Ceo Compensation After Harvester Director Departure, Victor Jarosiewicz

I examine the effects of board member departures on CEO compensation using a sample of high growth IPO firms. Agency theory predicts that a reduction in board monitoring by harvester directors (VCs and private equity investors) will result in an increase in CEO pay. I find that departures of the last harvester director on a board result in an immediate and lasting increase in CEO equity compensation, while prior departures by other harvester directors are not significant. The results hold even when controlling for other governance mechanisms such as CEO wealth, CEO turnover, board composition, and external blockholder ownership.

Leading Economic Indicator Reports

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) 1 fell by 0.35% during September of 2018. The decline in the LEI-N, which is designed to predict economic activity six months into the future, suggests that Nebraska economic growth will slow in the coming months. Initial claims for unemployment insurance rose in Nebraska during September, while building permits for single-family and airline passenger counts both declined. Business expectations were a bright spot for the Nebraska economy. Social media is increasingly being used by business-to-business (B2B) firms to engage with their customers as they seek to maintain and grow their relationship with their customers. In my dissertation, I examine what communication objectives B2B firms seek to achieve via social media at different stages of the relationship cycle (exploration, expansion, maturity). I then use a panel of social media experts to evaluate the social media efforts of these firms to determine how well these firms achieve their social media objectives. Stored value cards represent an important and increasingly large portion of many retailers’ revenue streams. While the outstanding balances on such cards represent accounting liabilities, these cards provide a myriad of benefits to the issuing firms (e.g., an upfront collection of cash, increased customer loyalty, and the potential for breakage or non-redemption of the card value). To illustrate the accounting treatment and revenue recognition concepts of gift cards, this exercise uses actual data from an annual report of Starbucks Corporation. Global Impacts of Industrial Farming Collection

Sustainably feeding the next generation is often described as one of the most pressing “grand challenges” facing the 21st century. Generally, scholars propose addressing this problem by increasing agricultural production, investing in technology to boost yields, changing diets, or reducing food waste. In this paper, we explore whether global food production is nutritionally balanced by comparing the diet that nutritionists recommend versus global agricultural production statistics. Results show that the global agricultural system currently overproduces grains, fats, and sugars while production of fruits and vegetables and protein is not sufficient to meet the nutritional needs of the current population. Funding Liquidity Shocks In A Quasi-Experiment: Evidence From The Cds Big Bang, Xinjie Wang, Yangru Wu, Hongjun Yan, Zhaodong Zhong

A major change in trading conventions in April 2009, the so-called “CDS Big Bang,” induces upfront fees for trading North American CDSs. Exploiting this quasi-experiment, we provide evidence that upfront fees have a differential effect on CDS bid-ask spreads across CDS premiums. Furthermore, the funding effect is stronger for CDS contracts on smaller and riskier firms, contracts with longer maturities, and non-centrally-cleared contracts. The effect also becomes stronger after Deutsche Bank exits the CDS market. Finally, we find similar results using European CDSs. Our experimental setting offers new economic insights on the quantification and mechanism of the funding liquidity effect.

Utah must harness the power of education for its residents, as the state’s future economic success and high quality of life rests squarely upon having an educated population. Increasing the number of Utah residents completing a postsecondary certificate or degree is a powerful strategy for maximizing the quality of life in Utah. An educated population increases both the social and economic capital of the state. Cultivating an educated populace requires creating a college-going culture and assuring that both women and men earn postsecondary certificates and degrees to the maximum extent possible.
