Mercy And Business: A Partnership For Catholic University Business Students, Arlene J. Nicholas
Faculty and Staff - Articles & Papers
A university mission that reflects mercy and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition can be integrated into business courses. Critical to this integration is the willingness of students to embrace concepts such as fairness and mercy, as part of their lives beyond academia; that caring for others is inclusive in business and private life. Some examples in management courses include; the protection from harassment or disenfranchisement of any ethnic, economic or lifestyle differences; fairness of applications, interviews and testing, and opportunities for training and promotions. In all business courses, the understanding of cultural dimensions and respect for others are emphasized.

Continuing a pattern seen over the last three months, business expectations remained positive and consumer confidence stayed weak in Nebraska during May. These mixed findings are based on monthly surveys of both Nebraska households and businesses. The Consumer Confidence Index – Nebraska (CCI-N) fell back to 89.3 in May, after a reading of 92.2 in April. In both months, consumer confidence is well below the value of 100 which would signify neutral confidence. Households report a variety of financial concerns with 52 percent reporting that their primary financial concerns relate to the cost of living including health care costs, taxes, …

These findings, based on monthly surveys of both Nebraska households and businesses, show a split assessment of the state economy. In particular, the Consumer Confidence Index – Nebraska (CCI-N) stood at 92.2 in April, little changed from its value of 91.0 in March. However, consumer confidence is well below the value of 100 which would signify neutral confidence. Households report a variety of financial concerns with three in five indicating that their primary financial concerns relate to the cost of living including health care costs, taxes, major expenses (furniture, …

This project combines the disciplines of both management and psychology, seeking to educate managers on how the two personality traits of introversion and extroversion can impact their ability to effectively manage employees in the workplace. It is presented in the form of a blog, each post identifying and answering an anticipated question that a manager would have while integrating personality considerations into their job practices. The Arc And Architecture Of Private Enforcement Regimes In The United States And Europe: A View Across The Atlantic, Jason Rathod, Sandeep Veheesan
The Arc And Architecture Of Private Enforcement Regimes In The United States And Europe: A View Across The Atlantic, Jason Rathod, Sandeep Veheesan
The University of New Hampshire Law Review
The United States and Europe have traditionally taken very different approaches to the regulation of harmful conduct. Previously, European nations relied almost entirely on the public enforcement of laws, whereas the United States relied on a mix of public and private actors. In the United States, private rights of action have played a central role deterring illegal conduct—and, in fact, provided greater deterrence than public enforcers in some areas of law. They have also allowed injured parties to obtain compensation. Despite their very different histories, the private enforcement systems in the United States and Europe are showing signs of convergence …

My research answers each of these questions in addition to many other questions the new entrepreneur might have. Part of my research insights were gained by experiential learning: I took a business idea of my own and took it through several key processes such as business idea generation, business model creation, market research, and advertising. Catholic Social Teaching As An Explanation Of Firm’S Environmental Impact: Evidence From Heavy Manufacturing Sector, Anne Hetson
Senior Honors Projects
Catholic Social Teaching theory is examined to identify business variables consistent with Papal Encyclicals. We identified top compensation (pay disparity), stock options (employee autonomy), and number of employees (primacy of labor over capital) as factors that are consistent with Catholic Social Teaching. We then used the “CSR Hub” environmental scores of manufacturing firms. We chose to look at manufacturing companies because of their potential for environmental impact. We find that firms that are consistent with Catholic Social Teaching have stronger environmental practices. Specifically, our research suggests that the greater the investment in labor, measured by cost of goods sold per …

Poverty is a major social problem that has existed for all of history and will continue to affect the lives of millions in the future. A number of business initiatives such as social business, macro-government initiatives, and transformational development have experienced success in helping reduce the problem. It is imperative to approach the issue of poverty recognizing the spiritual component along with the physical. Nebraska surveys of households and businesses again reveal a split assessment of the state economy. While consumer confidence is poor, Nebraska businesses have a somewhat positive outlook for economy. In particular, the Consumer Confidence Index – Nebraska (CCI-N) stood at 91.6 in February, well the below value of 100 which would signify neutral confidence. On a positive note, the CCI-N rose by 6.9 points in February after a dip to 84.7 during January 2016. The improvement likely reflects stabilization of the stock market in February. In terms of specific concerns, half of responding households reported concerns about costs including health …

Consumer Confidence Index – Nebraska And Survey Of Nebraska Business: February 5, 2016, Eric Thompson
Leading Economic Indicator Reports
January surveys of Nebraska households and businesses reveal a split assessment of the Nebraska economy. Nebraska businesses are optimistic about the outlook for sales and employment while household consumer confidence is low. In particular, the Consumer Confidence Index – Nebraska (CCI-N), which is being released for the first time this month, declined during January 2016 to 84.7 from a value of 89.0 in December 2015. This level and drop in the index, which is calculated based on a Survey of Nebraska households, indicates that consumer confidence is weak in Nebraska. The drop may reflect a decline in optimism in the …
