Prevalence Of Duesenberry’S Relative Income Hypothesis In Nepalese Economy, Rajendra Adhikari

International Review of Business and Economics

Present paper examines the prevalence of Duesenberry’s relative income hypothesis in Nepalese economy during 1974/75-2019/20 through ARDL bound tests under DEF and Davis-SK specifications. The ARDL under DEF specification is found to be not valid. However, the ARDL bound test under Davis-SK specification is found valid. There exists cointegration among average propensity to consume, demonstration effect and ratchet effect. The coefficient of demonstration effect is found to be negative and that of ratchet effect to be positive as reported by ARDL models. The error correction model also implies that short run shocks significantly affect long run relations among the variables. …

A Measurement Model Of The Dimensions And Types Of Informal Organizational Control: An Empirical Test In A B2b Sales Context, Stacey L. Malek, Shikhar Sarin, Bernard J. Jaworski

Marketing Faculty Publications and Presentations

Sales organizations are replete with informal forms of organizational control. Despite this, marketing and management literature has primarily focused on the theoretical development and empirical testing of formal, managerial forms of control. One reason research on informal controls has lagged is a lack of comprehensive measurement scales. Specifically, existing measures of the three principal types of informal controls—self, social, and cultural—do not capture the full dimensionality of the constructs (i.e., information, reward, and punishment aspects of informal controls). The authors take steps to remedy this situation by (1) outlining nine distinct dimensional types of informal control based on organizational control …

Under What Circumstances Are Chinese Entrepreneurs Reluctant To Go Public, Ting Huang

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

As secondary stock markets often overestimate corporate value, many Chinese entrepreneurs seek to achieve their wealth targets by going public. However, some companies in China do not want to go public. This paper utilises multi-case research methods to develop theories about which factors lead to corporate reluctance to go public. Case studies show that compared with entrepreneurs with lower shareholdings, entrepreneurs with higher shareholdings have stronger long-term orientations and a greater desire for control and are more reluctant to go public. Industry characteristics affect entrepreneurs’ long-term orientation, desire for control, and early listing experience, thus influencing their listing decision-making. Empirical …

The Next Frontier: The Arbitrability Of Intellectual Property Disputes, Daniel Hofilena Jun 2022

The Next Frontier: The Arbitrability Of Intellectual Property Disputes, Daniel Hofilena

Asia-Pacific Journal of IP Management and Innovation

Intellectual property rights (IPRs) are private rights and are only as strong as the means to enforce them. In this light, arbitration has been an increasingly attractive alternative for parties to resolve their disputes due to its efficiency, specialty, confidentiality, and deference to party autonomy. Arbitral awards can likewise be enforced across jurisdictions that are signatories to the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards. However, the capability of parties to submit IPR matters to arbitration is sometimes limited by the State under its laws. This study will explore possible solutions to the arbitrability of …

To ensure learning continuity despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, the Department of Education - Philippines promulgated a series of DepEd Orders directing public and private schools to adopt alternative methods of learning such as online distance learning and the preparation of Self Learning Modules. The resort to the different learning modalities …

Fiscal Policy And Macroeconomic Stability In Nigeria: How Effective Are Fiscal Rules?, E. A. Udeaja, J. M. Tule, Z. A. El-Yakub, J. A. Rotimi Jun 2022

Fiscal Policy And Macroeconomic Stability In Nigeria: How Effective Are Fiscal Rules?, E. A. Udeaja, J. M. Tule, Z. A. El-Yakub, J. A. Rotimi

Economic and Financial Review

The paper examines the impact of fiscal rules on macroeconomic stability in Nigeria. Using data spanning 2005Q1-2021Q4, the study adopts the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach and constructs output volatility to account for the role of gross fixed capital formation (GFCF), tax revenue, government size, and trade openness in assessing macroeconomic stability. The findings reveal that, Nigeria has deviated from the established rule limits since 2017. The study also finds that increase in government size and GFCF are instrumental to attaining macroeconomic stability during economic crisis. On the other hand, increasing trade openness and taxation are inimical to the macroeconomic …

Public Debt Sustainability Measures And Its Growth Implications For The Nigerian Economy, O. W. Gobna, G. Usman, S. S. Mohammed Jun 2022

Public Debt Sustainability Measures And Its Growth Implications For The Nigerian Economy, O. W. Gobna, G. Usman, S. S. Mohammed

Economic and Financial Review

This study utilises the linear and nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) models to investigate the impact of public debt sustainability measures and its growth implications for the Nigerian economy from 1981 and 2021. The results suggest that public debt-to-oil revenue ratio (PDOR) has a significantly negative effect on economic growth both in the long- and short-run. It also shows that public debt-to-non-oil revenue ratio has an asymmetric effect in the short-run and a positive relationship on economic growth in the long-run. The study concludes that economic growth needs to be enhanced through improved government non-oil revenue. Therefore, to bolster economic …

