An Analysis Of The Impact Of Social Media Marketing On Individuals’ Attitudes And Perceptions At Nova Community College, Nya Gibson
OTS Master's Level Projects & Papers
Social media has become prominent in the 21st century. Companies are persistently looking for ways to utilize this new platform within their marketing strategies to increase business growth. Since social media is a networking and communication platform, it is important for companies to create a voice to humanize the business and maintain foot traffic. Although there are studies on how to use social media marketing within a business, there is minimal corroboration available of how social media marketing activities influence a consumer’s buying behavior. This study investigated the effects of social media on consumer attitudes of social media marketing and …

Mobile Bullying Among Rural South African Students: Examining The Applicability Of Existing Theories, Michael Eddie Kyobe Prof., Lucas Mimbi Dr, Phillimom Nembandona, Sive Mtshazi
Mobile Bullying Among Rural South African Students: Examining The Applicability Of Existing Theories, Michael Eddie Kyobe Prof., Lucas Mimbi Dr, Phillimom Nembandona, Sive Mtshazi
The African Journal of Information Systems
Mobile bullying, which is one form of cyberbullying, is escalating in schools in South Africa. Research can contribute to better understanding of the nature of this aggression, and provide guidance in determining appropriate interventions and administration of justice. However, studies into cyberbullying tend to focus mainly on the urban environment. Rural South Africa involves a large percentage of mobile phone users and experiences in relatively different cultural and social-economic conditions. Lack of research on rural mobile bullying calls into question the applicability of existing theories of crime and cyberbullying to the rural context and their effectiveness in guiding legal and …

Tracing Sources Of Design Uncertainty And Controversy In Web 2.0 Facilitated Collaborative Design Process, Lockias Chitanana Dr, Desmond Wesley Govender Dr
The African Journal of Information Systems
The integration of Internet-based collaborative tools such as Web 2.0 technologies to facilitate the design process has rendered collaborative design a chaotic practice filled with controversy and uncertainty, with the inevitable risk of unintended consequences. The purpose of this study was to trace the sources of design controversy in a Web 2.0 facilitated collaborative design process. The study employed an Actor Network Theory (ANT) methodological framework to explore design controversy in five design teams comprising of 4 to 6 undergraduate engineering students. Data was constituted by following the traces left by the actors, both human and nonhumans, their actions and …

The Role Of The Transaction Assurance, Perceived Cost And The Perceived Innovation In The Decision To Continue Using Mobile Money Services Among Small Business Owners, Edison Wazoel Lubua Dr, Philip Pretorius
The African Journal of Information Systems
The motive of this study is to assess the role of the perceived transaction assurance, perceived transaction cost, and anticipated future innovations to predict the intention to continue using mobile money services. Currently, many models on the intention to continue using the technology are based on frameworks for general technology adoption. This study acknowledges the value of these frameworks, but extended the analysis to include the perceived transaction assurance and the perceived innovation upon testing. Other variables included in the study are as follows: the influence of the customer support, the ease of correcting mistakes, and the comfortability with transaction …

Financing Climate Resilience: Mobilizing Resources And Incentives To Protect Boston From Climate Risks, David L. Levy, Rebecca Herst
Sustainable Solutions Lab
This report explores the challenges of financing climate-resilience investments in the Boston region. As risks from storm surge, sea level rise, and extreme weather increase, there is growing urgency for pre-disaster investments to reduce physical risk, reduce social vulnerability, and increase capacity for emergency response and disaster recovery. However, these investments face significant barriers, including market failures, capital budget constraints, and misaligned incentives. The report identifies a range of funding mechanisms appropriate at different scales, including general obligation bonds, resilience fees, property tax surcharges, stormwater fees, tax increment financing, business improvement districts, and insurance-based funding. It evaluates these mechanisms using …
Family Supportive Supervision Around The Globe, Ellen Ernst Kossek, Heather N. Odle-Dusseau, Leslie B. Hammer
Family Supportive Supervision Around The Globe, Ellen Ernst Kossek, Heather N. Odle-Dusseau, Leslie B. Hammer
Management Faculty Publications
Family-supportive supervision (FSS) refers to the degree to which employees perceive their immediate supervisors as exhibiting attitudes and behaviors that are supportive of their family role demands (Hammer, Kossek, Zimmerman, & Daniels, 2007; Kossek, Pichler, Bodner & Hammer, 2011: Thomas & Ganster, 1995). A growing body of research suggests that leaders' and supervisors' social support of employees' needs to jointly carry out work and family demands is important for general health and job attitudes, such as satisfaction, work-family conflict, commitment, and intention to turn over (Hammer, Kossek, Anger, Bodner, & Zimmerman, 2009; Kossek et al., 2011). Thus, employee perceptions of …

Engineering and Technology Management Student Projects
In all software development processes, the software must evolve in response to its environment or user needs to maintain satisfactory performance. If software doesn’t support change, it gradually becomes useless. With many organizations today, being software-centric organizations, this has huge implications for their business: evolve your software, or risk your software becoming gradually useless, and therefore, your entire business.
Technology Evolution is a highly relevant subject, Intel’s business model for the last 50 years, has been that of Moore’s Law, a hardware centric Technology Evolution model. As a Software Engineer at Intel, our business group faces a similar issue, we …

Dynamic Capabilities Related To Converging Software Markets, Mike Smith
Engineering and Technology Management Student Projects
Methodology for in the software development life cycle has rapidly evolved over the last couple decades. This evolution is related to strategies born in just-in-time manufacturing which reveal themselves through methods such as rapid application development, waterfall development, spiral development, agile development, and DevOps. Coupled with consumer and industry adoption of cloud-based technologies, software releases to consumers can happen minutes after code-commits. This environment breeds highly competitive firms, rapid and frequent new entrants, ever changing resource barriers, and a constant threat of replacement. To mitigate these risks the adoption of dynamic capabilities could improve firm success and assist in ensuring …

Choosing The Best Software For Spec Review: An Analytic Hierarchy Process Approach, Bob Greenlee
Engineering and Technology Management Student Projects
Every manufacturing company is faced with the problem of accurately converting customer requirements into products and deliverables, including a thorough review of customer specifications. Software can help facilitate this tedious and time consuming process, but choosing or designing the best solution is difficult due to conflicting and poorly prioritized criteria.
This paper illustrates the use of an analytic hierarchy process, specifically the hierarchical decision model (HDM) tool developed at Portland State University, to select the best software solution for facilitating customer spec review. In addition to resolving the primary question of which software to use, it shows how the HDM …

Evaluating Theories On Income Polarization In The U.S., Jocelyn Anderson
Political Science Theses and Capstones
This paper examines the relationship between technological change and income polarization within the United States. I examine and discuss the reshaping of the U.S. labor market via skill- biased technological change, possible effects of globalization, as well as institutional policies. My research also explored how aspects of corporate structure norms, and tax avoidance could be causes for increased income polarization related to top tier incomes. Using current literature and data to consider the top causes of an increasingly widening wage gap, one can see that advancements in technology and the changes it has had on the labor market, as well …
