The purpose of this study was to identify core competencies for supervisory-level security management professionals working in the sports and entertainment industry. Qualified and trained sport and event security-management professionals are essential to support the U.S. homeland security objectives outlined in Presidential Policy Directive-21. Providing effective safety and security for sports and entertainment events requires specialized knowledge and skill on the behalf of security-management practitioners who detect, deter, prevent, and respond to potential risks and threats. Uncertainty can have profound implications on both firms and individuals who hope to optimally make decisions in their best interest. In this research, I seek to examine the impact that economic policy uncertainty has on domestic and foreign stock. In particular, I take a market microstructure perspective focused on stock liquidity and volatility measures in response to changes in economic policy uncertainty. Understanding the directional flow of economic policy uncertainty and the magnitude of the consequences at home and abroad can both help prepare agents to make good decisions about the future and exhort policy makers to be more efficient …

Business Volatility And Employee Performance, Wen-Chyuan Chiang, Li Sun, Brian Walkup

This study examines the impact of business volatility on employee performance. We posit that employees work harder in a more volatile business environment as prior research links business volatility to increased use of performance-based compensation systems, which may result in better employee performance. Our results suggest that business volatility has a significant and positive impact on employee performance. Furthermore, we find that the relationship between business volatility and employee performance is stronger for larger firms and firms with higher labor intensity.

Any risk-return tradeoff analysis in aggregate equity markets relies on appropriate measures of risk, in most studies based on (co-)variance relations. Consequently, in integrated global markets, country-specific expected return is priced with a world price of covariance risk. This study relates domestic excess stock returns to the world downside risk. Evidence shows that downside tail risk (as a multiplier of volatility) has long memory cointegration properties; hence, the underlying risk aversion behavior in an integrated market is associated with the conditional quantile ratio, the correlation of stock returns, and the cointegrating coefficient of downside risk. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore strategies small business owners used to maintain financial capital to ensure survivability for longer than 5 years. The sample included 3 successful service-related small business owners located in the southeastern United States. Systems theory and the theory of entrepreneurship provided the conceptual framework for the study. To date, few empirical studies have confirmed the long-accepted notion that politically skilled individuals discriminately and strategically employ or avoid particular political behaviors in the workplace. The purpose of this multi-study investigation is to evaluate political skill and political will as antecedents of configurational impression management strategies. The configurations of impression management tactics found by Bolino and Turnley (2003) are confirmed using hierarchical and K-means cluster analysis, and discriminant analysis is employed to demonstrate the effects of political skill and political will in the prediction of impression management configurations. Almost one in three brands sold to adults and more than five in six brands sold to children use some form of anthropomorphic representation in promoting their products. Marketers probably hold an inherent belief that anthropomorphism increases consumer preference for their products. Extant research, however, offers no clear evidence to support this. Boundary theory (Ashforth et al., 2000, Clark, 2000; Nippert-Eng, 1996) discusses how individuals build, keep, arrange, and cross the boundaries around work and family domains. However, the process through which people manage boundaries in work and home domains is not well-understood. In this study, I focused on boundary permeability as the key factor that explains how boundaries differ on the integration-segmentation continuum and investigated how people manage the boundaries of home and work domains. Over three essays this project reviews social conditioning and the influence on consumer decision-making. Essay one analyzes health associations between fruit and average daily caloric intake. The relative impact is greater for food possessing unique lay belief associations. Essay two investigates ethical leadership in a social media context. The study primes hypocritical leadership and the impact on consumer perceptions of a company. Essay three studies outcomes to a CEO’s response addressing damaging social media information about a company. Moderators dampen the effect of perceived unethical leadership. Implications on marketing policies are discussed.

Her project UPSTATE, is a series of urban and rural landscapes photographed in and around Hudson, New York. Daylight Books will publish the monograph to coincide with Stauffer’s exhibition at the Reece Museum in October 2018.
