Identifying Techniques For Improving Chinese Guanxi Quality Of Ocean Freight Forwarders In Taiwan, Tsung-Yu Chou Apr 2018

Identifying Techniques For Improving Chinese Guanxi Quality Of Ocean Freight Forwarders In Taiwan, Tsung-Yu Chou

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

In this study, quality function deployment (QFD) and gray relational analysis (GRA) were combined to develop a gray QFD approach to determine the techniques for improving the Chinese guanxi quality (CGQ) of ocean freight forwarders in Taiwan. The first step was to identify the consignors’ needs and technical requirements of improving the CGQ. Then, a relationship matrix was constructed to link technical requirements and consignor’s CGQ needs based on cross-functional expertise. Finally, the grey relational analysis was employed to determine the execution priority of technical requirements. The results revealed that the top five technical requirements to improve the CGQ with …

Efficiency Measures For Vrm Models Dealing With Negative Data In Dea, Shiue-Jen Tung, Guo-Ya Gan, Wen-Li Chyr, Hsuan-Shih Lee Apr 2018

Efficiency Measures For Vrm Models Dealing With Negative Data In Dea, Shiue-Jen Tung, Guo-Ya Gan, Wen-Li Chyr, Hsuan-Shih Lee

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

This paper explores the properties of the efficiency measures of the variant of radial measure (VRM) which is capable of dealing with negative data in DEA. We found that the inputoriented efficiency measure for VRM might be negative and the range of the output-oriented efficiency measure for VRM might be limited to [0.5, 1]. To circumvent these two situations, we propose the new efficiency measures which prevent the inputoriented efficiency from becoming negative and the outputoriented efficiency from being limited to [0.5, 1].

Efficiency Measurement For International Container Ports Of Taiwan And Surrounding Areas By Fuzzy Data Envelopment Analysis, Yu-Jie Wang, Tzeu-Chen Han Apr 2018

Efficiency Measurement For International Container Ports Of Taiwan And Surrounding Areas By Fuzzy Data Envelopment Analysis, Yu-Jie Wang, Tzeu-Chen Han

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

International container ports are critical hubs for global logistics, and high efficiency is a particularly important requirement for managing these ports. International container ports in Taiwan and surrounding areas have to deal with increasingly larger amounts of cargo in recent years. As a result, it has become more difficult to measure these ports’ efficiency. This study offers a new approach for measuring the efficiency of international ports. Twelve international container ports in Taiwan and surrounding areas were chosen as the samples, and their six inputs (application service process, service personnel ability, service personnel attitude, advisory services, harbor rates and stevedoring …

Super-Efficient Or Super-Inefficient? Insights From A Joint Computation Model For Slacks-Based Measure In Dea: A Note, Der-Long Lin, Wen-Li Chyr, Guo-Ya Gan, Hsuan-Shih Lee Apr 2018

Super-Efficient Or Super-Inefficient? Insights From A Joint Computation Model For Slacks-Based Measure In Dea: A Note, Der-Long Lin, Wen-Li Chyr, Guo-Ya Gan, Hsuan-Shih Lee

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

Chen (2013) extended the exiting SBM approaches and developed a joint model (J-SBM) that can (1) simultaneously compute SBM scores for inefficient DMUs and super-efficiency for efficient DMUs, (2) guarantee the reference points generated by the J-SBM are Pareto-efficient, and (3) the J-SBM scores of a DMU are continuous in the input and output space. In this note, we provide a counter example which shows that the reference point generated by the J-SBM might not be Paretoefficient, and the current study has also revised the model (8) proposed by Chen (2013).

Dynamical Study Of A Moored Vessel Using Computer Vision, Andres Figuero, Alvaro Rodriguez, Jose Sande, Enrique Peña, Juan R Rabuñal

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

Wind and wave effects have a major impact on the design of mooring and anchoring systems, whose purpose is to prevent the movement of the cargo and the moored ship while optimizing the operations which have to take place in port. The dynamic behavior of a ship moored in waves has been mathematically described and interactions between ships and environmental loads have been commonly tested for different docks and mooring systems in scale models. However, the behavior of real ships in true mooring conditions has not been properly addressed in scientific literature. This paper proposes a novel computer vision technique …

In a competitive global market place, technology adoption and application in supply chain is becoming increasingly important as companies seek to acquire competitive advantages. Since blockchain’s advent to the global stage of modern disruptive technologies, several questions remain unanswered pertaining to the benefits that blockchain adoption poses to global supply chains. I apply a typology analysis to a corpus of company filings, press releases and industry studies to better understand the reasons for which global supply chains industry wide are adopting blockchain technology and the specific benefits which they seek to exploit through the use of blockchain. I characterize the …

Content Of Qualitative Feedback Provided During Structured, Confidential Reference Checks, Cynthia A. Hedricks, Disha Rupayana, Leigh Puchalski, Chet Robie

Personnel Assessment and Decisions

The present study used text analytics software to examine the unstructured (or qualitative) data provided by job references during confidential, multi-rater reference checks. With respect to both work-related strengths and areas of improvement, job references more frequently provided words or short phrases relating to “soft skills” such as working with others and communication as opposed to “hard skills” such as computer programming or mathematics. While some commonalities across jobs were found to exist, the frequency of identified categories for both work-related strengths and areas of improvement did differ across jobs.

Investigating Three Approaches Of Using Personality To Predict Competency-Based Performance, Blaine Gaddis, Brandon Ferrell Apr 2018

Investigating Three Approaches Of Using Personality To Predict Competency-Based Performance, Blaine Gaddis, Brandon Ferrell

Personnel Assessment and Decisions

Organizations often use competencies to drive human capital initiatives such as recruitment, selection, training, and promotion. To serve such organizations, practitioners now offer various competency-based research solutions incorporating personality assessments to predict these competencies. Each approach begins by mapping competencies from an organization’s model to scientific models backed by synthetic and content validity evidence to align personality dimensions with each competency. This helps determine which personality dimensions drive performance for each competency. In this paper, we compare scale-based profiles, subscale-based algorithms, and scale-based algorithms to investigate the consistency of scores across methods and how effective each method is in predicting …

Personnel Assessment and Decisions

Employers and government leaders have called attention to the need for critical thinking skills in the workforce, while business trends toward evidence-based decision making also highlight the increasing importance of the critical thinking skill set. Although studies have examined the relationship of critical thinking to behaviors or job performance, many have missed a key component: incremental predictive validity of critical thinking beyond cognitive ability. The current study defines critical thinking, presents results from a test development effort in which the conceptual definition was operationalized as a measure of critical analytical thinking skills for government analysts, and presents results of a …

Creating Test Score Bands For Assessments Involving Ratings Using A Generalizability Theory Approach To Reliability Estimation, Charles Scherbaum, Marcus Dickson, Elliott Larson, Brian Bellenger, Kenneth Yusko, Harold Goldstein

Personnel Assessment and Decisions

The selection of a method for estimating the reliability of ratings has considerable implications for the use of assessments in personnel selection. In particular, the accuracy of corrections to validity coefficients for unreliability and test score bands are completely dependent on the correct estimation of the reliability. In this paper, we discuss how generalizability theory can be used to estimate reliability for test score bands with assessments involving ratings. Using selection data from a municipal entity, we demonstrate the use of generalizability theory-based compare the implications of its use in test score banding compared to the traditional approach.