Do Geopolitical Risks And Economic Uncertainty Matter For Fiscal Sustainability In Nigeria?, E. A. Udeaja, S. T. Zimbo, P. F. Offum, B. O. Fashoro Jun 2022

Do Geopolitical Risks And Economic Uncertainty Matter For Fiscal Sustainability In Nigeria?, E. A. Udeaja, S. T. Zimbo, P. F. Offum, B. O. Fashoro

Economic and Financial Review

This paper attempts to answer the question about whether geopolitical risks and economic uncertainty matter for fiscal sustainability in Nigeria. The paper employs the ARDL model and bounds test approach to cointegration to analyse quarterly data for the period 2010Q1 to 2021Q4. The main finding indicates that geopolitical risks significantly enhance fiscal sustainability in the short- and long-run, while economic uncertainty does not. Accordingly, the study recommends the implementation of policies aimed at maximising the benefits of rising oil price triggered by geopolitical risks to improve fiscal sustainability in Nigeria.

Does The Okun's Law Hold In The Brics Countries And Nigeria?, U. Aminu, A. Abel, A. R. Garba Jun 2022

Does The Okun's Law Hold In The Brics Countries And Nigeria?, U. Aminu, A. Abel, A. R. Garba

Economic and Financial Review

The unemployment-output nexus is a topical issue in developing countries, particularly with some evidence against the trade-off suggested by Okun’s law. This study, therefore, investigates the validity of Okun’s law in the BRICS countries and Nigeria, based on annual data between 1993 and 2020, using the Panel ARDL model. We validate the Okun’s law with evidence of an inverse relationship between output and unemployment in the BRICS countries and Nigeria. We, therefore, recommend that policymakers should boost both nominal and potential output by fully diversifying the economy to enhance productivity and reduction in the unemployment rate. We also recommend that …

Advising 101 For The Growing Field Of Social Media Influencers, Stasia Skalbania Jun 2022

Advising 101 For The Growing Field Of Social Media Influencers, Stasia Skalbania

Washington Law Review

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) protects consumers from unfair and deceptive business practices. In 2019, the FTC released the “Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers Guide” (herein referred to as the “2019 Influencer Guide”). The 2019 Influencer Guide outlines advertisers’ and endorsers’ specific responsibilities relating to the advertising and marketing of products on social media platforms. Despite the extensive information provided within the 2019 Influencer Guide, there is still great confusion regarding endorsement disclosure requirements, and many brands and influencers are not in compliance with FTC recommendations. This Comment provides guidance to brands and social media influencers on how to …

Economic Policy Uncertainty And Non-Gaap Reporting, Ryan H. Wynne Jun 2022

Economic Policy Uncertainty And Non-Gaap Reporting, Ryan H. Wynne

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

This study investigates the impact of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) on non-GAAP reporting. Prior research documents that numerous factors influence the frequency and quality of non-GAAP earnings disclosures, but the expected association between EPU and non-GAAP reporting is unclear. On the one hand, greater EPU may increase investor demand for additional financial information, while on the other hand, more EPU may lead to less non-GAAP disclosure by making core or recurring earnings more difficult to predict. Additionally, greater EPU may provide increased opportunity for managers to use non-GAAP reporting to mislead investors. I document a significantly positive association, on average, …

The Role Of Socioemotional Wealth In Entrepreneurial Persistence Decisions For Family Businesses, Dalong Ma, E. Shaunn Mattingly, Trayan N. Kushev, Manju K. Ahuja, Andrew S. Manikas

Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

Many factors may influence entrepreneurial persistence in various contexts. For example, scholars find that family business entrepreneurs are more persistent than other entrepreneurs. However, the reasons why they are more persistent are not as well known. Utilizing a conjoint experiment with 64 entrepreneurs and 376 decisions, this paper examines the influence of socioemotional wealth (SEW) on persistence decisions in a family business context. The results of the Hierarchical Linear Modelling show that the expected financial returns, expected non-financial benefits, expected switching costs, and probability of expected outcomes influence entrepreneurial persistence decisions. Further, family business entrepreneurs with higher levels of SEW …

Prosocial Occupations, Work Autonomy, And The Origins Of The Social Class Pay Gap, Ray Tsai Fang, András Tilcsik Jun 2022

Prosocial Occupations, Work Autonomy, And The Origins Of The Social Class Pay Gap, Ray Tsai Fang, András Tilcsik

Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

Despite decades of research on social mobility and wage disparities, it remains a puzzle why people from lower-class families earn less than people from upper-class families even when similar in education and occupational prestige. Taking a sociocultural perspective on social class, we argue that a key contributor to the class pay gap is that people from upper-class origins tend to work in occupations with greater autonomy, whereas their lower-class counterparts tend to work in occupations that are more prosocial. We further propose that autonomous occupations pay better than prosocial occupations. Across two distinct nationally representative samples in the United States, …
