Every two years groups worldwide participate in the Critical Assessment of Protein Structure Prediction (CASP) experiment to blindly test the strengths and weaknesses of their computational methods. CASP has signifcantly advanced the feld but many hurdles still remain, which may require new ideas and collaborations. In 2012 a web-based efort called WeFold, was initiated to promote collaboration within the CASP community and attract researchers from other felds to contribute new ideas to CASP. Many cull dairy cows enter the marketing system and travel to widely dispersed and specialized slaughter plants, and they may experience multiple handling events (e.g., loading, unloading, mixing), change of ownership among dealers, and feed and water deprivation during transport and at livestock markets. The objectives of this study were to describe the diverse management of cull dairy cows in Canada and establish consensus on ways to achieve improvements. A 2-day expert consultation meeting was convened, involving farmers, veterinarians, regulators, and experts in animal transport, livestock auction, and slaughter. Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans in late August 2005, resulting in damage to much of the city’s sports infrastructure and the temporary departure of both of New Orleans’ major league professional sports teams, the National Football League Saints and the National Basketball Association Hornets. The city spent over $500 million restoring the sports infrastructure in New Orleans, and both teams subsequently returned to the city. In addition, New Orleans has since hosted numerous mega-sporting events including the Super Bowl, NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four, and several college football national championships. We present a solution to the Backus-Smith puzzle that, instead of relying on extreme parameter values or complex modeling assumptions, simply switches the framework from infinitely lived agents to overlapping generations. Young agents face non-diversifiable wage risk that leads to a low degree of risk sharing within each country. Subsequently, international price movements are not sufficient to achieve the high consumption-real exchange rate correlation produced in standard infinitely lived agent DSGE models.

Chapter 1: Credit Default Swaps Pricing Errors and Related Stock Returns

This article investigates the impacts of Credit Default Swaps (CDS) pricing errors on related stock returns. Using a parsimonious CDS valuation model, which produces an above average adjusted R2 of 90%, I find that its pricing errors significantly predict cross-section stock returns. Further investigation reveals that the cross-market return predictability channels via Merton (1974)'s structural prediction and primary dealers' capital risk. This paper provides a novel view of the complex interactions of capital markets and offers insights on the relative market efficiencies.

Entry Timing In Foreign Markets: A Meta-Analytic Review And Critique, Bernadine J. Dykes, Kalin Kolev

In this meta-analytic review, we examine the entry timing-firm performance relationship as it has been studied in international business research. In addition, we present several moderating factors that strengthen or weaken that relationship. We find that early entry bears financial advantages in international markets, but those advantages depend on country of entry and origin, industry context, performance measurement, type of entry and time period. We conclude with a discussion of avenues for future research.
