A Continuous Review Inventory System With Lost Sales And Emergency Orders, Michael Haughton, K.P. Sapna Isotupa
A Continuous Review Inventory System With Lost Sales And Emergency Orders, Michael Haughton, K.P. Sapna Isotupa
Business Faculty Publications
We analyze a continuous review lost sales inventory system with two types of orders—regular and emergency. The regular order has a stochastic lead time and is placed with the cheapest acceptable supplier. The emergency order has a deterministic lead time is placed with a local supplier who has a higher price. The emergency order is not always filled since the supplier may not have the ability to provide the order on an emergency basis at all times. This emergency order has a higher cost per item and has a known probability of being filled. The total costs for this system …

Intercultural Coworker Relationships (Icors) In The Global Workplace: A Grounded Theory Study, Jennifer L. Morton
Intercultural Coworker Relationships (Icors) In The Global Workplace: A Grounded Theory Study, Jennifer L. Morton
Dissertations
Previous research supports what employees intuitively sense: peers make the place (Chiaburu & Harrison, 2008; Schneider, 1987). Extant research suggests coworker relationships have critical influence on outcomes ranging from turnover (Felps, Mitchell, Hekman, Lee, Holtom, & Harman, 2009) to creativity (Homan, Buengeler, Eckhoff, van Ginkel, & Voelpel, 2015) to organizational commitment (Viswesvaran & Ones, 2002) to employee health and well-being (Heaphy & Dutton, 2008). Despite the increase of Intercultural COworker Relationships (ICORs), particularly in multinational firms in the technology industry, research has yet to examine what defines coworker relationship quality in the presence of national cultural differences. In other words, …

Exploring Consumer Collecting Behavior: A Conceptual Model And Research Agenda, Brian I. Spaid
Marketing Faculty Research and Publications
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the behaviors that revolve around collecting, the motivations behind these behaviors and the psychological benefits collectors receive from engaging in these collecting behaviors.
Design/methodology/approach
A thorough literature review and integration of prominent psychological and social psychology theories are used to propose a conceptual model, several research propositions and potential research questions for future scholarship.
Findings
This paper proposes that a collector salient identity and collecting motives drive tension-inducing social and solitary collecting behaviors and that these behaviors in turn reinforce the collector salient identity. Relevant aspects of the collecting phenomenon are …

The Roles Of Extraordinary Beliefs In Consumption Rituals, Cele C. Otnes, Linda Tuncay Zayer, Robert Alfonso Arias, Arun Sreekumar
The Roles Of Extraordinary Beliefs In Consumption Rituals, Cele C. Otnes, Linda Tuncay Zayer, Robert Alfonso Arias, Arun Sreekumar
School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works
People often ascribe to extraordinary beliefs (EBs), or those that laws of science cannot explain, or those that may even contradict science. Both the foundational literature in anthropology and recent work in consumer behavior affirm the assumption that rituals—structured, repeated, symbolic, and expressive activities—might be one context where extraordinary beliefs shape consumer experiences. To date, however, little understanding exists regarding the types of EBs that emerge in consumption-ritual contexts, and how they influence ritual participation. We examine over 30 years of articles in top-tier journals to address two questions: (1) Which EBs emerge as salient to consumer rituals? (2) How …

Entrepreneurship Education’S Impact On Entrepreneurial Intention: A Predictive Regression Model Of Chinese University Students, Brian A. Lavelle
Entrepreneurship Education’S Impact On Entrepreneurial Intention: A Predictive Regression Model Of Chinese University Students, Brian A. Lavelle
Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)
“Entrepreneurship education’s impact on entrepreneurial intention: A predictive regression model of Chinese university students” is a dissertation study by Brian A. Lavelle, doctoral candidate at George Fox University. The study investigates the impact of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intention using quantitative methods and survey data from China. The study uses Ajzen’s (1991) Theory of Planned Behavior and the Entrepreneurial Intention Questionnaire (Linan & Chen, 2009) to investigate the impact between personal attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intention. The data was collected from eleven college and university programs in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, in the People’s …

Decentralized Planning For Non-Dedicated Agent Teams With Submodular Rewards In Uncertain Environments, Pritee Agrawal, Pradeep Varakantham, William Yeoh
Decentralized Planning For Non-Dedicated Agent Teams With Submodular Rewards In Uncertain Environments, Pritee Agrawal, Pradeep Varakantham, William Yeoh
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Decentralized planning under uncertainty foragent teams is a problem of interest in manydomains including (but not limited to) disaster rescue, sensor networks and security patrolling. Decentralized MDPs, Dec-MDPs havetraditionally been used to represent such decentralized planning under uncertainty problems. However, in many domains, agents may notbe dedicated to the team for the entire timehorizon. For instance, due to limited availability of resources, it is quite common for policepersonnel leaving patrolling teams to attend toaccidents. Such non-dedication can arise dueto the emergence of higher priority tasks ordamage to existing agents. However, there isvery limited literature dealing with handlingof non-dedication in decentralized settings. …

An Exploration Of The Gaps Between Theory And Practice In Fashion Retail Segmentation: A Developmental Paper., Amanda Ratcliffe
An Exploration Of The Gaps Between Theory And Practice In Fashion Retail Segmentation: A Developmental Paper., Amanda Ratcliffe
Conference proceedings
This developmental paper reviews the literature on market segmentation in the context of the fashion retail sector with specific regard to the mature female consumer of fashion. The paper identifies two gaps between the academic theory and marketing practice: The first gap relates to the prevalence of developing complex, statistical models of segmentation in the literature, while there is a paucity of guidelines for practitioners to implement segmentation projects in practice.
The second gap exists in relation to the segmentation and targeting practices of fashion retailers who are still practising an “only youth = fashion” approach (Jackson and Shaw, 2009). …
Childcare: What Utahns Need To Know, Robbyn T. Scribner, Susan R. Madsen
Childcare: What Utahns Need To Know, Robbyn T. Scribner, Susan R. Madsen
Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications
Childcare is an important consideration for millions of American families; 71% of all women with children under 18 are in the labor force, comprising one-third of the total female workforce in the U. S. Further, childcare costs are becoming increasingly burdensome; in the U.S. generally, and in 33 states specifically (including Utah), the annual cost of childcare is higher than the cost of in-state tuition at a four-year public college. Although childcare is a family and community issue, women often bear the primary responsibility for managing childcare, and, in the case of female heads of household, women may carry both …
