was the triple-loop learning theory. The purposive sampling included 7 military veterans who were small business owners who had sustained their small businesses more than 5 years. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and organization documents. Yin's 5-step process for data analysis compiling, disassembling, reassembling, interpreting, and concluding resulted in 4 …

Strategies To Secure Sustainable Funding For Nonprofit Organizations, Jasmine Y. Hardy Jan 2017

Strategies To Secure Sustainable Funding For Nonprofit Organizations, Jasmine Y. Hardy

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There are 1.4 million active nonprofit organizations in the United States; however, funding sustainability often forces nonprofit senior leaders into closure, which can lead to increased unemployment and decreased services provided to local communities. Nonprofit senior leaders seek help from scholars, at times, to identify strategies to secure sustainable funding sources, improve the sustainability of funding, or prevent or reverse losses of funding to their organizations. Through the conceptual lens of the general systems theory, the 2015-2016 Baldrige Excellence Framework and Criteria, and single- and double-loop learning, this single-case study explored strategies used to secure sustainable funding for nonprofit organizations …

The research design was a multiple case study format engaging 3 Michigan EWDs whose firms were profitable after at least 3 years of successful business operations. Tipu's conceptual framework of entrepreneurship was useful in understanding the basis for successful EWDs' strategies. Face-to-face interviews with EWDs and onsite observations of their business operations …

The theory of constraints was the conceptual framework for this single qualitative case study that explored ERP system critical success factors (CSFs) and strategies U.S. city governments use to successfully implement ERP systems. One city government in New Mexico with a successful ERP system served as the case study's population. Data were collected from semistructured interviews and relevant documents and then open …

“Are We Having Fun Yet?”: What Factors Influence Senior-Level Managers To Have Fun At Work?, Anthony Scardillo

Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2017

Contrary to belief, employees are NOT having fun yet. In fact, 73% of all employees are dissatisfied with their jobs (Crabtree, 2013). The reasons are many, but the underlying reason is that they are not having any fun! (Clark, 2009; Ford, McLaughlin, & Newstrom, 2003a; Kinjerski & Skrypnek, 2006). We believe that a fun and engaging workplace impacts employee engagement, morale, productivity and safety (Bedeian & Armenakis, 1998; Boyatzis, Smith, & Beveridge, 2012; 2013). We also believe that creating a fun atmosphere at work is accomplished only when management has fun (Bolton, Houlihan, & Renee Baptiste, 2009; CHI, CHUNG, & …
